Specialisation (idea)

On most games of Zone's genre, many have a specialisation system which allows you to attune extra bonuses to yourself for a style of play you truely like. In Zone, this'd remove the absolute need to learn appierce sparring in order to be anything close to 'good'. Majority of Zone is pistol based, in best weapon wise.

Basically, you buy training for the specialisation. To make it affordable, yet something to work for, it'd cost $5000 for the specialisation you want. Once you train a specialisation, you cannot retrain or untrain it for 2 months.

Pistol Specialisation
Benefits: Adds a fixated 100 ammo to every pistol, reduces the delay of all pistols by .05, increases fire and bullet speed of all pistols, reduces pistol damage by 15%. Increases movement speed when wielding pistols by 5%.
Allows usage of the trueshot ability.

Shotgun Specialisation
Applies to: Shotgun, Stormrifle, Gravitron
Benefits: Increases clip size by 15 (not ammo, how many shots you fire before you reload), adds +500 ammo to all shotgun weapons, reduces gravitron delay by .50 (half a second, making it a now viable weapon) and reduces energy needed by all by 50%. Shotgun also has it's delay reduced by .30, making it slightly faster than a r51. All shotgun shots now do a fixed 6 damage to compensate

Heavy Specialisation
Applies to: Any firesupport weapon (besides already listed weapons)
Benefits: Increases damage by all heavy weapons by 5%, increases HP by 30, decreases chaingun start up time by 50%, allows an extra 300 ammo for chaingun at the cost of 30 energy. Flamethrower now does DPS instead of 3 second burst damage (25 damage over 3 seconds, doesnt stun), flamethrower has no delay (fire while moving) and you can now aim mortar.

Melee Specialisation
Applies to: Muramasa, Plasmasabre, Combatknife
Benefits: Totally negates any energy usage needed by these weapons. Instead, damage is reduced by 25% but swing speed is increased. Movement speed jumps to 30% of normal while wielding melee weapons, combatknife is stronger, faster and has no delay. Plasmasabre can be dual wielded (look in voracious weapon ideas topic) as can Muramasa, having the same effect as a Kuraiittou.

Rifle Specialisation
Applies to: any rifle (besides ones already listed)
Benefits: A 15% increase in boost and normal speed while wielding a rifle. select rifles can be dual wielded for extra damage, charge shots use energy instead of ammo. Allows useage of the trueshot ability.

Explosives Specialisation
Applies to: All explosives
Benefits: The cost of explosives rise by 50%, but explosives of any kind now have no delay, and do 25% less damage. Base speed is increased by 5%, and jetpack does not consume energy but jumps a long way then forces you to the ground, requiring a 30 second cooldown before it can be used again. Allows usage of the trap ability.

Defensive Specialisation
Applies to: Nothing
Benefits: Increases HP by 30, reduces all damage taken by 5%, increases base speed by 5% and grants a specialisation specific armor, kevlarshield which will be detailed below. You are constricted to the defender class.

Commandant Specialisation
Applies to: Nothing
Benefits: When in play, any player around you (within a level) is granted 5% run speed (does not stack) 10 extra hp and an increased energy regen. Allows usage of trueshot, trap and snapdash. You are constricted to the commando class.

Stealth Specialisation
Applies to: Nothing
Benefit: You no longer appear on radar while walking normally, crawling completely removes you from sight. Consumes 1 energy per second of stealthed crawling. Weapons shot from stealth do an additional 50% damage. You are constricted to 80hp and have 120 energy.

Abilities:

Trueshot:
Any dual wielding weapon has a D attack that increases the damage of that shot by 100% but consumes 20 energy with stunted regen. Trueshot's also travel faster and is logged as a trueshot kill.

Trap:
Immobilsise and poison your enemy by laying an invisible trap (seen by team, like a proxmine) for 6 seconds (poison, imm is 2),

Snapdash:
By using 20 energy, you get 70% increased walkspeed for 10 seconds. Energy does not regen while dashing. Weapons can be shot with only 25% of their normal delay.

This would be unfair to the trials, say someone such as me buys each and every one of those upgrades, that would make an unstoppable super player, unkillable if they have any trace amounts of skill. You are also talking aobut something that would change the entire server of zone's fighting style. I dislike this idea very much...

icemaster 02-15-2006 03:12 PM

definitely unfair to trials, which is basically zones population, as a trial by heart i will defend them to the end....i remember being a trial and reading the forums talking about removing the guild tags (which is still retarded) and a couple people defended us trials (gerami being 1 and of course jesse lol) and also defending the hp depletion

trials just keep getting worse as time goes on...and they ARE zone...instead of adding more for p2ps i say we add more for the community

p.s. guild tags NEEEEED to be back for trials damnet -_-"

*Interrupts* Yeh so anyway, I like this idea. People dislike Zone because it doesn't matter what experience you get. It depends on pure reactions, whereas GK is like because you are good because of your level not natural skill. This idea will now even out the balance between natural skill and gaining experience (Money in this case). No suggestions on the trial idea though, sorry.

someonesomewhere 02-15-2006 08:22 PM

The ideas are fine. It will make another reason for me to not come back to Zone, because I already have no money.

And, for your information, trials are meant to be unfair to. It's their fault for not paying Gold subscription. And Graal is supposed to make money. You think that giving trials more freedom will encourage them to pay for just a little more?

Real DDC proved your last theory wrong. Pistols arn't the best weapon if you are a smart player.

Up the price to $30 000.

Everything there seems alright.

Your crazy... A shotgun that has 17 (17 because 15+2=17) shots in the clip? I didn't even read the rest as that is the most unfair weapon heard of... A rapid fire shotgun -_-.

All good except the 50% less chaingun start up time... Oh and the extra 30HP.

The no energy but decreased attack strength is nice. But no increasing speed. Melee weapons would be unreal if they had speed to back it up...

Applies to: any rifle (besides ones already listed)

Seems cool.

Seems cool aswell.

Why not re-name this? Armour?

Quote:

Benefits: When in play, any player around you (within a level) is granted 5% run speed (does not stack) 10 extra hp and an increased energy regen. Allows usage of trueshot, trap and snapdash. You are constricted to the commando class.
Sounds cool to.

Nah, WAY to much lame on this one...

Seems alright I guess...

In general, you should only be aloud to get one specialist... Otherwise this is the most lame idea ever...

Try reading the start, he stated that you can't change until two months, and you can only have one at a time.

Oh and to Jkool, the +30 on the heavy specialization sounds fine, but in my opinion it's more logical for it to decrease damage dealt to you by 1 hp each hit?

And the increase in speed isin't overpowered considered allot ofthe other weapons have an increased speed as well, and besides, do you know how much 30% is out of the speed that normal characters move?

But this idea would completely eliminate any trial competition and would render this game way to easy.
Dark just explained the reason I like zone, it's not about how long you've been playing or how much $/exp you have, the fact I can get on a trial account and kill my friends without them knowing, to me is very entertaining... Also the fact that a trial can run up and lame me while I'm AFK adds a sense of awareness and stealth. I agree with Touya on the fact that trials need guild tags back, maybe just 1 guild per trial, but no guild tags is just hurting VIP members.

Huwajux 02-16-2006 01:47 PM

On a side note, some of the ideas are a little overpowered.

Raeiphon 02-16-2006 02:27 PM

One specialisation at a time. Cant you people read?

"Basically, you buy training for the specialisation. To make it affordable, yet something to work for, it'd cost $5000 for the specialisation you want. Once you train a specialisation, you cannot retrain or untrain it for 2 months."

Yup, the only competition you would get from your trained weapon is other poeple who have trained that same skill.

You meen $30000... $5000 is easy I could make that in 2 days if I wanted :S.

Zulu15 02-16-2006 10:35 PM

30,000? You're being dedrater, if you make it that expensive, only a few people will be able to buy it. And I'm pretty sure nobody really cares if -you- can get that in two days if you wanted, because you know what? There are many people who can, and quite a few people who can't and it'd be unfair to them.

At most, the price would be something like 7,500, and I'd be against that, 5,000 is fine.

[Edit]Since I can only post once a day, I have to edit this one instead of posting another.

Think about it, not everyone will be able to buy it at 30,000, the people who don't buy it because they don't have enough money to be able to buy it have to get money by bounty or deathmatch, but they can't because theres somebody in deathmatch who has the upgrade, same scenario in Iricia.

[Edit #2] Make more downsides for the Specializations. And don't make the downside something cross-weapon, like for example you might say "If you have pistol specialization, your shotguns have 50% more delay." Make a downside for the same specialization you have on, like for example "When you have the pistol specialization, your shot's variance will be reduced by 5."

jkool666 02-16-2006 11:00 PM

Actually no 30000 is quite reasonable. For something this lame and unfair I'm pretty sure only people who really work hard should be able to get it. I think a lot of people actually might agree 5000 is WAY WAY WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To cheap... And also I never once asked if anyone cared how fast I can make money. I think either you should get your eyes checked or stop making random assumptions? I was using me getting 5000 in two days as an example to show has easy 5000 can be obtained.

True, I can obtain about 5k-7.5k per day from straight DM's and if they can't afford it then they haven't worked hard enough to get it...

No problem. If we can earn that money that fast then we worked for it and earned it through our skill, and they can't earn that much that fast they'll have to learn how to save up for it...

Talent? You call this game talent? Dude, it's a game to have fun in, where you can have a laugh with friends and something which is accessable. The game looks after it's more loyal subscribers with events etc. To attract more people this idea would work. Talent should not come into it. Does GK require talent? No! Does Runescape (Ha!) require talent? No!

Actually yeah they both do... Have you ever played Runescape? And regardless 5k is way to cheap and you are a fool if you disagree. You know aswell as I do anyone can earn 5000. Hell trials can earn 5000! And they can't save!!! This is the most stupid and lame idea I've ever heard of if its 5k. 30k then its still lame but it won't be abused by the entire server.

someonesomewhere 02-18-2006 08:48 PM

Regardless, you're all wrong, Graal is just there... what you make of it is what it becomes :/

And, now that I think of it, I don't like some of these ideas too much, overpowered.

Raeiphon 02-19-2006 07:44 AM

Some of them are far too overpowered, I agree.

Instead of brooding and screaming at me THEY"RE OVERPOWEREDOMGWTF, actually give me input, tell me what needs changing etc?

I have... Make them cost 30k and they will be alright.

MisterMastermind 02-19-2006 03:32 PM

I was thinking maybe 20k and cut all bonuses in half, these should be more like an advantage to using that weapon, not an auto-win.

The stormrifle and shotgun dont take energy. So Ithink the stormrifle should be in the Rifles catagory cuz it only helps it by incresing the clip by 15...

colin012 02-19-2006 07:21 PM

Ok an idea so you all can just get along!! You can buy it again to level it up till level 5 and each time you level it up/get it for the first time the price is doubled. like the 2nd is $10000 the 3rd is $20000 the 4th is $40000 the fith time is $80000. So inorder to reach the last level you have to spend over $100000 and you can't skip levels. Each time the bounses are doubled as well. Or aded on 1 half of what it was last time. That better. Can everyone agree on it.

Specialized powers only bring an RPG LVL type of thing here. If you want that go to GK, Maloria, etc.

It's partialy your fault because if you're better then them and you kill them it means they don't get any chance to get money because they keep dieing and they cant get better if they're alive for all of 5 seconds.

ya...im not gunna lie...theres WAY too many posts for me....too lazy...dont give a damn

um...i did notice a lot support it...

are you people thick headed? i RARELY play zone anymore, but to my knowledge its still MAINLY trials...if you add this crap then there will only be a few things that result from it

1. trials get mad
2. result of that
a.trials buy p2ps
b.trials quit

theres a MUCH higher chance of trials quitting because

a. most ppl i talk to dont have the money for p2p/vip
b.their parents wont let em buy it because its a waste of money
c.theyd rather spend it on something else

most trials will QUIT....leaving zone deserted with a few p2ps

stephan either never reads my posts or responds to mine...but come on......havent the trials had enough taken away? now your gunna add more? if i was a trial...id quit fast =/ and i love the game

side note: i dont play that much cause of.....problems...not because im bored of the game

if someone can give me evidence....WHY this is a good idea...and dont give me no crap about "oh well trials are supposed to TRY the game and have less" well YEAH but if you keep adding more...at this rate...no one will be trying the game....and p2ps will be bored as hell

Dont you ever maul my ideas with your dyslexic stick again, boy.

Alright, a few changes:

Shotgun Specialisation
Applies to: Shotgun, Stormrifle, Gravitron
Benefits: Increases clip size by 15 (not ammo, how many shots you fire before you reload), adds +500 ammo to all shotgun weapons, reduces gravitron delay by .50 (half a second, making it a now viable weapon) and reduces energy needed by all by 50%. Gravitron can be dual wielded, uses ammo instead of energy (plasma). Gravitron shot damage reduced by 50%.

Heavy Specialisation
Applies to: Any firesupport weapon (besides already listed weapons)
Benefits: Increases damage by all heavy weapons by 5%. Explosions do 30% less damage. Flamethrower now does DPS instead of 3 second burst damage (25 damage over 3 seconds, doesnt stun), flamethrower has no delay (fire while moving) and you can now aim mortar.

Sapper Specialisation
Appies to: Sapper
Benefits: All damage caused by you drains energy from the player, and leeches 5% of the damage caused as healing to you and nearby players. Chaingun is removed from the weapons arsenal. Constricted to sapper class only.

Stealth Specialisation
Applies to: Nothing
Benefits: You no longer appear on radar, your steps and bullets make no sounds, and while crawling, you are completely hidden from view. Crawling does no longer require you to pick up your weapons from coming out of it. Trap and incinerator are added.

Incinerator
applies to: Any class with the Stealth specialisation
Effect: A close range flamethrower that can be dual wielded that does 15 damage over 3 seconds at the expense of 5 energy per shot. Shoots three per, pistol weapon. Dps effect can be stacked on an enemy up to 3 times.

MisterMastermind 02-21-2006 02:56 PM

Yeah, this brings to much strategy and complication to zone. It's a very simple server that consists of skill and brute force... Specilizations might be too complicated for some players to comprehend.

If they can't afford it, it's their problem not ours. I know it's harsh, yet I have friends who have problems with payments, so they cannot upgrade. Why can't some of you grasp it? If you don't pay, you don't get extra features. If it was Touya's way hardly anyone would upgrade because they already have an advantage.

I never said all of them, just the ones you can name using any help possible.
Give P2P's an edge, not an instant win.
