Graal Status Image

So many of you are familiar with the couple different methods too have an image in your signature that says what server your account is on. The original method is a script on Graal Statistics, which is ugly, but works. The other is a similar, and prettier script on Maloria's website.

A while back I got access to that php script from Maloria's server from Maniaman so that I could update it. I added a background image, mostly. I never did anything with it until now.

http://coreymedia.com/graal/graalsta...ys&name=Abjorn
(Just use http://coreymedia.com/graal/graalsta...=your_nickname)

But Maniman brought up an interesting idea to me. What if we had custom background images that relied on what server you were on? I think it's a novel idea, and could have some nice results, but what do you think?

I could do some background images on my own, but other than that servers that want a custom image for them would have to make one on their own and supply it to me. So is it worth doing?

Seich 04-29-2010 07:08 AM

I think this is a really good idea. It would make these signatures more dynamic.

DustyPorViva 04-29-2010 07:51 AM

That seems fairly bulky to me, but I suppose since you brought up background images... being able to position the text would be great in that case.
Center, top-left, top-right, left, bottom, and so on.

adam 04-29-2010 08:04 AM

Other: keep working on n-pulse o.O

DustyPorViva 04-29-2010 08:07 AM

Also, I think I'd much prefer them to be slimmer. Skinny and longer than what they are now, like userbars:

Actually it would be very simple. Just have an array of server names that I have backgrounds for and if so load that image instead of the default. I can add in an option for positioning as well.

snoop413 04-29-2010 08:50 AM

does anybody care what server someone else is on? i mean really?

It's just a little gimmick, it's not like this needs to be taken that seriously. lol

The thing on graalstats takes the information from the global buddy list because that graalonline profile page seemed incredibly unreliable, did that change? Or is there a better method by now?

Seeya 04-29-2010 12:02 PM

Can i add the fact that the big green bar is completely hideous.

Yes you may. Haven't had the inclination to make a better background as of yet.

I added two new options to it, as well:

pos - Horizontal positioning of the text. "l" for left, "r" for right, and "c" for centered, which is the default.
bg - Custom background image. It can be anything, size doesn't matter (though it will effect load time).

And I can see you're already using your own background image...actually, that's a good idea for a background image :O

yahikno ^^
(but it ****s up ...)

Matt 04-29-2010 10:46 PM

I think it's worth doing, after i had you fix up that code, and let N-Pulse use it, i had a few GATs make about 6-7 templates, most of them are pretty nice, but i'll post them here or something when i can find them. ^^

Good to see good ideas, have good feedback.

DustyPorViva 04-29-2010 10:48 PM

Kind of late for the poll when you already had it done? :P

kia345 04-29-2010 11:00 PM

I wouldn't say it's "worth doing" in the sense that it's a big deal. It seems cute and novel, and something nifty to go on the side though.

Well, that is more or less what I meant.

(btw, shouldn't have a period at the end, IMO) :)

*cough* Make a vBulletin addon that adds another ball like this with the alt text displaying what server the player is on if any. A profile field could do the job too. *cough*

Why not just say: "Playing: Unholy Nation" on the left under the avatars?

I thought about that, but it doesn't say "Viewing: The Forums" so I figured it'd be more consistent.

Nataxo 04-29-2010 11:45 PM

It's cool! can you make a purple one??

No idea how to change the text color, sorry.

coreys 04-30-2010 12:13 AM

Just changed the background image and added the ability to have a background based on what server you're on. Right now there's only a background for N-Pulse.

Can you make these a link?
So that you can click on it to connect to "Graal: \\<servername>"

That has to be done by you, sadly. Unless he outputs the text for you and appends the data into it(like an image host would).

That's actually pretty simple to do. Ideally it would link to a PHP script like http://coreymedia.com/graal/server.php?acc=cbk1994 which would redirect to a Graal link:

PHP Code:

header('Location: graal://' $server); // looking up the player's server of course

Also, wondering if you (coreys) can provide the source for the status image generator (or at least the part regarding the fetching of the player's status on Graal).

Done ;)

Just embed the original graal status php link inside a url link to http://coreymedia.com/graal/serverwarp.php?account=acc

http://coreymedia.com/graal/graalstatus.php?source

You can do the same for serverwarp.php. The original is mostly done by Polkilty and Maniaman (the one on the Maloria website), then I went in and added the background image part.
