I agree , it may not be a true reflection of the person at all; just someone who has alot of friends, but it is a step in the right direction... But maturity and responsiblity cannot be measured by popular vote... this after all is a business and not just a game to anyone on Staff or should be , a true reflection would be how they handle the responsiblity they now have and set an example by what they do , not on how many people like them on these Boards. See how the interact with the Staff and players on the PW they now work on or Graal Staff they now work with , to me you would want a person who not only sometimes does what they should but ALWAYS.
Be an example to all they come in touch with and always have the best interest of Graal in mind , to ask "what can I do for Graal ?" Not what will Graal give me....Those who want to be first must first be last....

If your not known then no votes.
If everyone knows you, you roll in the big money.

Look at mine I don't have any why? because I am a 46 year old man that runs a Player World and not in the "group" even though I have helped many anytime I was asked to when they needed my help with their PW , but I don't worry about that , it is enough satisfaction to me just to be able to help them and am not looking for any pay back...Just a better Graal for all is enough for me...

Judge_Spunky 05-15-2002 06:40 AM

I personally don't think the votes should have any impact on the decision of hiring or firing staff. As it is said before, this can easily be swayed to work in a person's favor, and easily to work wrongly against someone.
Not everyone is going to like someone (Except perhaps Stefan ;)) and there will always be differences. I could have a friend that is considered a loner, and keeps to him or herself. They certainly won't get many, if any votes. Then again, if I turn around, I could see another friend that prys in conflicts, to get the sides agitated, and other people could easily find that funny. Therfore, people would like him, and perhaps vote for him.

This will almost guarunteed turn out to be a popularity contest. This is not to say that I am against this system, but I just think it should be added to add some pzazz(sp?) to the boards, not to have any influence for hiring and firing, and such.

Anyways, just my two cents.

AlexH 05-15-2002 06:46 AM

It be nice if we could see our avarage rating below the bar.

Darlene159 05-15-2002 06:47 AM

lol, I cant wait to be able to see who voted, someone dont like me (big suprise)
I agree that this will only be a popularity thing to see who is most liked and disliked, not who is more suitable as staff members, half of the graalians just cant help but to abuse things :(

CuteKitty 05-15-2002 06:52 AM

:-p

I bet NOONE knows me on here.. I'm just a little person compared to all of youz!! :-p I'm moonie's and moon god's daughter hehe. :-p Vote 4 me too.. Just be honest! If you don't know me plz don't vote. :-p see yaz! :megaeek:

AlexH 05-15-2002 07:05 AM

I suppose it gives us other buttons and options to tinker with so....:)
There is no doubt that it will be abused and cheated *looks at Googi* but I suppose that was expected.

galen 05-15-2002 07:06 AM

Just putting in my 2c. I only read page 1 and what I'm about to say has probably already been discussed to death but I don't care so nyh.

IThis whole points gig has merit, but I can see peoplpe getitng all their firends to vote for them and before we know it there's some guy out there with 200 votes and he's make a horrable addition to the staff; while others will have maybe 30 votes and would be wonderful staff.

Thats my 2c.

<edit>I had no votes *snif* so I voted for myself :P </edit>

I'm not trying to abuse and cheat the system, well, maybe I am, but that is only a side-effect, what I am really trying to do is trying to prove that the system can be cheated.

DeathChill 05-15-2002 07:25 AM

mleh..Doesn't make sense to me as anyone can get someone to click a button to vote for them, or give them a bad rating because they dislike them, even though they'd be good at whatever.bleh but might work

I don't think that staff positions should be based solely on ratings alone. Like many of the people who posted before me have pointed out, it can be abused. It could be used as a factor to see if the player is generally liked, but I wouldn't have applicants for staff positions judged entirely on their forum rating.

2 votes for FAQ.. not even 20 is enough. you have to have some knowledge of the quests, not just getting some votes

Exactly.. like...

Person1: Hey vote for me on the boards and I'll give you 3 gralat.
Person2: Ok and you vote for me to.
Person3: Money? I'll vote for all of you.
Person4: I'm giving everyone I see 0's.
Person5. I'm giving everyone I see 5's.

2 points, not votes. Go read unixmad's post again.
*is sad because there is so much red and yellow stuff in his rating*
...
*realizes he doesn't care, and goes back playing UO*

Since a few days i was trying to find solutions for managing staff.

It's hard for Stefan and Me to known who can be trusted or not and who the community would like to see in the staff.

I have found 2 solutions:

1) Each user will have a rating, this rating is based on what others think of you, to be valid this rating will need a minimum of 10 peoples to give opinion on you. (If you don't want to be rated, it's possible, just go on your options and disable rating)

2) I am programming a point system, This system will allow high staff to give point to staff that have done good work.

Then the idea is to give staff positions to peoples that have a good rating and have a minimum of point allocated

For example if you want to be :

· FAQ you will need 3 points
· Event Admin you will need 2
· …

Tell me what you think of this.

Unix.

Great idea!

Galen is correct about the whole thing.......It's all about who you know and what not......anyhow it could work then again as everyone who has doubts has the same doubts that this will more than likely be abused......

As people before me have said, we'll see .........but I'm not a big fan of 13 year olds running a game, then again graal has seen it before and every step forward has been a step backwards.......I wasn't perfect but I tried, and constantly was argued with but hey, we'll see how this turns out, and then again, graal should have admins with specifications....meaning they are supposed to do "this" only and thats that, when it's not defined, it gets broad and people start to do things they shouldn't or aren't aware that they can do it, anyhow most of staff have been guility of this, not saying I was free from it then again I attempt to learn from my mistakes, even if it doesn't show to be done so......

Snappledragon 05-16-2002 04:47 AM

how about only current staff can vote for people

Hey Nem did you even read what I posted????

I read it after and didn't want to edit my post on it. But as you are correct as well.......The fact is Graal needs people to put all personal feelings aside and do the right thing, hire the RIGHT people not someone because they are a friend it's because they do the job well. Basically those who are hated either do their job and do it well, or they are "corrupt" as people like to through around and half can't even begin to describe corruption....

For example, DeathChill is one of the best graal admins graal has had.....You tell him the rules and good luck trying to get him to sway away from the rules......He does his job and does it well, whether you love him or hate him, it doesn't matter because he gets the job done 9 times out of 10, everyone is not perfect, yet everyone will dislike a lot of ideas. What I think is this voting could work yet maturity is needed not about who's friends with whom, and who's done what for whomever.

Anyhow thats how I see things......Moon God makes excellent points......but can't say "you have to be this age to be staff" yet on the other hand you have to draw a line somewhere......13-15 year olds barely can get jobs at any places, unless they are lucky enough, and I'm not talking about working for a friend, babysitting, etc, talking about real jobs......where you join the workforce, without getting in through family ties or friend ties.......Just somewhere a line has to be drawn and the best people are chosen from there........Restrictions and rules must be in place otherwise you get some guy who just wants to be staff to mess up graal.....yet i know a few people who are out to do so, it'll be funny to watch if they get picked too......

haha, nemesis has 0 AP.

Googi 05-16-2002 09:00 AM

Odam, I might lose my FAQ job then x_x, but really, why would how much people like you (and as we have seen, ratings are not even influenced by people liking you very much), have to do with being FAQ.

Googi 05-16-2002 09:27 AM

Haha, I just found out you can disable your rating in the option menu :D

Nemesis 05-16-2002 09:56 AM

Being liked and whatever has nothing to do with how well someone does the job vs. another. It's all about drive and passion and not for personal gain. People I see, are in it for the power, getting RC access, whining about different stuff, yet people will follow others no matter what.......

I'm saying that a new way to pick staff is needed, with a restriction and rules, also clearly explained job titles, so EVERYONE knows what this person can or cannot do, and does not complain about things being done or not being done because someone has the power to do so.........

Then again being staff is not a popularity contest, your drive is to do the best job you can within your stay on graal, not to see how many people you can be friends with and start a whole "I love So so club because he's 1337" stupid stuff like that.....

Person doesn't have to be liked, just respected......I may not like a lot of people but I do respect what they've done for graal and I'd hope they'd not let other things get in the way and be happy that they are making graal a better place for everyone......Isn't that why there is staff?

Attempt to make graal better for everyone? Rules and restrictions are needed, to make graal a better place.....then again it's my point of view......

Never saw this thread.. my opinion about it..

horrible idea, just completly horrible.

Warcaptain 05-16-2002 11:24 AM

i kinda disagree with this.

man alot of people get on graal to escape the popularity contest of real life.

and now we gotta face it online?
thats not right.

yet im open to new things, and it could work out great, though I feel corruption coming.
