Quick Hosted Servers Reviews

So, I decided to go to every hosted server and spend 2~5 minutes on each and write some review about it, and mark it.

So, I log on to Graal and go to the hosted tab. On top of the list is 'Eden', with 8 players online. I connect.

Eden
I start in the Events House, for no other reason than that I already visited Eden once before. It has its own custom tileset, which is quite nice. Very impressive, that inside level.
Then I went outside. Some of the tiles were messed up, and I had to do a lot of stuff to view the properly, but I was too lazy for that. The tiles I could see though, were very good. I really like the building tiles - to bad the level contained some tile errors.
Rating: 7/10
Very impressive GFX, but clearly not finished and it's in German, so it is difficult to play for those who don't speak that language. What a waste...

Sparitoria
"Welcome to Sparitoria, gozelda! There is 1 person online!". I opened up my server list and found no less then 4 [exluding NPC server and me]. Something didn't seem right. I also was stuck in a seeminlgy tile-error free room with staff applications where I couldn't unstick from my last visist.
Rating: 3/5

Arkland Empires
I had the choice between two worlds, since one was under construction; Lunensis and Elan. I went on Lunensis, it wasn't so bad although 'a complete era rip-off'. Then I went to Elan, which was pretty well made but not very 'classic'.
Rating:7.5/10

Dark Diamond
Yay, I was stuck in one room with nothing to do.
Rating: 1/2

Doomsday
Pretty decent server, but not much new stuff. Wasn't exciting enough to make me play any longer then 30 seconds.
Rating:6.7/10

Elemental Kingdoms
Last time I played, so I went to the graveyard. I guess this is supposed to be a RP server? Then why the hell does a player go to a graveyard of fired/quit staff? Odd. Anyway, the GFX sucked and so did the fighting system. The levels sucked too.
Rating: 5/10

Elura
Mediocre, mediocre... Poor levels. No new GFX. Not exciting. Mediocre? Just bad.
Rating:4.5/10

Faded Edge
Wow. I like this server :D The GFX were just a slight edit of the tileset yet looked smooth, and the levels were carefully made. One sad thing was that it wasn't on a whole map but seperate levels, so I once got stuck in a tree. On the other hand did it make place for some nice lil' spots.
Rating: 7.8/10

Last: Zenkou
Pity the tileset didn't load properly, but this looks very promising. A nice GUI, though not completely smooth operating. Very nice, has potential.
Rating:8/10

Sue me for giving your server a bad mark. It's not like it matters.

Kaimetsu 12-06-2004 09:44 PM

I'd say you were excessively generous.

Crono 12-06-2004 09:47 PM

I agree with kai

Updated your livejournal.

And I was thinking I was being mean.

falco10291029 12-06-2004 11:46 PM

Whats wrong with EK's fighting system? I aim to please, so i can try to make it better (i cant GFX, we are slowly replacing some sucky graphics though).

Doahh_p2p 12-07-2004 02:09 AM

Eden is swapping over to english only

LogicBot 12-07-2004 02:31 AM

Most servers do suck.

You need to know staff to know whats going to be new, or is new, on Doomsday by the way.

It isn't smooth, and the main thing that bugs me is that I do not flint (?) when I get hurt.

zokemon 12-07-2004 07:29 PM

I would have to say Zenkou is the only server I would give my respects to...
All the other servers in hosted just plan suck.

What do you mean by smooth? and flint?

smooth -> streamlined
flint - hurt.gani

falco10291029 12-07-2004 11:21 PM

It's streamlined just fine, it runs normally, the only problem exists with a couple of spells (the monsters dont always register the actionprojectile with a couple of the spells). And hurt.gani is used, you just dont fling back like you would with default heart system.

xAndrewx 12-07-2004 11:37 PM

eden has wans levels, stolen scripts and an rpg maker tileset..

nice reviews thoguh

Make it.
I don't mean to be harsh but your server's quality is the type of quality I call "noob quality" meaning the people who make it have newbie skills...

falco10291029 12-08-2004 04:58 AM

to make it fling back i would have to change every weapon to include from variables, and then add it to the shoot parameters, and then upon hitting the player have a formula figuring out how exactly to fling back, and then actually implement that. That is a whole lot of trouble and really isn't worth it.

What an awesome attitude for a server manager.

Do you have any idea how many times I did stuff like that on Element?
Don't complain.

What's the point of an unrealistic fling backwards 10 tiles? I do small extra things that I think are good, i pesonally think the fling back is stupid. In rl all you would do is stumble if attacked, that's why you cant act while you're hurt.

Exactly what I'm trying to say x_x I just stand, I'm like 'woah, the monster can't hit me' because the HP bar's placement etc. sucks too, all of the sudden I'm dead.

The details are irrelevant. The key point is that you're unwilling to put anything but token effort into your systems.

haro41 12-09-2004 12:49 AM

the point of the fling back is to allow the guy being hit a chance to return attack. if there was no fling back then the guy could just stand over you and slash rapidly, hurting you over and over until ur dead.

The hp bar is in the same place in a lot of playerworlds, upper left corner. You should be able to see if your gani is set at hurt and hear the grunt your character makes. It isn't my fault if your perception is bad.

Did you not read my post? I said i put small details in all the time, mI just like them to make sense when I do.

Actually no, the time in which you can't act is less than the time in which you can't be hurt after you'r hit. Besides, do you fling back 5 feet in real life so you can hit back when you're in a fight? No, often it is the person who makes the first move who will win, since they can get repeated hits in. Even so, I still have it so you have a short time to strike back before you are hittable again.

And therefore it must be true? I'm judging your attitude based on what you've done, not what you've said.

You can't say a key point based on what you think if this is the case.

Based on what I and multiple others think? Why not?

zokemon 12-09-2004 02:10 AM

falco...
I think it is impossible to try to explain to you the quality of your server versus other ones. It is just something that you find out... a sort of artistic quality I guess.

Declarations of opinion? No I haven't. I'm not looking to argue the point in debate, because with you that's kind of boring and I really don't think there's any need. If any of our readers want to see if I'm right, they can just log onto the playerworld and find out for themselves. I'm leaving my point unsupported because I'm not looking to win anything here and, frankly, demolishing your project piece by piece would be too cruel even for me.

How do you know this? The things that happen in movies aren't true.

The red doesnt go down, that is just a back so you know that's the hp area. The nimbers in there go down, and you should be able to see that.

I have little concern for your perception. If you have trouble seeing it, get glasses.

Based off of experience, not movies, so I know firsthand that that is how a fight will usually work, unless the opponent pauses for some reason or another.

So your talking about real fights huh?
The person who strikes first might get repeated hits in, but the opponent might just take it in and then strike back faster and stronger. Its not always the person who strikes first that wins.

If you punched someone in the face, it doesn't mean you won the fight. I had a friend who got into a fight with another kid at my school and he was punched in the mouth first, then he started bleeding. Once he noticed he was bleeding, he started punching the other kid in the face until the kid ran away. Its a matter of strength, endurance, and agility.

Its quite possible that the person who strikes first will win, but its all a matter of skills.

Hardly, the hp bar using numbers is very common, but still MIGHT be replaced later (I am thinking of making my server pseudo-realistic [meaning mostly based on rl, withn certain fantasy things added], and you wouldn't ever know your exact health in rl)

Me not casring that you are not intelligient enough to buy glasses when you can't see your character's animationg does not make it bad.

Knowing how a fight works and making it basically like that doesn't either.

What are you talking about?

This whole statement is flawed in many ways. First of all, for the person to come back, either;
A) He is being hit by a wimp and therefore not getting damaged
or
B) He stops getting punched, even for a couple seconds, giving him a chance to come back.

Based on the time it would take a normal person to realize this and react , the other person would have to had stop hitting them for at least a couple seconds. If he was getting repeatedly hit, say a punch every second until he's down, he wouldn't have the chance to react.

Get off Graal and fight someone. You don't sit there and wait your turn.

I don't know what you think a "normal" person is, but when I start bleeding I can feel it. I hope you know you can react when someone is punching you. Theres no freezeplayer in real life.

falco10291029 12-10-2004 02:07 AM

Have you been in a real fight slash? When you are punched, you are usually dazed and cant really react for about a second or two, at least, depending on the punch's force. I would know. The only reason I win fights (since i am bad at first strike) is because the opponent is usually too stupid to constantly punch, which would be very hard to react to. If you are some superhuman who doesnt react to being hit at all, please share the source of your power :whatever:.

Dazed and can't react? In a real fight, that gets you killed, or at least beaten up.
