Why in the hell is a Forest member going 'lol'?

GoZelda 07-18-2003 05:08 PM

Because Monk Albus Holy said "Make sure to get my pretty face in" i guess.

Yeah that's two things

In Roleplaying *Expecially in a Roleplaying event* you shouldn't say lol OR say 'I got the screenshot' or what ever.

UNPTWOPWINNER 07-18-2003 08:16 PM

Event was over by then, so the RPing factor of the event goes poof.
Now RPing while on tag is a different story.

No... as long as they are on tag they are REQUIRED to RP. Event or not.

It's a disgrace to see people like that while RPing. Those people should be removed.

Satrek2000 07-18-2003 10:04 PM

Removing people for having fun? Tricky, I'd say. If you enforce roleplaying like that, soon you'll have almost empty kingdoms and annoyed players, where everyone should be having fun...

UNPTWOPWINNER 07-18-2003 10:25 PM

You aren't required to RP every waking moment on tag. If that was the case, NOBODY would be in ANY kingdom right now.

Zurkiba 07-19-2003 01:01 AM

You're supposed to RP every moment you're on tag. That's why they call it ROLE PLAYING KINGDOMS. 2k2 was meant for the sole purpose of role playing. Not breaking the rules.

I'm going to find Chris to see how you people even got in.

You RP every moment you are on tag. This is correct.

Making OOC statements requires you to put (( and )) around the statement.

Discharge 07-19-2003 02:53 AM

This is why role-playing in Kingdoms is horrible because half of you monkeys posting here don't fully understand the correct way to role-play in Kingdoms. Its not role-playing only in events but role-playing everywhere on tag or use ((text)) when speaking out-of-character.

Cheers to Zurkiba.

Butz 07-19-2003 03:53 AM

Yes, I've seen a lot of people using these strange words, that one and then there's that stuffoo, stiffoo? Meh, I can't even pronounce it, same with Whtff. Complete and utter nonsense.

((As a side note, although it's not good, it could be worse, RPing somewhere else earlier in the week brought visits by people playing characters of Inu Yasha, Capt. James Kirk, and Lt. Commander Data. Needless to say, those of us who are against that sort of thing had a fun time annoying these people until they left. You wouldn't believe how worked up someone gets when you keep asking them things like, "What's a Warp Drive?" and "Are Romulans a type of dessert?" ^.^; ))

Satrek2000 07-19-2003 03:38 PM

I, for one, am here to have fun, and that includes RPing. I don't use such crippled words or constructions, and I hardly ever use it onscreen, but I wouldn't make such a fuss about it, as I don't see a major offense in the screenshot, as it is. maybe it's just me... And don't get me wrong, I do RP... °°

I worked my ass off for Forest. That screenshot is a disgrace to me and my work. It's a humiliation to the kingdom of Forest.

Forest used to have top of the line RPers. If I caught you doing something like that I terminated you. If you went to another nation then I terminated that nation. It was that simple.

--Chris-- 07-19-2003 10:07 PM

Zurk I'm more strict than you, trust me ;p

I was pissed when I saw that too, especially when it was "pic of the day" with false information. I did not attend nor host that event...I started hosting football, gave the forest shield which was the prize to Stryker who was on his EM tag and told him to take the winning team of 3 from football to play blackjack, winner of blackjack got the shield. Guess this is what happens when I'm not supervising eh? I'll deal with these fools ;p Slave rank until they obtain certain items like a certain amount of stone then depending on their behavior (especially RP wise and how often tag is worn) I'll let them stay.

Other than that...to Forest members, forgive my abscence within the past two weeks (even though I've been on for an hour or two every few days.) Only two more Forest items to go and with this kinda thing you aren't really motivating me, ya' know?

Edit: Zurk, you didn't lead Forest, you lead Astri which = "The Powerful Kingdom That Never Was And Thought It Could"

DevilsDice 07-20-2003 12:37 AM

Yes, that picture is exactly what anybody inside of a kingdom, on tag does. It just so happens you dont usually care, or care to think that you are on tag. I enjoy RPing throughly, and I honestly think Chris and Zurkiba are totally right in being dissappointed or disgusted. It's rather sad when in "Toguilds" people can be rather good at speaking the elven tongue, or using OOC brackets when needed. Yet I dont think alot of people even remember that even on-screen, you are in-role. Also, alot of people missd the rule "<first name, last name> Of The"... I see alot of Of's and somtimes just their name then tag... Kinda annoys me.

Also, that event was stupid. I scored 4 goals, Zethar scored one, and they piss and whine because they had the lvl 20 people and we still won, due to a hill slant advantage. Then we all play B/J... what crap... I could of actually won that event, had 3 people been missing... :grrr:

I lead Forest. But I made Forest Astri because Forest wasn't working out due to lack of citizen cooperation.

Here we have Zormites who really don't care about role-playing, and when you point it out, neither the Kingdom leader or the player care for role-playing regulations. I guess if the kingdom leader doesn't bother, nor will its members.

Dont change quotes again. It's not kingdom bashing and their server is probally down.

What it was was the Zormites cussing Discharge out for no apparent reason.

That's silly. If it is OOC, then it is obvious and you do not need the brackets.

And why exactly is 'lol' OOC?

MKSLAYER 08-11-2003 06:04 PM

im with you on this loriel... lol expresses an action and all your doing is creating a visual effect

You think it's obvious? What if you and a group of kingdom-mates were gathered in an area, and you were to say "Agh, I broke my leg."

Now, If you were to always type without brackets, is that IC or OOC?

The answer is you have no way of knowing.

As for 'lol': it is an internet acryonym. You don't speak in internet acronyms now (Do you go to the grocery store, and when someone comically slips on a spilled bucket-o-grease, say "El Oh El!"? Someone might think you were speaking in Spanish!), and you didn't speak in internet acronyms in medieval kingdoms.

Oh so when you're with your friends and someone says something funny do you say LOL?

And the Brackets mean that what s/he never stated that IC.

For example
((I'm starting a revolution)) is not the same as I'm starting a Revolution.

The first one you cant be punished for by the monarchs. The second one you can.

bo0ey 08-11-2003 10:22 PM

I enjoy RPing but it's hard to make my statements seem more Ic than OOC... I mean I am still me, im not a little fish.. to be IC i would have to say "glub glub" and that wouldn't be too easy for other people to understand.;)

If you're a Zormite Fish then you have the ability to speak.

The Parrot doesn't go 'Kaw Kaw' when it tries to speak does it?

Loriel 08-12-2003 02:42 AM

First of all, I and my friends _do_ say lol, and not laugh. IRL. But that does not matter here.
What I tried to say if that is obviously enough OOC, like taking screenshots or such, there is no need to mark OOC with brackets. Of course you need to mark it when starting OOC-revolutions, but that's not the case in the screenshot that was complained about, right?
In my opinion, saying lol is no different than saying ::laughs out loud:: or whatever the current trend for marking actions is.

when they say LOL then their character is acually saying El oh el.

when they say ((lol)) then their character is saying nothing.

Brackets are needed for every OOC... obvious or not.

No. Why should their character say that? lol is obviously expressing an action and not something one would say.

3) No :)

1) Actions are defined by those little stars... *laughing out loud*

2) Because Graal's RPing states that anything in the brackets (Meaning from the (( to the ))) are ALL OOC

3) Yes

actually tseng after i was playing the computor for like 2 weeks and seeing none of my friends i started to say El Oh El which is really disturbing in my opinion XD

If I say lol, without asterisks, you would still understand what I mean.

And common internet sense states that "lol" is not to be read as "el oh el" but to be interpreted as the one saying it is laughing out loud.

Wow, I will be sure never to join any kingdoms if I can be punished for things like that.

If you're assigned to RP as a common fish in a kingdom, you better "talk" in such a way or leave otherwise you're ruining roleplaying.

Either way, I know I'd rather not have most people talking IC to me like they do to their friends IRL. I already get enough of IC people calling me "dude". I get sick of it enough when a common Graalian on any server calls me "dude", I'd rather not deal with that IC too.

It isn't too difficult. When your tag is on, you role play. When you aren't role playing, you take it off.

Zethar 08-20-2003 05:12 AM

I wasn't talking about me. I was talking about all the people going "OMG liek i r gonna r0x0rz j00 s0x0rz" while on tag

I wasn't really talking specificaly to you either.

By "your" I meant "when someone" is on tag, etc.
