Drawing Tablet

Hello!
Im not sure if this thread fits in here but anyway.
I was wondering if i should buy a drawing tablet?
Not an expensive one thought, just wondering if they are any good.
And if any of you have art that is drawed with the drawing tablet i would appreciate if you posted it :)

Scott 07-16-2004 09:12 PM

Blah, I really want one myself >_>
I would suggest don't buying a cheap one, you know the 4x5's. I would save up and get a nice one, because it's worth it.

xxCloudxx 07-16-2004 09:52 PM

Hmm i was thinking differently lol, if i don't like it, it won't be a big deal since it was a bit cheap, the one im thinking of costs about 93$ with a drawing software.

er me and donald got a true touch 3d one mine was $64.00 (shipping included) on the buy it now function on ebay. Sofar it has not helped me with graal gfx but it is handy for drawing concept art. I am still getting used to it but I would say it was worth every cent.

Here is one of the things I have drawn with it:

Nappa 07-23-2004 07:05 AM

Ok.. I know nothing about gfx, so what the heck is a Drawing Tablet ?

Nitkizi 07-23-2004 07:54 AM

Its like a board that you use a 'pen' to draw on and it transfer onto the computer. I've never actually seen one in person or used one, but I'm pretty sure that's the basic jist of it.

LordMatt 07-23-2004 11:31 AM

buy a cheap one, see how you like it, take it back. buy an expensive one, see how you like it, decide what you want to do. this is how i usually operate on somethings you can return

Hmm so it's kinda made for drawings...... can you use this tablet in all kind of programs? And is the pen functional as a mouse? The one i bought (i get it tomorrow i think) got a tablet, a mouse and a pen and it comes a software with it to.

Galdor 07-23-2004 02:27 PM

yes you can use your tablet for all kinds of programs. its like a mouse. =O

Monkeyboy_McGee 07-23-2004 03:40 PM

Yeah, but i couldn't stand using it as a mouse. can you imagine playing an FPS game with your gfx tablet? *****, i might try that actually, sounds funny...

Galdor 07-23-2004 04:50 PM

ahaha yes, it'd be like that tv show we have/had over here in england called Zzap or something. There was this artist who drew stuff on the background (everything was white) and then he pulled it out and it was real. I could draw a nuclear missile above the enemy and then watch them all blow up XD

Galdor 07-24-2004 02:37 AM

xxCloudxx 07-24-2004 02:47 AM

Ahhhh how do u do it?! O_O;; ;-; )': Do you like draw a drawing with a pencil first, then put it on the drawing tablet then draw over with the tablet pen?

Galdor 07-24-2004 02:51 AM

i first make a sketch in my gfx program.. then i just take some cool brush stuffs and start to color =P

xxCloudxx 07-24-2004 02:58 AM

You just make a sketch with the pen? thats impossible! lol not really but it's really hard to draw on the tablet while watching the screen and get straight lines at the same time -.+

Galdor 07-24-2004 03:01 AM

lol you you just got your tablet... you will get used to it soon =O

Yeah the first few times you pick it up and try touse it, it is really hard because of the proportions of the screen/tablet, but after a few go's you will suddenly find it simple. That's what happened to me, anyway, i was like "arg, i jsut can't get the hang of this! it's all just too strange!...oh, wait...no, i've got it, this is easy, lol"

Galdor 07-24-2004 03:14 AM

yea xD

haunter 07-24-2004 03:39 AM

I don't really like my tablet, it's too small... I tried using the bigger one at school... But I had to keep 'scrolling' around... If I'm using a tablet, my mouse should be at the top left corner of the screen when my pen is at the top left corner of the tablet... I shouldn't have to 'scroll' around. ;(

I heard Wacom is good for tablets, they range ~ $80, probably less if you get them refurbished.

What? :frown:

Zero Hour 07-24-2004 04:40 AM

The school's Wacom was ~450, as far as I understand...

Galdor 07-24-2004 04:51 AM

i had to pay ~ 525 $ (3995 kr ("Swedish Krona")) for a wacom tablet a4

Monkeyboy_McGee 07-24-2004 02:24 PM

No idea how much mine cost but knowing my dad it will have been quite cheap, <£100 definitely. The drawing area on it's about the size of a postcard, but i can still use it good :)
