Low Poly Tutorial

2 Attachment(s)
Well as some people (3) thought it would be nice... here it is!

The zip contains 26 steps (as screenshoots) with commentary how to create a mighty Shakram sword in 3D xD (so all credits goes to Shakram ^^)
Also the actual 3d file, texture and reference.

Enjoy!

edit: blast! forgot to explain one thing updated the zip file :P

If only MilkShape was made for Mac

Nice tutorial, perfect English by the way ;)

Does it matter how many vertex points we have?

Shakram 05-08-2008 08:36 AM

well the more vertexes the more polygons so I guess not, but should try to keep it down if you want to make low poly :)

Shakram 05-08-2008 12:18 PM

muh used my tiles from my "inside tiles" thread :O
http://home.graffiti.net/chrischi4u/inside3d.png

i have totally probs with the out-side-in thing on faces
the reverse vertex order changes nothing :(

yeah thx now it works :)

DustyPorViva 05-08-2008 07:43 PM

Also you might want to turn off texture smoothing or whatever it is.

Awesome, though the perspective of the floor looks weird.

TheFisherman 05-08-2008 11:04 PM

I tried earlier but didn't get some things, I forgot what I didn't get lol. I'm going to try again, thx Galdor.

Soala 05-09-2008 12:27 PM

Wtf, awesome inside tiles, bu now with 3D...GOSH I LOVE IT
MAKE GRAAL THAT DAMN WAY AND YOU'LL BE RICH LOL

Oh btw, anything new about Graal3D ?

Darklux 05-09-2008 01:59 PM

Id support a graal 3d looking like this.

Its far hotter then any g3d screenies I have seen so far and fits to the style of graal very good.

PrinceOfKenshin 05-09-2008 11:14 PM

Okay so i failed at trying to make this work lol xD! what do you mean by anti-clockwise?

cbk1994 05-09-2008 11:47 PM

Think counterclockwise, if that sounds familiar.

That's pretty nice :D Just needs a texture now :)

PrinceOfKenshin 05-12-2008 03:17 AM

Okay so is there an option so that you can get like 1 pixel by 1 pixel grid boxes? because i am sucking at this whole straight line deal xD

DustyPorViva 05-12-2008 03:29 AM

There's no key you can hold to draw a straight line?

Shift?

Galdor 05-12-2008 04:29 AM

well you get lines once you have done the polygons so just keep going ^^

grawlgamer 05-12-2008 05:12 AM

wait, your converting 2d to 3d? you could convert entire graal servers! then we'd have graal3d!

I'm pretty sure the problem lies more in the scripting aspect. I am sure there are plenty of people that, with enough time, could make 3d characters and items.

Good luck coding that. Graal doesn't support 3D objects yet. If it did, I woulda made a 3D server a LONG time ago.

Elk 05-12-2008 11:15 AM

ever heard of Graal 3D, programmer?

Wouldn't be that hard I guess.
  1. Change viewpoint perspective to birds eye, adjust angle and fix roll/yaw/height.
  2. Show a 2d object and put tiles on it
  3. Make funny little side on players and project them at an odd angle
  4. Do the same for all objects
  5. Profit

Ever heard that the functionality for Graal 3D hasn't been released yet?

Elk 05-12-2008 05:46 PM

yea i know that it isnt released but it has already been implemented :)

Galdor 05-12-2008 06:01 PM

anyone finding this helpful btw? xD
would like to see more 3d stuffs from you guys

xAzerothx 05-12-2008 06:08 PM

I don't understand how the faces work. I added faces but it didn't look anything like yours.

what do you mean? =(
show a screenshoot of it

PrinceOfKenshin 05-16-2008 01:12 AM

I am having a problem with the faces as well. Except right now i am in the part where you have the two different views and you have to connect them by faces and like i choose 3 vertexes and the press f and it says "please select exactly 3 vertices!"

a screenshoot of it would help but if you already have snaped together some vertexes use "weld together" while having the 3 vertexes selected that you want to create a face of.

but if not, be sure to be in 3d mode while you are creating the faces so you can easily see if you have selected some extra vertexes by mistake.

xAzerothx 05-16-2008 01:34 AM

How do I select the whole image to screen shot it? When I take a picture it turns white.
