So I'm working on an overworld...

For fun -- just to pass time.

There's not much done right now, but it's getting there slowly. As you can see, I'm adding on as I go... I ended up sketching up a rough outline as to what I'm doing so I at least have some direction. I didn't generate first or anything.

I'll post updates as I get there :)

Its an evil wizard upside down.

MysticX2X 08-27-2008 05:45 AM

Looks like a man with a long beard actually.

WanDaMan 08-27-2008 08:54 AM

Wow, really nice design. Very impressive!!

Spark910 08-27-2008 11:41 AM

I need to do this, haven't made a level in a long time :)

Looks nice so far!

Crono 08-27-2008 12:58 PM

Why you little LAT!

Vima 08-27-2008 01:54 PM

Looks like italy, but the wrong way. ;o

It's coming along slowly but surely :)

BTW, it is an odd layout... but I thought it'd be cool to try something a little different than the usual bulky, 'round' overworlds.

cbk1994 08-28-2008 05:57 AM

I like it. How are you generating the maps?

DustyPorViva 08-28-2008 06:16 AM

m + level editor?

If you don't mean that... I generated a blank(all water) gmap, then started filling it in. Very early on I found myself having no idea where to take it so I opened the map image in paint and scribbled a rough outline to follow. Because I already started the northern area with the beach, I followed that direction(which formed the crescent shape). It was completely random on my part.

Yes, I meant the large map image. I wasn't sure if you had a different way of generating them.

DustyPorViva 08-28-2008 06:57 AM

Nah, just the traditional pressing "M" while in editing mode.

Very nice indeed.

farte6 08-30-2008 01:18 AM

I have no clue what your doing with those cliffs but I'm interested to find out. You certainly did not do what I would have done with them.

Switch 08-30-2008 01:24 AM

I love your good use of cliffs :D

Crono1508 08-30-2008 04:14 AM

Dusty you're pretty amazing.
Does anybody call you utility man? If not, I will.

Thanks for the compliments :) I'm having a lot of fun with the cliffs, except for the minor setbacks like misalignment and all(which usually end up with me having to redo a chunk of them.

I'm off to bed, so I guess I'll post what I've got for the night.

WanDaMan 08-30-2008 08:12 AM

Absolutely fantastic. Love it! =D

Well I haven't had much time to work on it, but I put a little time into it last night.

DuBsTeRmAn 09-04-2008 05:18 PM

Are you kidding me? It looks fantastic!
Im sure that alot of people would love to use this for their classic server. It would be a great gmap!

maximus_asinus 09-04-2008 05:27 PM

To much mountain. And what happened to that other island?!

DustyPorViva 09-04-2008 05:28 PM

It's still gonna be there :)

DuBsTeRmAn 09-04-2008 05:51 PM

So Dusty.. How can u be such a good GFX but i never see u as staff on a server?

DustyPorViva 09-04-2008 05:52 PM

I've worked on a lot of servers in the past. It's just not something I have the time or effort for anymore... nor, honestly, the interest.

DuBsTeRmAn 09-04-2008 05:58 PM

Aha, That explains everything :)

WanDaMan 09-04-2008 09:32 PM

Hahaha, lovely update! :D Look's great!1
