What should our Dev Admin be Doing?
Yes, its well expected from me I know, but I personally think DC dropped the ball on this one. Yes the card game is fun, but now he is stalling the Card Committee on any action they want to take from our feed back because DC isn't acting or isn't logging on. To me that's neglect, and I feel again he still does not care about the players like he said he did. The game needs changing, and because he isn't doing his job the way it should be done, game still has major problems. And I realize he has a team to help him with this, but its his job to lead them, give them deadlines, make sure work is being put out in a reasonable amount of time.
So on to the topic, what should our Dev admin be doing? Well for one, he should be on more, just because he released a card game, does not mean he gets to take a vacation smack at the beginning of it. He should be pumping out other content for everyone to do, because now the server is actually a baron wasteland due to the game. So.. -Making more use of overworld map (without using eggs please) -Quests...Quests...Quests! Classic still has no basis without its quests. -If you release something, make sure all the kinks are worked out before you start neglecting it, ALL the kinks. -Don't lie to the players, don't ask for their suggestions and then just go ahead and do your own ideas. -Don't give players false hope. (Every admin, including DC has now done that) -Make it an actual game, Classic has just been a chat room for so long, find a way to move from that point, you said you had ways of doing it, but they are yet to be seen DC. I feel though, most importantly, were the quests, no matter how much DC wants to disagree just because its not his idea, we need em, they'll keep us living. GRAAL IPHONE HAS EM! LOL |
He is planning stuff with the card game
There are quests being developed. Plus the card committee is just gladius LOL with the person who can't do much.. |
give him a break, he just finished the Card Game and he has alot of future projects, he told me personally. I'm even working on making an article towards him.

Talk...
talk.... talk.... I asked what our dev admin should be doing? I only pointed out DCs flaws. Yes, quests are being developed, i've heard that before. And I don't think you understand the point of a committee then mystic or whoever else is going to stubbornly disagree with me. Its there to make quick changes based on feedback, they should be able to meet everyday, they should be logging on everyday, and you know what, Night and Glad and DC were all able to be on the same time everyday for a while, now its just Night and Glad, what happened to DC? I don't accept promises from him anymore, clearly he got everyone's hopes up for something fast, and it isn't going to be fast, it may not even happen so again, don't be dense just because you like him. Back to the topic of quests, again, a lot of classic development has always just been talk, what makes this any different mystic? Because you have seen them? Ya i've seen a million quests that were developed but never released. |

I never understood the point of the card committee anyways. If you don't know that changes are happening/going to happen with the card game, you shouldn't really diss the people who spent hard time on it.
You also can't simply expect quests instantly after a new dev admin has came in. |

Mystic...you are really being dense now. You think after 4 years of garbage i would expect DC to automatically come out with new quests? No but I did expect him to do something..more, after all , he talked a lot, hyped himself up and all that.
And you think I don't know what changes to the card game are being done? Just because I'm not staff doesn't mean its hard to find out. But like i said, there are changes needed now, and thats the point of the committee. Two members are ready to go, one is not. That is DC. And you know why I tell you that I think quests will take way to long to come out? Because DC has said himself that quests are not important to the server, he does not think so, I do though, others do, but like i said, DC lied about being admin for the players, hes just like everyone else, hes playing for himself, going to mold classic into what he thinks it should be, and its going to continue to be a chat room. He said there would be quick progress, i do not see any. I see a card game, that completely stopped everything else on the server. Only people on tags now ARE FAQs. Hardly any hosting, the development staff are playing the card game more than they are working, well it looks that why, they'll say otherwise obviously. Don't you GCs say otherwise though, cause your boss is saying otherwise :). And mystic you said to me that because you are leveling on one quest, that means its gonna come out.....really? How many of us here have leveled on a quest before, come on raise your hands. How many of those came out? All im saying is that now, its too late just talk and make promises, they better start giving some content soon, card game wont cut it forever, especially if DC feels he doesn't have to fulfill his duty as a member of the committee. |

An admin hasn't done that in years, which is why we have crap. Administrating involves giving orders, setting deadlines, all that good stuff, which no admin has done in years, sure would help though. But they fear if they do that, the babies they call their staff will pick up and leave because they do not like being bossed around. Main argument for that is "well they don't get paid" Who gives a flying **** if they do or not, they signed on to work, they should work. Developing, well yes hes done a little of that, not as much as he said he was going to do, but sure why not ill give him that, his team does that to, notice the Development staff tag. |
Great minds think alike. I almost posted a topic similar to this one.
The card game does not appeal to me. It was boring to me in other games that had the same setup. I'd much prefer quests. I personally want to know what's next. As it stands now you could kill the entire server except for the Card House and we'd have what Classic is now. Everyone's focused on the Card House but not the fact the rest of the server is still dead. |

@Tatsumi: Just calm down lol. DC is doing stuff, despite him having a life outside of graal, ya know. |

That's what the point of Development is. Yes, once a quest is done and the end reward is received that quest is dead, so there need to be constant updates. Constant new content. I do not see a problem with expecting that. I would almost say it's required at this point. Classic has nothing to offer people in terms of bettering their character. We need to release some quests and fast. There's some potential for it, but it's all moving at the same snails pace it's been moving at for awhile. Quote:

i personally dislike the card game because of DC letting people like squirt bring noob from other servers just to lame them and boost his deck.
i suggested to sell points for gralat(after a good gralat reset) for 4000 each, that way people will play and gralat will finally have a use. but knowing DC DC:"NO DONT TOUCH MY CARD GAMEZ ITZ MINEZ" |
Ok theres a lot of stuff going on here and I'll throw in my thoughts.
The card committee was established the day the cards got released; night pmed me and said "we voted you into the committee," or something to that effect. Basically, rather than 1 person running the show and having to do everything (presumably DC,) we would have three people to discuss things and get it done. I cover public relations (such as getting ideas,) night covers GFX and card development (planning to have 'card making' competitions in the future,) and DC obviously covers stuff with the scripts. We've talked about some of the issues about the card game (like squirt "farming" noobs,) and we're split right now on how to handle it. Other technical issues (such as manager dropping the card to the left rather than the highlighted card) will need to be looked at closer. Trading areas/rooms is a future project we need to address as well. The idea of a "deck rating" limit is something we shall look at too. When will we look at all these issues? Whenever we can. It's true that DC hasn't been on much this last week, so its been hard to get stuff accomplished (since he can controls most of this stuff.) But rest assured, from the card development standpoint, we're going to keep working to give you the best finished product we can, then add more to it over time. I can't speak of the rest of the dev team and whatever projects they might be working on, but I have seen a bunch of people on tag this past week. Will something come out of it? Only time will tell. |
I agree that the card game could have been and could be much better,
the fact that it's easy to gain points off weak/inexperienced opposition and that there's no proper rating system is probably the biggest concern, I also think it would have been fairer if the starter deck was the same for everybody with just the boosters being randomised, but despite these 2 opinions among other small issues the Card Game is still the best content on the server, it's fun, competitive, something that can be played multiple times, it's provided a reason for new players to log on and for regulars to stay on, you can't really criticise it, yes it is a concern that the overworld is now a wasteland but atleast players are on the server and have something to do while more stuff is worked on. If changes such as the ones mentioned were to be made to the Card Game, I think that a reset would be neccessary in order for it to achieve its full potential, without naming anyone changing the points system without a reset would only further uneven the playing field in favour of those who have gained points improperly, but such a thing could annoy people to such an extent that they no longer bother, even more especially with those that have gained points fairly through good play against even opposition. The suggestions aren't exactly being ignored either, the fact that DC hasn't been on as much doesn't mean he's using this as an excuse to take a break, and with him not being on so much he hasn't exactly a full opportunity to have implemented suggested changes, it's very much a one man rather than team project on the side of scripting and I haven't even got to discussing it with him yet so it would be wrong of me to attempt any significant changes myself, one thing i might attempt in future is an AI card battle system with different difficulties. As far as Quests go, they are ultimately what made the server what it was, and is supposed to be, they're probably the best noob hook but for all of their flaws I can agree that they're not important "for the time being". Back in the day Quests were able to be made offline using built in resources, not only were they easier to make but there were alot more players capable of making them, for all the time and effort required to go into them now in order to make them decent (as in not 5 minute long push/pull block mazes for the sake of a release) they are playable one time only and it's just not a viable method of sustaining or improving on playercount, unless maybe a series of Quests could be released all together and on a regular basis. Having said that, we do have some resources/classes that are either new or custom versions of now depreciated built in functions that we did not have one year ago which could be useful towards Developing new quests when necessary. |
As far as I'm concerned, at least DC has had a release since he's started.

I think you guys should chill..
You KNOW DC's working on a quest. I don't know much about it myself but I've seen Mystic and PKT put quite a bit of time into it. The overworld project that's been rumored is currently scrapped because of internal problems.. Something else DC (I say DC since he's the Dev Admin) was working on. The card game IS the main concern but as you all know, it's not easy to fix a system that is already built. One "fix" will lead to another "problem". We need to first look at the issue from all sides to make sure we take the most efficient route in making the card game more... sensible.. Otherwise we'll continuously have more problems with the game. |

I'd place my money of those mentioned being done by then too. |

We talked about the idea of a reset and Night wasn't too fond of it. He stated how it would negatively effect the mindset of the populace, seeing as how everything they did the last week was a waste, and that if we could do it once, we could do it again and thus there'd be no guarantee that they weren't wasting their time. Or at least something to that effect. I too thought a reset would be necessary if we added a "deck rating limit," as night suggested, but we'll see what happens. We need to get a rating system up first before any reset should even be considered.
Plus I wanted a better way for boosters to work, like they do in other card games (you get X amount of random commons, Y amount of random uncommons, and 1 random rare). The exact details would have to be worked out, but at least this way everyone was guaranteed something good when they bought a booster, rather than lucky people having uber cards and unlucky people having **** cards, creating massive disparity. Besides, the game wasn't meant to be played with all lvl 0 cards. The real strategy came (at least when I was testing with a bunch of cards from all levels,) from trying to balance your deck in building, then making the right move based on your MP and/or your opponents MP. I'm tired of all this level zero bull****. BRING ME GOOD CARDS!!!! |
I don't really think this deck rating will solve any problems. I HONESTLY don't care about my win to lose ratio, therefore, instead of me beating newish players, I will let them beat me and maybe make a compromise with them in trying to give me some points out of the deal as well.
At least that is what I would HONESTLY do, since I doubt if a deck rating system is implemented I would be able to get points otherwise. I mean, yes, I try to battle people, however, it seems to me only a limited percentage of the server will even play me. |

Card game is good. There has to be changes with the way people are gaining points/boosters, but it's fun and enjoyable. And a Card Reset would be BAD. Despite knowing the flaws this game has, resetting cards would just make everyone leave. I actually enjoyed cards much better while me and Gladius used to test it. It was more competitive as we both tried to organize our decks into the best possible combination. |
Plus the cards were cooler (no offense to the mou cow.)

DC is working on exams and work so isnt on this much this week.
As far as Dev goes, I'm trying to assemble the dev team into more of a team and less of a one man show, a lot of my time has gone into working with the structure of the dev team and building off that. If you want to look for the next thing to look forward to, it would probably be bowling upgrades. As far as cards, a deck rating system yes but as far as the card manage bugs go, I will probably end up having to rebuild that thing |
Quote:
The fact is squirt, you and a select few have a lot of good cards. Everyone else either hasn't gotten a booster yet, or, for the ones that did, didn't get any good cards from their boosters. Your deck is so much better than ours that playing you is rather pointless unless you brought your deck down to our level. The theory behind the deck rating system (remember that no actual formula has been made yet,) is that if you have X many leveled cards, you won't be able to play people with less than X many leveled cards; you would only be able to play people with X many leveled cards or higher, since it should be a fair-ish matchup. There's a difference between challenging people you're better than and challenging people who's deck is worse than yours. If decks are evenish, anyone has a fairly decent chance to win. If decks are uneven, one person is definately likely to win, even if I'm a better than that person at the game. Thats what people don't like about the game right now. People who aren't necessarily that much better than them have the ability to wtfpwn them simply because their decks are better. |
Honestly I think the game is perfect if you remain at lv0 play, I got some lv2s from a booster myself but I really don't like using them to beat people with only lv0s, it feels too much like "my deck outclasses yours" and not that I'm a skilled player or deck builder.
Lv0 play is nice, but things get unbalanced later in the road, and it takes alot of time to get boosters so if you have lv0s only, you're gunna be there for a minute, if you have good cards expect to be in the throne for awhile before anyone catches up. |
Well said clel.
PS: **** you and your getting lvl 2s from a booster >:O |

Anyone here suggest bowling upgrades? *skims* Nope, I don't see that anywhere...so..NOTHING to look forward to then you mean. |
Actually when Bowling came out, there have been a few suggestive complaints that are now being worked on I believe.
|
And my point was...we do not need bowling upgrades.
Mystic i can get that you really want classic to work out and become great again, but its never going to happen, fact is fact. If you want to at least try for it, you better get them to start focusing on the content classic needs to actually deserve being called an good server again. Bowling upgrades for one, will not accomplish that. |
Don't lose hope Tatsumi, updates are coming :). You just wait and see.
