Video Rules

What are the rules for posting youtube videos on the forum? Where can we post them and do they need to be only graal related videos?

Graal related videos go here: http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...play.php?f=197

Non-graal related go in the Lounge, as long as they conform to the forum rules, and are appropriate
This is the biggest purpose for the Lounge (non-graal links).

But then you have to be 14 to post or view any kind of video not related to Graal.

That's because we post so much porn and tips on running successful dog fighting leagues there that your small mind wouldn't be able to comprehend it and would explode upon reading the thread title.

You're a minor, you should just shut up and listen to us adults, we always know what's best for you. K? :oo:

Yes, because so far adults have always done everything right.

I hope you don't seriously think that.

DustyPorViva 06-10-2008 01:45 AM

I don't understand why videos have to be treated like links :/
There is obviously no risk of viruses and stolen password from them(which is a big point the mods like to make here). I agree, they should adhere to the forum rules on language and content... but that's it.

Admins 06-12-2008 08:56 PM

Well people were already abusing it to say stuff they wouldn't be allowed to write. Why would you need to display videos in other sub-forums?

DustyPorViva 06-12-2008 09:08 PM

Perhaps to show a preview of their server in the playerworld section... or perhaps to post a youtube video of a band in the NGR(this shouldn't need to be in the lounge if there's no rule breaking in the video)... or perhaps to show a bug in the bug section.

If people are using videos to show content that's not allowed, simply delete the post just like they were writing it out in the post. There's no need to simply disallow it at all :/ This whole 'instead of moderating, just rule it a ban' is a ridiculous, and lazy approach to moderation. If it's too much work for the two global moderators to actually moderate posts, hire more.

They can always be approved. I dont see the problem, other than a minor inconvenience

DustyPorViva 06-12-2008 09:42 PM

Last time I had something approved I got told to post it in the lounge anyways. The problem is it's stupid... they should expect their moderators to mod, not to make rules just to avoid what could possibly, if someone ever wants to, be a bad situation(which can still happen!). The problem is the forums feel like a prison instead of the community... I guess that's what we all want though! woooo :/

then the video belonged in the lounge. Exceptions could be made with approval for helpful videos in certain forums, and videos of playerworlds, such as in a thread where someone is showing progress on their playerworld, otherwise, graal related videos can go in the video forum, and non graal related can go in the lounge.

Remember, this is unixmads forum, the decisions of what to have on this forum, and where, is his decision

There is no reason that non-Graal-related videos should have to go to the lounge, except laziness.

the Non graal related forum should be removed, since this is what the lounge is for.

If the moderators chose what was to be on these forums, you might have a reason to claim laziness, but we dont
unixmad doesnt want that stuff on the main forum.

If anything the lounge should be removed.

It wasn't a video, it was a perfectly fine link that was very informative in the thread I wanted it posted in.

Like I said, there are circumstances that videos would be fine in other sections... and I know it's Unixmad's forums, that doesn't mean that it's fine, or that we aren't going to speak up about it, especially if we have to pay for access to these forums.

In the end, all I have to say is: there aren't any other forums that I have ever browsed that were as strict, and suffocating as these forums. Most forums use standard rules that are pretty universal between all forums, except for Graal... it shows that something is wrong, and I don't think it's every other forum.

[/b]

Then stop claiming that the moderators are lazy, when we dont make the decisions.

DustyPorViva 06-12-2008 10:50 PM

I never said you were lazy; I said the tactic is a lazy approach, stop jumping to take everything so personally.

What's going on here is basically like banning household cleaners. Why? Because typically, there is nothing wrong with them, but they CAN be used for questionable purposes. Now, they allow you to use them, but only when you go down to townhall and specifically ask for someone to supervise you while you use them.

Now... why would they ban household cleaners instead of simply putting the effort into finding those who abuse them? Simply because the government feels it's easier to ban them instead of putting the work effort into managing them, even though the problem is hardly even cause for concern.

In otherwords... WTF?

Are you kidding me?

Then you would have to be 14 to view anything not related to Graal.

DustyPorViva 06-12-2008 11:35 PM

IT IS SAFE OUTSIDE OF GRAAL, IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!!!!

plz don't uncap me.

rofl... that's perfect logic there.

Admins 06-13-2008 01:05 AM

Sorry but these are the GRAAL forums, not a place for pointless ranting or whatever. Most forums that I know of, including open forums, are just deleting non-related threads, because it's too much wasted work to remind people over and over again to not post spam and non-related things. This thread is a fine example: instead of explaining their point of view why videos should be enabled in other sub-forums, most people here just argue about how strict the rules are and how in general the world is bad. Giving us arguments why stuff should be changed is helping, whining about deleted threads that I've probably never seen is not helping.

DustyPorViva 06-13-2008 01:10 AM

No one mentioned deleting threads? While I discussed the forums rules in general being strict, I never steered away from the main point I was making about the video rules. In fact, my discussion about strict rules is completely on topic with the video rules--because they are overly strict.

I gave my reasons, and was basically told "this is Unixmad's forums, he does what he wants." That's true, but it completely kills the point that you say we should give reasons if that's how we're going to be answered. None of what we say helps because no one in power really cares to listen to it.

xAzerothx 06-13-2008 01:11 AM

I just wanted to know the rules for posting videos.

Crono 06-13-2008 01:12 AM

The thread has been derailed from discussion of the video rules to a suggesiton of removing the non-graal related threads. Every single MMORPG out there has a forum, and every single MMORPG has an off-topic section of their forum as it is near impossible to talk about the game all day and keep a solid community. Graal is community based, so it should be.

Anyway, Graal related videos should be allowed to go in any thread as long as they're relevant. People should be allowed to post videos of their server in recruiting threads, post videos of scripts in action, post videos of events, I don't see why they should be restricted to one forum when they could be relevant to a thread outside of that forum. Non-Graal related videos are never really a bad thing, and they shouldn't be spammed around the forums if they don't have any relevance, but they should be allowed if they DO have relevance, such as 3d tutorials, etc.

Every video should be appropriate, but I don't see why they should be restricted to two forums for no reason.

MysticX2X 06-13-2008 09:27 AM

lolol didn't know posting videos was this big of a deal.

cbk1994 06-13-2008 07:20 PM

Can we post videos demoing scripts we release?

DustyPorViva 06-13-2008 09:28 PM

According to this? No.

DustyPorViva 06-13-2008 09:31 PM

Well, they said you can get them approved... but ya.....

MysticX2X 06-13-2008 09:42 PM

I don't get why you think you should gain rights here dusty. Its Unixmads forums, not ours. You agreed to abide by the rules when you signed up... Btw i only see like a total of one video every 2 weeks in the lounge, whats so big about it.

DustyPorViva 06-13-2008 09:48 PM

Well I joined when there were a different set of rules... but that's besides the point. I know they are Unixmad's forums, and I still abide by the rules. That doesn't mean, however, that I wouldn't like them changed. Unixmad made it so that we have to pay to have access to the forums, thus, they were a service... I'm not a happy customer and I'm going to voice it.

And even if there aren't a lot of videos, it doesn't really matter. It's not even about videos, it's about them banning everything instead of having to moderate the content. It's just like with links.
