Online Level Editer
If you havn't seen this thread, than please go there before you vote.
The Thread. I would like too see one, that is global. Some don't. I think a percentage would tell us if we could get one, or not. Thank you for your comments, in advance. |
It would seem that it would be a quite deadly exploit if people were ever to abuse it if it got bugged.

As for this "global" thing... are you simply talking about a script which is made available to everyone? If not, I'm confused. Btw, your commas are horribly misplaced. ;) |
Version 3.x should have one i believe, it will be totally scriptable too :)
|
Well 3.1 is a little ways off, all I want is the ability to be able to load more than one level from the file browser without any problems. Because of you load a second level, the first one will not upload when you push the save button. This is annoying if I'm making links because I'll forget the coordinates.
|
I don't want it because they will take off the offline editor. Anyone with a peanut sized brain can figure out why taking out offline is nothing more than stupid.
|
Online editing is much more interesting though since other people can see your modifcations instantly and you don't need to connect with RC, download the file, edit it, upload, test, modify, upload, test etc., not to forget the work of configuring your Graal to accept the gmap etc. The script can use hasright() to check if the player is allowed to do the modifcations, so you can make it very secure, or you can e.g. let players edit their houses. In v3.1 it will also be possible to edit scripts of npcs directly. The scripted level editor for v3.1 is in early state though.
|
so they can add scripts straight away, no thanks some one did that on era and got rich very easilly, what about offline, can we still make levels offline?
|
I'm fine with it as long as there is still an offline level editor.
If you remove it i'll steal your pancakes ;) |

That is a very good idea...When I used to dev on Classic servers it used to be a hassle to make the levels and then save and upload from RC then close editor get on player check how it looks, etc. This would make it so much easier and would without a doubt speed up PW development. And servers with custom Tilesets such as era can see if they made a mistake instantly instead of waiting and seeing how it turned out, lol. Very good Idea, I give it two thumbs up and can't wait to use it. |
I would like to see this very much, and i dont think itd be too hard to do in the 2.x versions still. Iv had an idea for a long time they should devide up the level editor and the script editor into two differant programs for differant people. Itd be easier for scripters and easier on levelers. This would work for the online editor because if you devided up the two the level editor could be used on line thus making it so you can edit online and open many levels at once. This could also make for faster development.. But hey what do i know? I prolly wrong...as usual.

Anyway, it's not like we need to worry too much about this stuff right now, as 3.1 will never come out. The last release date has been passed by what, 5 months? :/ |

it's all one program..
|
why not just ask someone to make one and have it open source?
|
Well i guess Stefan is going to start working on a system for this if he hasnt already.
|
Something like this is pretty much done, however its not open source to everyone i dont think :P

There has been talk of letting other people use it, but its pretty unique and pretty well done right now. |
Unless the online level editer is-somehow-better than the offline, you should still be able too use the offline.
It'd be hard to use with people running around. I think it would be good only for fixing errors. The scripting thing is also very good. you an stop sparring very quickly! ^^ |

You can see it instantly when you push the save button after hitting edit once. Test? Easy, keep the level open until you feel it's perfect. You -can- hit the save button more than once people >_>; Gmaps are simple, people make them way too complicated these days. I'm not against the online level editor itself, I'm against the fact that YOU'RE GOING TO REMOVE THE OFFLINE EDITOR. This is literally KILLING THE BEST THING IN GRAAL. |

Can I see where they said theu would kill the offline editer please...You keep refering too this, and I have yet too see anyone who means something that can change anything actually say they were going too.
|
It was an old thread in the future improvements thread. You'll have to dig.
|
Who made it?

Kai stated it wasn't entirely certain at that point It is still much easier to actually develop offline, then make final touches online. Unless I get dsl and you emulate the debugger in the editor (I don't use it much, but I like it), in which case I'd only have the begginer scripters to whine about (I still don't care for the idea of having people learn through getting jobs on servers). |
it's funny how graal3d looks like the base unreal engine and now open source level editors are popping up .... hmm
|
I don't think Graal3D looks all that good...I guess i'm just not into that stuff or my graphics card is not up to date...But it looks choppy to me, and it looks like it'd lag like a mofo
|
Yeah, I really don't appreciate how you went and made this thread after I said I was going to... I just got on the main forums to do so, when I see it... That really was not cool =/ Regardless, it seems that enough WANT an online level editor, so I think I'm going to go around to a few random playerworlds, ask if they'd be interested in one, and then make my final thoughts on it. Right now, it looks like I might need to make one. If I do, it'll be based on a server->to->server usage rights. Where you get in touch with me, tell me you're interested in using it, I'll come and install it and show you how to work it and ta-da. Rather than just posting it out in the open, but I don't know. Will need to do a future poll on that later as well, but that's for another day.

I wouldnt dare relese mine into the open, and should I decide not to renew my server, i would more then happily allow other servers to use it. |

 though |
We are not going to remove the editor stuff from v2.x, but we are not adding an offline editor to v3.x. There will be functionality in v3.1 to allow scripting of online editor. Tile editing is working but is not having a good interface yet, script editing is working for global npcs, soon for local npcs.
|
Quote:
In other words, we can still use 2.22 to edit things offline, as expected. However, any updates to the scripting language will not be present in the editor, therefore it becomes more and more outdated. |
