Lightsaber

Why? I was trying to figure out why Graal Ghetto had them, but now I know.

xXziroXx 08-20-2008 12:39 AM

Maloria had them too, staff weapon though. Think only Phantom and Smirt had them :p

Frankie 08-20-2008 03:18 AM

It's an event item.
It costs I think somewhere around 300 ec.

Only 1 is on the server. We decided to never stock them again because they are too powerful ;o There might be 2, I'm not sure.

They should be nerfed in my opinion. They're like 3 hits and you're dead.

Damage of that thing depends on your strength level.

That's a cool idea, but it did 40 damage when I was hit with it. So, it should be nerfed in my opinion. Maybe cap it at 25 or something, and make it wound.

knightfire35 08-20-2008 03:57 AM

Yeah i remember those.

warp2ukew 08-20-2008 08:00 AM

I believe there are only 2 on Era, and those two belong to Sales and Bosh, though you can often find Rainbow using Bosh's.

I'm pretty goddamn sure that Rainbow bought Sales' saber when he still had one. Unsure if Sales has one again. Also, yea, I somewhat agree on a nerf.

Rainbow was the first person to have one and he has had one for a longgg time. So I think that there are 2.

no.
because the first guy that got it worked his ass off to get level 8 strength or whatever. nerfing it would be a really **** move towards him.

and the range on it is really not that good either.

Crono 08-20-2008 04:25 PM

lollin, top level on the treadmill + lightsaber = gl

Understood 08-20-2008 07:00 PM

I sold my first one to Rainbow and then bought another one later on. It's been nerfed like 3 times, so what you're looking at is a blessing to what it could've been.

I used to do 50 damage with level 8 strength, but the first nerf capped the damage at 40. It's range used to also be a lot better.

It's a melee weapon, it's not like I can throw it at you. if you're smart you'll just stay away from me.

So if we work our ass off to get level 8 strength do we get it too?

You're making one person mad, and making many other people happy.

That's like releasing a one-hit-kill gun, selling it for 500k (or whatever is a lot anymore on Era), and then refusing to nerf it because people worked their assess off to get it.

DustyPorViva 08-20-2008 11:40 PM

Nerfs usually **** on everyone who had the item, no matter how hard they worked for it. Doesn't mean nothing should ever be nerfed.

Codein 08-20-2008 11:55 PM

Some times you have to put certain players aside and think for the better of the server.

Then I don't see how it would be a **** move towards him if no one else is able to get it.

Understood 08-21-2008 12:15 AM

Did you all completely ignore my post? It has been nerfed a few times, and if you think it's still overpowered it's because you're either an idiot or you're lacking in the skill department.

Either way, it's two of a kind, and it's really hard to get, you can't expect it to suck.

Which is exactly why it shouldn't be so far ahead of everything else.

Like on GK, expensive weapons such as Inferno Daggers, Darkflame Swords, etc aren't that much better than a much cheaper, similar weapon.

The lightsaber should just be made to wound, and weakened to a max of maybe 20-25 damage, maybe 30.

Currently Era is pretty much divided into two groups - the rich, and the poor. The poor are so far behind the rich, they don't stand a chance. Expensive weapons with high damages, fast reloads, fast shooting, etc are far, far better than cheap weapons.

In my opinion it's better to have decent weapons, and base all weapons around these. No weapon should be so much more overpowered than another weapon (e.g. gang guns shouldn't be much better than an AK47).

Agreed.

Personally, I don't really think that things should entirely be "rare", just limited in number, but not so limited that they're considered to be 50x the price of something similar, but more numerous - IE: If there's to be 'rare' items - make them 5 of a kind. 5 people have them, rather than 1 person, who could normally sell for an outrageous price since no one else is in competition with them in getting a fairer price for it, or two people for that matter. 5 people with these such items kills the extreme value of it, while it is still limited in number than something similar to it and is excessive in number.

To be honest I didn't even know a lightsaber existed on Era, but how much damagedo you do per slash?

Sure can, really.

DustyPorViva 08-21-2008 06:09 AM

Rarity > efficiency

A rare item makes its worth by being rare, not by being uber powerful.

CharlieM 08-21-2008 06:10 AM

yeah I mean is a rare watch or bag super powerful? no but because not many people have it it makes you feel like you have a symbol of power, rare=symbolic in my mind anyways

TSAdmin 08-21-2008 06:25 AM

Rare is a matter of playercount. Let's say 30 Rare watches were released throughout the country. That's pretty rare considering the amount of people within that country.

It seems lucky for any of the Classic worlds to hit over 100 on a regular basis, so if 5 people had an item, it's still rare. The difference is that it's just avioding a single person gaining so much for the "rare" item if more than one or two people have that type of item.

In theory.

But nobody is going to pay a lot of money for something when they could buy something cheaper that is just as good, unless it has some form or function that makes it worth the extra cost.
In real life people buy things for aestheic purposes (form) (eg. expensive clothes, sports cars), but that doesn't fit well into graal because in graal you don't need to worry about attracting a mate and reproducing, etc. (which is the function these things provide) so form doesn't matter as much on graal, which only leaves function.

/convoluted response

The light sabre probably doesn't need to be as strong as it is, but I bet if you made a gun that completely sucked nobody would use it no matter how rare it was.

I would use a bad gun, even if it was rare.

lordbosh 08-21-2008 03:24 PM

I can beat rainbow using the lightsaber without much effort most of the time. The lightsaber is only good in some very limited scenarios. And getting good with a lightsaber requires many hours of practice. I picked up the thing without having much experience and had a really hard time using it. I may have taken one person down out of the 10 deaths I recieved.

The fact that some of you have attempted to make the arguement that staff need to nerf it to satisfy the needs of a larger group of people tells me that you know nothing about proper server administration. It is their responsibility is to ensure the server runs smoothly and efficiently, not so that you can ensure advantages over other players just because you don't know how to fight them. ERA has had enough favoritism over the years, and it ultimately leads to the server having major problems and players crying for resets.

Look at GK, how many things were completely nerfed and/or turned off simply because alot of players started to complain to stefan? That server was really fun a while ago, and flaming aura was actually a useful spell that allowed even new players to fight others in pvp. You don't see that much anymore, and hardly anyone pks. Did everyone get what they wanted? Sure, and those people don't play anymore. So whats the point of it?

The majority does not always know what the best choice is. And in the example of ERA, it rarely knows anything more than the value of a random gun, or how to complain and brag.

Yes they would.

If I were to go on Era, make ONE single gun that no one else has, give it the stats of the Uzi, I could probably sell it off pretty high.

I mean, hats on G2k1 were the main thing. HATS. People would pay thousands of gralats to have a hat that no one else had. Why? Because no one else has it.

CharlieM 08-21-2008 07:41 PM

even if it had crappy stats or no stats, players would buy a rare item. Why? because its a symbol of being part of the Upper Crust of era if you will.

People do. Go look at Graal Kingdoms.

It's still a symbol. People want to be rich, and they want to show off that they're rich. I never said make the lightsaber bad (e.g. a suck-ish gun), I just said nerf it a bit. It should probably do around what a fireman's axe does.

Baszle 08-21-2008 10:36 PM

Lightsabre is still a 4 hit death I think. Still needs a nerf.

With the right amount of strength, yes.

Understood 08-21-2008 11:22 PM

The thing is, if anyone else picked up a light sabre they would be complaining for a buff, not a nerf.

If you didn't put hours and hours in to leveling strength, you'd only do 10 damage.

If you didn't put months in to practicing using a melee weapon on a GUN server, you'd get owned 24/7.

Nerfing the Light Sabre would be more or less nerfing -me- because the only reason you think it's so good is because I've taken the time to master it...as ****y as it sounds, it's true...I've let people use it and they say it sucks.

oh, and Rainbow**

It's great that it takes skill to use. That doesn't mean it should be so overpowered, though.

Frankie 08-21-2008 11:24 PM

it's not overpowered if you don't have the skill to use it though, right?

Nope. But, it is overpowered when you have the skill.
