User reputation system
 

We are planning to introduce User reputation:

User reputations allow users in the community to tell which users are quality and which users are not. And in response to user feedback, the forum has the ability to label and reward users for the quality of their posts, as is indicated by their reputation.

User reputation levels work very similar to user titles and user ranks in that they are an indicator of status that are displayed next to names in posts.

• You will be able to add or subtract reputation points from other users by clicking the reputation link in their posts.
• Each day you will be limited to a number of reputation clicks. I was thinking to only allow 1 click each day to avoid cheating.
• By default you will receive 10 points
• You will need a minimum of 10 points and 50 posts before being able to click on someone else, so if you loose reputation you will not be able any more to click.
• Each time you reach 100 reputation Point you will receive 1 more reputation click per day.
• Each year you will receive 1 more reputation click

Here are the default vbulletin list of reputation and the number of points to get the title. Let's define together a nice graal list:

User is infamous around these parts -999999
User can only hope to improve -50
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past -10
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User is on a distinguished road 10
User will become famous soon enough 25
User has a spectacular aura about 75
User is a jewel in the rough 125
User is just really nice 175
User is a glorious beacon of light 225
User is a name known to all 275
User is a splendid one to behold 325
User has much to be proud of 500
User has a brilliant future 750
User has a reputation beyond repute 1000

Tell us what you think of this system and propose a list of reputation titles, we will choose the best one.

It all sounds good in theory, but I fear it will be abused, and this will in no way indicate the reputation of anyone.

If thats how the community feels about a person then it will mirror their reputation.

Exactly and it WILL be abused.

How, people will minus people they don't like and plus people they do like? Oh wait, thats the POINT, people just don't like other people for no reason, especially online.

Except that some people don't like other people for a whole variety of different reasons, whether it be because they jailed/banned them on a server, or whatever other reason.
All this will show is how much a person is liked, which is fine as long as no one tries to use it as a reference to hire someone for a server or something.
The reputation system should in no way reflect whether a person is good or bad, just how much they are liked. ;)

This will be great - even if it IS abused... only a few will abuse it, and they will be the same ones getting a low reputation and many infractions, so that problem will deal with itself.

Seeing what people think of you can be quite humourous actually.

It annoymous, or atleast other forums are.

Though supermods and admins can see who leaves them rep.

Well, you could always make it so not everyone has to take part.

We already have this system in the other forum, and it was abused quite a bit, funny that you're using it now though...

I guess a test run wouldnt hurt? :P then later hold a poll on who wants to keep and not keep the new system. :) That way you make the majority happy.

Works fine on the maloria forums and is quite fun.

And comeon, if your feelings are hurt by this. Perhaps you should buy a pillow to cry into.

I don't like this idea because then someone will say something and people will basically think its like point +1 except you don't do it. People will abuse it.

As I said earlier, these same people will likely meet many infractions and quickly be banned. I can't imagine it being too much of a problem once we get used to it.

Unixmad bring back the EXP HP and MP system that was in effect a few years back it was cool :)

Seeing as its used for a way to insult someone on the other forum, i dont suggest it.

But without it.. my 150 accounts are useless.

P.S. You shouldn't be able to give rep to the same person more then once a week btw.

Perhaps it'd be better to use the old reputation system.

Only because you have the lowest rep (by far) on some other forum
