That doesnt mean we should go back to that time levelwise and this thread isnt about you post trying to say how superior one time of classic was. Classic isnt classic bc of the levels in my mind. Ofcourse some buildings have some importance as burger, bank, castle and so on. The list for me isn't that long. I would rather have some buildings and levels kept as a memory of the classic levels and the rest made fresh and new in the spirit of classic with quests, sparring, pking and a good community as the base.

What is the purpose of this thread in your opinion? What should we discuss?

The restoration of the old content is in my opinion the best option the management could take.
Since the current staff claims converting everything is impossible/would take too long (as has been claimed since 2005), I also recommend taking down the NPC server in order to make the process simpler.

Pelikano 07-02-2009 08:49 PM

wtf why da **** are signs serverside oO

While playing the same quests back from old main or from Graal the Adventure would be a great walk down memory lane for some of us, it's not going to cut it as a server today. The reason people played back then was because there was a large community to interact with. If all the old quests got uploaded, people would probably come play them and just get bored, because there is nothing to keep them wanting to play the server.

Classic should keep some of the old quests, but it needs to be more then what it was 8-9 years ago.

The idea isnt to convert everything. I think you are a bad reader. For you it sounds like it's your idea or the impossible one.

And taking the npc server down isnt an option so i don't know why you keep posting the same lines. Maybe if you bought graal from stefan, do that.

I know the idea isn't to convert everything, I'm saying it's what should have been done.

Taking down the NPC server is an option, but it's an option that requires the authorization of Stefan.
It doesn't make the solution invalid or irrational, it just means that, if refused, the fault doesn't lie entirely with the server management.

It depends on the will of the management and Stefan.

From a player perspective it doesn't really matter who has to authorize it.

As long as it's technically possible (Stefan can authorize it, but he apparentaly won't), it's an option. It's just not entirely in the management's hands.

I dont know why you keep posting the impossible. I think most people agree that a fresh start is what we need with some old and many new quests, some old levels and many new levels that actually matter and dont just fill up space.

I'm not posting the impossible, it's all in Stefan's hands (if the management would be willing to go in this direction).

I don't think most people would like a completely fresh start, and I'm sure many agree with my idea, even though they don't post here/are gone from Graal.
A fresh start would turn Classic into just another under-construction playerworld. How many of these actually reach the Classic server list?

We are in this position because there never was any "under construction". Well now is the chance to actually do something. Everyone knows it will take months, most likely years to get classic up again, that is if people work, if not it will just get removed. Who cares about other sucky servers, that's not what we're discussing.

A lot ppl like you are stuck in the past, just like the old ppl in their homes telling stories about the past when they were kids and everything where better. Focusing on the past will do us nothing, waiting and waiting for stefan to remove the npc server is not a way to go either. Hoping that some players that quit will go back bc their childhood game got restored to its original form is nothing to strive for.

We are in this position because most of the old content was taken down with the implementation of the NPC server, and lack of staff consistency.
If Classic will be removed and turned into just another playerworld, its chance of ever coming back is quite slim. Even if it does, the entire community would probably be gone by then.
As far as I'm concerned, the server could be completely restored within a few days/weeks if the NPC-server is taken down.

Also, do note that one of the advantages of the old server was that a large amount of the content was contributed by regular players (as in not by LATs), which added some kind of unique personal touch. This cannot be achieved again if the server is hidden from the players.

I'm stuck in the past because I prefer the old content over the new crap? Do you resort to insults because you lack valid arguments against my solution?

Plenty of players still like playing their favourite old games, which are considered technologically inferior.
The old content would probably attract plenty of new players as well, as it would differentiate the server from the rest of the "modern" playerworlds.

Nelm 07-03-2009 12:42 PM

I'm actually with Minoc here guys. I know Stefan isn't going to take the NPC server down, but starting from scratch will more than likely kill Classic.

I mean, seriously, people didn't want to work for classic when there was a somewhat stable base to work upon. What makes you think scraping everything and starting over is going to change anything. And if you are going to do that, don't name it Classic, because it won't be anymore.

trifle 07-03-2009 01:34 PM

I'd like a fresh start, but some things should still be used on a new classic server, like AC, Burger Refuge, Zols bup etc, orelse the name classic isn't worth it's name.

BlackSolider 07-03-2009 03:04 PM

Ok, look.

Whether or not brining back the old levels is the best thing to do for classic or not (granted they are in all likely hood better than anything classic has now,) from what I've read it is statistically highly unlikely that the npc server will come down. I don't know about you, but I'm a person that plays the odds, and odds are that isn't going to happen.

Since that isn't going to happen in all likelyhood, we need to look at our other options. The most logical and realistic option is to cut the server down to a manageable size and build from there. I don't think this project will take till 2010 if we do it correctly. The issue is finding the direction for the server within the next few weeks, then moving towards it.

Stop arguing that "it's up to stefan" or that "all you want is your nostalgic classic back"; this kind of back and forth bickering is not going to bring classic back any faster.

You: classic before = many players. Solution = bring back the same classic.

Sorry but that wont happen since none of your arguments holds. All you say is how great it was, and having a solution that involves taking down the NPC-server. If you put your energy helping to manage the development into the mix of old and new content you might be able to help instead of wishing the NPC server were gone. You can't say something will suck if you havn't seen it. Fact is if they manage to release some form of classic, you'll most likely hate it. So why not be a part of the development and do something that actually changes stuff instead of *****ing the impossible trying to get your childhood memories back.

I guess everyone is free to contact Thor if they want to help.

Grow up kid, if you cannot avoid insulting me and ridiculing my motivation or provide your arguments in a mature manner please refain from responding to my posts.

As I already mentioned, I prefer the old server mostly because it was built around a concept which I believe was superior, and not just because it had "many players".
Also, there is of course a high nostalgic value in the old levels, but I am not trying to "get my childhood memories back".

Do note that if the NPC server is taken down the server could be almost completed within a very short amount of time. This seems like a more ideal solution than taking it down, with a very slim chance of it coming back (especially if it'll be subject to an objective PWA review).

I have no intention to waste my time aiding the development of the server.
Regardless, why should I support\help a management I have no faith in which I believe is heading in the wrong direction?

My point is that the NPC server should be taken down in order to be able to upload the old levels without converting them.

Truth hurts I guess.

Nothing says that cant be accomplished that again, problably times 2.

Now you dream about the NPC server being gone again. Instead of posting your christmas wishes here, call Stefan maybe? Who knows if enough people bugg him maybe he will consider it.

Maybe that's the glorious part, if you help some of your ideas will most likely be implanted. If you stay here focusing on the NPC-removal you wont gain a thing. Don't get me wrong, I rather not see you help out. It's mostly for you.

You keep saying Minoc is 'Dreaming' when really Zack, it is you who is dreaming. It doesn't matter how many people talked to Stefan, he will NEVER take the NPCs-Server down. Since he will not take the NPCs-Server down we can give up on any hope the last shreds of the server actually going anywhere. Classic's success is in it's past and was murdered by the NPCs-Server with assistance from our beloved Master Storm. The only way the server can go anywhere again, or get back to where it once was, is to revive all of that old content, which unfortunately, can't be done. Now that people watched the conversion project fail due to the overall failure in management we saw previous to the past 5 years, I guess we should have given up then.

I never said he would, why would I be dreaming if i dont think he will do it. I said that so Minoc would do something in what he believes instead of writing the impossible here.

I don't think you understood what i wrote.

Sad that you believe that. I'm not saying classic will be up and running again, but there's a small probability it will in a new form. So give it up then, no one tells you to stay. Some people will try to develop, no one tells you to have hope.
