Skull head

Give me feedback negative or positive criticism accepted. However, if you are going to offer negative criticism tell me something that will help me. Not just an insult. Tell me what I could add, recolors I could do, how I could fix something, etc.
As I have seen from testing of the gfx, it doesn't work too well with hair and doesn't work at all with hair that shows the presence of ears in the south-facing view. It doesn't look too good from east or west view either. It doesn't work well with hats that show goggles, or something specifically around the eyes(to make it look better, I moved the eyes up a pixel).
Here it is:

it looks pretty good is there a way you could add a redish glow to the eyes to make it look like a evil skull

and can you make a body for it theres no body that would go with it but rather than that good job =)

I was thinking about making aversion with a reddish glow in the eye area. It's not a hard thing to do, actually. I may edit this post with that.

Wolfey 06-19-2006 12:15 AM

This is wat i came up with

naokohiro 06-19-2006 12:21 AM

http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/7485/skullhead29ws.png
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5...llhead35qr.png
I was thinking more along the lines of those. the eyes are wider in the second one, what do you think is better?

Wolfey 06-19-2006 12:22 AM

ya

Wolfey 06-19-2006 12:38 AM

your is better =P all we need now is a body =P

icemaster 06-19-2006 12:45 AM

i like it =]

MisterMastermind 06-19-2006 12:51 AM

The original one with a body would be fun for halloween. :) I also want a beer bottle to celeberate mardi gras and oktoberfest next year...

I like it. (Need I say more?)

naokohiro 06-19-2006 04:47 AM

I suppose I could make a body...... But then you will be asking for arms and legs.. that would take a while....

That's right, but you're now our new pixel monkey. Get to work or no banana. :) I also want angelic and demonic wings and a decent cowboy hat made from scratch. I'm so demanding =O

Bl0nkt 06-19-2006 06:46 AM

Very nifty, I must say.

Redo the shading on the head please. Your lightsource changes all over the place, and it's in a weird place to begin with.

Huwajux 06-19-2006 06:53 PM

Wow, we have a new Sayian (Almost...). Just do what Haunter (Where have you been!? D: ) says and hopefully they will go 1337. Other than that, very nice indeed!
It's hard to get nice comments from me, so congratulations!
Well done!

I'm not too good without a base or a picture to start/copy from(had both here). Just the same when I got a pencil and a piece of paper. I got the shading from khead0.png.... I basically made it by editing the head and looking at a picture of a skeleton.... I use all kinds of little tricks.... I did the same thing for the body as well, and I'll probably do the same for the arms and legs (if anyone decides I should make them)
Not many people can copy very easily from a picture like I can, though lots of people can.
Basically... I didn't do the shading myself, the original creators of the gfx for g2k2 did it... So don't blame me for the horrible shading.

Wolfey 06-19-2006 09:30 PM

nice the arms and legs shouldent be that hard to make >.<

naokohiro 06-19-2006 11:09 PM

not specifically that hard to make but I suspect it may take a little while. I copied it to look as much like the skeleton picture with the g2k2 cartoony feel to it and graphics good enough for g2k2 as well. BTW, I may try the wings and cowboy hat later, but I work at one project at a time. ^^

Zone is a professional server.

I mean if this is uploaded we might as well have purple horse heads running around everywhere.

...Well I guess you're right... But I'll finish this and see how it goes anyway. But what specifically makes it so bad? You might deter me from gfx....
But what about heads like this:
http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9...ehead157gn.png
http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/4...ehead179eq.png
http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9531/khead70su.png
http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/4...ehead227zr.png
http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/6954/zonehead230og.png
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1...ehead244pn.png
if heads like this are already uploaded to zone, what's to say my stuff is unworthy?

Crono 06-20-2006 01:18 AM

The devil one fits in just fine, I never liked the Sayien one, the one with the tribal markings and **** is fine, the red scar one is cool, and the rabbit was for easter.

However yours is just a plane skull, a SKULL. Notice how all of these heads have skin and such? A skull just doesn't fit and goes too far off into unnatural. Hell I should make a transperant bald head! PERFECT!!11

icemaster 06-20-2006 01:21 AM

could be painted on

sounds more like a personal issue than a problem zone has with it.
I want facts to help me, not opinions.(well, partially opinions) Only opinions that are positive affecting. Like what haunter said was actually a fact and not just an opinion. (although mainly opinion)

No, it's fact. The shading on that skull is wrong. And to your original reply to my post: No. I will not "blame" the original artist on the bad shading job. You're the one presenting this graphic, the burden is on your shoulders. You used somebody else's graphic as a starting point, but you shouldn't have let that fault slip though.

I'll ask you again though; Please fix the shading. There are pleanty of pixeling tutorials out there on the web, just Google for them.

The reason it's opinion is because someone could look at the exact same head and say the shading was awesome. And why should I fix the shading? it looks exactly like every single head in the g2k2 graphics anyway. Plus there wasn't enough answers, so I never finished the arms for it, although I did make the idle and walking animation sprites.

Well they could say the shading is awesome but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's WRONG.

I had this arguement with that Saiyan fellow many times... You should fix the shading because it's wrong. The other heads are wrong too. Why is it a good idea to make things more wrong? You could be the guy that starts the revolution of doing things RIGHT!

naokohiro 06-21-2006 06:43 AM

Saying it's wrong definitely isn't a fact, I'm sure the gfx team that made the original g2k2 heads don't think it was wrong, maybe you didn't learn what I learned in school many years ago, the difference between fact and opinion.
Let me use dictionary.com real quick.
fact=Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed
opinion=A judgment or estimation of the merit of a person or thing
Now, here's the information, you can agree with real information, or you can continue to argue, your choice, but eventually I will stop arguing.
I believe your opinion that the shading is wrong is only an opinion and not a fact because there is no exact measurement to if shading is wrong.
Also, I believe it to be an opinion because in my opinion fixing the shading will do no real good, I belive the current shading to be fine. The gfx staff chose the shading they liked, and they stuck with it, I have no reason to fix it. Even if it is "wrong", I don't care, fixing the shading probably won't make a difference anyway.
Facts, I can take into consideration and actually do something with.
Opinions can be taken into consideration if the opinion is a good one.
It's also better when you can get people to agree with you that the shading is wrong.
If let's say one or two more people complain about the shading, then it might make me think I should fix it, but the opinion of one person doesn't make any difference in my mind, when obviously the opinions of many of the people that supported g2k2 didn't think the shading was wrong.

I don't understand why you don't understand. It's their opinion that it looks nice but it's a fact that the shading is incorrect. The light source is all over the place! Not to mention the pillow shading, which I overlooked before. That's one big no-no.

I understand that it kind of sucks to have someone come around and point out all of the faults in something you did when everybody else has just been saying that it's great. You'll never get better at something if that one person doesn't speak up though. How can you learn from mistakes if you don't even know you made them in the first place?

that's not the point, i seriously don't care, i'm not fixing the so-called "wrong" shading. I was trying to teach you the difference from opinion and fact, and admit it anyway, you can't get anyone else to care.

I understand the difference between opinion and fact. >_>; I even gave you a personal example to emphasize that.

It's not "wrong" it's wrong. I'm not lying. If you don't believe me go to the Graphics Design section and ask about it. Your light source is all messed up.

Denile will get you nowhere. Too many crocodiles. Strangely enough, denial won't get you anywhere either.

gosh! i'll just stop GFXing all together. It doesn't affect you guys anyway.

Your the one submitting the GFX. The GFX is therefore made by you, meaning the shading is your fault. It doesn't matter if you worked off somebody elses head, it's your head your making and you should be held responsible for the shading. If you don't give a damn, don't make GFX.

If it doesn't mean crap to you, then why did you post it, asking for critisizm and then throwing it back in people's faces? We don't need your GFX, but if you continued, some would surely be put into Zone and you would get rewards. Don't act like a spoilt brat. :[
