Which global account to use?

I've been using the account Projectshifter for years, it's what people know me as. About a year ago, I came into possession of the account David, and I'm not sure which one I want to use. Currently Projectshifter is my global account, but I do not know whether to change it over or not. It might take a little bit to get Stefan or Unix to transfer over my rights and time, but not the end of the world. I think Projectshifter is what most people know me as, but then at this point I think dealing with playerworlds and such, it's a little more "formal" or "business" to go by David. It will be some work, and I can manually transfer some of my local rights on servers that have allowed me access, but not all. I'm not really sure though, would be a little bit adjusting and people would need to adjust. So let me know what you think please.

Lance 01-19-2005 07:46 AM

My advice? If you're not sure, stick with Projectshifter. If you are sure, then do what you want.

Curt1zzle 01-19-2005 07:49 AM

I feel you, man.

I used to go by LordCG, but now simply go by "C" or "Curtis". It's alot more down to business, and shows a change in age...I suppose.

Once you're past 15 or so, no more "XxXDeathAngelFlameXxX" =P

I'm torn on what you should use though...

Kaimetsu 01-19-2005 07:52 AM

I doubt that anybody cares, man. But I'd stick with the pseudonym if I were you.

Scott 01-19-2005 07:55 AM

Stick to PS. The bandwagon for using personal names is over. ;[

But Curt1zzle is okay? ;)

There was a bandwagon?

this thread says to me

"hey, look at me, I'm a global and you're not!"

Meh. I use my real name for a lot of stuff. I was just lucky that I registered the Shaun account early. I use other accounts for different things though. I like to use the Shaun account for stuff like the forums, otherwise I could be like Pickles and have people calling me superb, which, although nice as a compliment, probably becomes annoying after awhile.

Do you actually play Graal? You seem like the busy type who would do almost all developement.

Zero Hour 01-19-2005 08:51 AM

People will recognize your ProjectShifter account more easily.

Umm... I'm sorry? I don't think I rub it in peoples' faces, and I think if you realized the amount of time and effort I put into this game you'd feel differently =/

You would be right in that assumption. I do not play Graal but once in a very very very rare time when I am bored out of my mind and want to interact with some players. Even then I don't play but moreso just talk to players who have no idea who I am and see their thoughts and such.

Why? Even if you work twenty three hours a day, it doesn't preclude the type of behaviour he described.

[edit]
And your post here seems to support his hypothesis

No, but his post seemed to make it seem like I was bragging, and all I want to do is figure out which account to use :(

And your post didn't refute that accusation in any way.

Personally I would sooner think that you are just seeking attention, but he is entitled to his opinion.

As you are yours. I personally don't feel this was in any way to get attention. In all honesty I wish to be known only when people email me with a problem or so. Everyone wants to "chat" about things all the time when I'm working, or when I'm trying to relax people want me to help them script and such. I can only do so much, and by getting my name out there more for people who don't need my help, doesn't do much good. But again, you're entitled to your opinion, so you can believe whatever you wish to believe.

I think that I (if i where you) would stay with PS. LIke someone else said, that is what people know you by. And some people that dont log onto the forums and read... here pops in a person by the name "David" onto there server...AHHH (Then untell you tell them)

LordMatt 01-19-2005 02:52 PM

Projectshifter all the way.

osrs 01-19-2005 05:09 PM

I still prefer ProjectShifter.

If you want to be known, use ProjectShifter. When you don't want to be known, use David then. Do you prefer the relative anonymity while chatting about thoughts such as that?

Chris 01-19-2005 07:21 PM

I went with my real name for an account, because everyone knows me by Chris. My original account is outdated and I can't stand the name (thesaiyan). It actually took me a while to get this account. I bugged Lynzdey for it, but she always told me the owner used it. Finally Spark transferred it over to me.

I know --Chris-- hates me for it. :frown:

Do whichever seems best PS.

Projectshifter 01-19-2005 11:49 PM

It seems an overwhelming number of people wish for it to remain Projectshifter, so I suppose then I'll keep it for now, lol. Thanks for all the input guys.

falco10291029 01-20-2005 01:07 AM

If you don't use it/didn't convert to using it, it doesn't count. :)

We care because we are discussing real life-named accounts.

That really, really, rubs me the wrong way. I thought accounts from before p2p were guaranteed to stay there, just waiting to be upgraded. Also, I know Genmo was aiming for my Shaun account at one time. I would have become... Violent (?), had somebody just decided to give my account away because they felt like it.

Accounts are checked for activity and upgrades before they are given out. For example I did not originaly own the David account. It was a trial account, and had not been used in quite some time, which is how I came to ownership of it and then upgraded it.

Slash-P2P 01-20-2005 05:11 AM

I like David but it might be better to use Projectshifter. You're more well known as Projectshifter and you probably won't want people going "omg some hacker called David logged on my server!!!1"
