how did you pull that off when you weren't playing him?

DarkCloud_PK 09-14-2009 08:10 AM

haha the packers best QB today was cutler
pro bowl QB throwing 4 INTs(3 in the first half).

i bet one of you took cutler and are crying.

also mystic, brees made the lions look like a high school team
hope you enjoy your home team going 0-16 again, almost as bad as the browns.

6TDs for Brees, did anyone take him, smart move

Also I think Unknownsoldier is going to defeat me this week even though there is just 2.60pts between us. Go Chargers and Owens.

gl next week mystic

DarkCloud_PK 09-14-2009 07:37 PM

Kind of makes me wish I got into Fantasy.

However: Brees, AP, Jennings, NE and NO rec's, and the Packers(Read: Dom Caper's) Defense, these should pan out well for those who have them. For this coming week aswell, except for Jennings, I don't see him being as dominating as some of the other WR's this week, but he should have a big game regardless.

Interesting News:
Urlacher's injury on his wrist has offically been ruled as him being out for the season. He is a leader on that defense despite his lessened dominance as a LB. This will hurt the Bears defense a lot and this will be the last thing to knock them out of the NFC North race.

Next Week Picks:

HOU @ TEN
Titans:
No brainer.

MIN @ DET
Vikings:
A team trying to rebuild will simply not be able to handle both AP stacking the box for Favre to PA pass, as well as the Williams wall. Stafford will be a little cleaner this game and their offensive unit in general will look better, but AP will control the ball and clock, so rarely will the Lions see the field on offense.

CAR @ ATL
Falcons:
Should be fairly close, but Ryan and the offense should grab the W with this one.

NO @ PHI
Saints:
A hurt McNabb + Vick will not be able to outgun Drew Brees. A shootout that the Eagles will lose ground as the game goes on. Could be a 3 score game by the 4th.

ARI @ JAC
Arizona:
Kurt and the offense should be able to clean up their play enough from last week to drop the Jags.

OAK @ KC
Chiefs:SD should dampen the Raiders spirits this Monday to where the Chiefs can pull off a win in a game that noone cares about, neither team will be seeing a playoff game by a longshot.

CIN @ GB
Packers: Palmer got dismantled this week, despite the weapons he has. The pressure got to him, and it will get to him more vs the new Capers defense. There will be a ton more pressure this game, than they got from Denver's defense. Rodgers and Grant should also have an easier time with the Bengal's defense than with the Bears, especially if they can fix Barbre or replace him. He allowed the DEs to get to Rodgers with not even a break in their step.

NE @ NYJ
Patriots: Sanchez is going to be a star, explosive rookie start, and his rookie mistakes will fade as the season goes on. If this were later in the year, I would go for the upset NYJ pick, Sanchez would have improved through experience, and Brady's injured knee will start to wear him(and his game) down the more he goes down. It's too early in the for the Jets to win this.

STL @ WAS
Skins:: Don't worry Mystic, the Rams will surely be the most likely team to be the new 0-16. Rams are terrible, Skins will be able to get some momentum off this team for the season down the road.

TB @ BUF
Bucs: Lost to a simply higher caliber Dallas team but managed tonot get destroyed. This one will be close, comes down to who plays worse, The Bills' O-Line, preventing the famed T.O. from getting the ball, or the TB Def, who let Romo get away with a record career yards in a game. Interesting game but I don't see that O-Line protecting Edwards next week, one of the worst lines in the leauge atm.

SEA @ SF
Niners:
Sure, the Seahawks shut out the Rams, but it's the Rams, Hasselbacks stats weren't that spectacular for a shutout, especially with two INTs. Hasselbeck will let the W cloud the fact that he needs to clean up his game, and the Niners pumped up defense after their upset this week, should be able to keep the Seahawks offense down enough to get a close win.

BAL @ SD
Chargers?: Hard to tell until we see what the Chargers show tonight.
They have the talent but the Ravens showed the same this week, Flacco will be a threat. Assuming Rivers and LT live up to their talent tonight, I see this being a shootout with the Chargers ultimately having the final say. I reserve to change this if Rivers/LT don't show their talent tonight.

CLE @ DEN
Browns:
Orton needs work, the one big play he gets, and its has nothing to do with him, just luck of the tip and the reciever having the awareness to grab the winning TD off it. The Browns showed a impressive attack against a much favored Vikings and should show a better one against a Denver defense.

PIT @ CHI
Steelers:
Cutler shows he makes bad plays when hes getting harassed, throwing 3 INTs in the first half and many interceptable passes in that same half. Only looked good when he calmed down in halftime and got some drives going, being calm and relaxed in the pocket. Then Rodgers and Jennings hitting the winning TD catch set Cutler off enough to throw his last pick to Harris to end the game. He'll see the same thing vs the Steelers, pressure.
I just don't think, being at home with everyone(team, city, himeself) being disappointed, that he will be calm this game. Lovie Smith will probably be working on his ST's play more than he should, after the Bears hilarious 4th and 15~? fake punt run against the strong Packers D, just to try to get a shot at a 5 yard 12th man penalty that wouldnt change a thing. PIT should capitalize on that and try to flush Cutler out of the pocket and pick him off on errant throws. Not 4, but the Steelers offense should seal it up.

NYG @ DAL
[Cowboys]:
Hard to call, explosive offense of the Cowboys vs the tough D of the Giants. Manning won't win the QB war unless Romo gets dismantled in pressure, which I don't see happening with Barber rushing Plus, this early in the season, Romo shines.

IND @ MIA
[Colts]:
Peyton shouldn't have a problem outplaying Pennington, might get close but I don't see the Phins doing anything remarkable enough to outscore Manning.
Some playoff picks and SB Picks:
Gonna do 2 teams for each conference for SB after studying some schedules.

AFC Conference Champs:
North:
Ravens(11-5)

East:
Pats(13-3)/(12-4) i'm spilt on a couple games, and I don't see them beating NO.

South:
Colts(10-6) T
Titans(10-6) T

West:
Chargers(12-4)

NFC Conf. Champs:
North:
Packers(11-5)
Vikings(10-6)
North will be close between these two, the Bears are out of the mix.
Urlachers done, Lovie's legendary special teams look bad, Cutler isn't providing yet.

East:
Eagles(10-6)T
Giants(10-6)T
Maybe if Romo shows he can perform in the late season, they'd be up up there.
I'll probably do all the teams record predictions later, this is fun going through schedules.

South:
Saints(11-5)/(12-4)
I want to see where the defense goes here.
For this division, theres going to be one team right
on the Saints' tail.

Falcons(10-6)

W(orst)est:
Cards(9-7)T
49ers(9-7)T
maybe Seattle in the mix but I don't see Hasselbeck improving during the season.
All the hits and injuries have added up for a declining season for him this year.
Anyway, the NFC West isn't going to make it anywhere past this, so who cares.

SB:
NFC:
Packers or Saints

AFC:
Pats or Chargers

Beyond that, trying to predict that late this early is just a toss in the air.
Anyone can play the LOL BRADY WINS SB card but you never know how the season will go, or if Brady is back at the top of his game.

DarkCloud_PK 09-14-2009 07:56 PM

btw I picked W1 a week ago and put it in a txt file with the winner and then the
situation with how they will win(close/blowout/decent/upset/etc...)

Picks W1
TEN Close
Wrong team, but still close. Big Ben needs to be on his best game all of the time, not just the last minutes of things in order to have a shot at returning to the superbowl. The AFC is tougher now, #1 problem being that Brady is back, and looking to start where he left off. Ravens also look good this season. Chargers have the talent. Titans are contenders if they can improve in the season.

NO Blowout LOL
Yep.

NYJ Close
I saw the Jets winning, but I didn't expect Sanchez to put up that much of a performance, eh.

ATL Decent
:fro:

CIN Decent
I was wrong, I thought the Bengals would have had an offense in this game. Doesn't help Orton got lucky.

MIN Decent
:fro:

IND Decent/Blowout
Thought Manning would get a bigger W than this, against the Jags especially.

DAL Decent
:fro:

PHI Close/Decent
Delhomme and Cutler related?

BAL Good
:fro:

SF Close/Upset
Nailed this one, I didn't think Ari's WR would be able to play at the level they are paid to. :fro: :fro: :fro:

SEA Decent/Blowout Barely
Another good call, on one hand, I don't have that much confidence in Hasselbeck, despite popular opinion. However everyone knows the Rams are the new Lions

NYG Decent/ Blowout
They won, but I expected better play from Eli and crew, not the D winning it for them.

GB Decent
GB was the favorite. Noone saw the game that happened there. All the predictions were Rodgers/Cutler shootouts with Rodgers edging the crappy Bears secondary(why didn't Vasher get cut?). However the underrated defense made this a low scoring nail biter. Better game to watch in the end.

NO Decent
Would have gone blowout, but I knew the Lions would put 150 PERCENT(how many years and you still cant fix the damn percent sign?) into this. Given that it would be a miracle for the Lions to pull off the W, even with Brees's 6 TDs, they got it closer than it could have been. If the Saints improve on defense throughout the season, I can easily see them as the NFC's team in the SB

Yeah I thought about that Vick thing late.
McNabb is going to be playing with a broken rib.
They will only have a shot to win if they can get a running game going early
and keep it going and somehow slow down Brees, once the Eagles have to play from behind, its done. McNabb will be forced to pass with that broken rib a ton.

If I were the Eagles I would put in Kolb as soon as McNabb starts flatlining.
One of his qualities is that McNabb has a gun, and every time he fires hard or long, his broken rib will feel that.

Broncos didn't show anything what they should have vs a Bengals D this week. The Browns put up a lot of good plays against a team they were going to lose to anyway, they are out of AP's caliber. I like the Brown's running game to get things going for them early, so they can ease someone like Quinn into a decent run->pass offense. The Browns have some up and coming weapons, you just didn't notice because they were playing an arguably SB capable team. While an upset pick, it would be easier to see the Brown's potential if they started off with someone like STL, where they could have dominated.

Edit: Keep in mind, that Orton and the o-Line didn't have all too fantastic of a game. Run game was mediocre.
Orton had good stats, but you have to keep in mind, a large chunk of yardage of his pass yards were from that game winning throw, where that pass was actually a terrible throw. That could have just have easily been a pick(against a better D, it would have been too), he got lucky when the tip, to all of places, went to another WR who had the awareness to grab it and know it was still live. Orton and team will be too high on the W and making that game winning bomb, to really capitalize on the fact that it was a bad throw that got a ton of luck on it.

The eagles definitely need to rush way more, they would be way more effective even without McNabb.

Honestly i might have the Browns over the Broncos if the Broncs were @ Cleveland, mainly cause they aren't good on the road. But they're home so i still have them over the browns. :D

Yes, they do, especially when they have Westbrook. Westbrook needs to be more involved. He had great hands too, so you can do short passes from the backfield or LoS and have him use his speed and elusiveness to make a great play.

However, the Saints will most likely start off with a decent early lead in the 1st half, I'd say 2 scores worth. This means you have to keep the clock stopped and that means you have to throw it, can't win from behind with a run game effectively. If they get in that situation, I would do short passes, especially to Westbrook, near the sidelines, managing the clock well. That was you can have your backup QB do the short passing with less worries of rookies making game losing mistakes. In the end, they just wont be able to outscore Brees.

The crowd will have an impact, though if Orton doesnt start off well, I can see them going silent. The Browns are very young team though, and AFAIK, rookies are too adrenaline charged and pumped up from getting playing time in the NFL that the crowd just seems to be background noise for them, they are way too concentrated on trying to keep their jobs and making a name for themselves, where vets already did that. You can see that in vet QBs like Warner and Favre, both react to the crowd strongly.

Edit: I have to digress on the crowd though. The crowds reception of Orton will also depend on Cutlers success/failure. The more Cutler fails, the more the crowd will be behind Orton. Cutler proved he can't take pressure well, and next week he sets up vs the Steelers...
Its a home game for the Bears too, but I don't think Cutler will get such a warm welcome now, making a fool of himself vs their worst rivals.

the Patriots escape a loss to the Buffalo Bills on a single mistake. I don't think there was anything for the Patriot's to be excited about tonight.

jorollychu 09-15-2009 05:00 AM

looks like the raiders will be going to the super bowl

BlackSolider 09-15-2009 04:03 PM

Pats got lucky. Brady looked mortal for the first time (outside of getting injured) for the first time in a long time. His accuracy just wasn't there in some of the early throws. I didn't watch the second half but the Pats are going to be so-so early on until Brady starts getting back in the groove of things late in the year. The Pat's D is definately rebuilding right now, so calling the Pats a SB "lock" is far-fetched at this point.

Honestly if the Ravens had some better WRs, I'd call them one of the favorites in the AFC despite the loss of Bart Scott and Rex Ryan. Flacco can only get better, the O-line and RBs are above average, and the D is still tough.

My SB picks:

NFC: Falcons or Cowboys
AFC: Ravens or Chargers

Yes, I'm a homer. But the Boys have three solid RBs, the best TE in the league, and a solid D. If Romo can finally not duck it up in december, the Boys will not only win their first playoff game in over a decade, they might just win it all! Besides, the last time the Cowboys opened a new stadium (71,) they won the super bowl. Have you seen the new stadium? It's epicly awesome. The scoreboard is like 70 yards long. And yes, I've been in there for a game (specifically, my old high school was playing in the first HS game in the new stadium.)

Falcons O might be the best in the league if turner can produce like he did last year, and if "Matty Ice" continues to improve on his impressive rookie season. The D is still a question, but if the falcons can control the clock and keep things from a shootout (might be tough against the Saints,) they are definately a tough team.

Ravens I've talked about earlier. Chargers are always up-n-down during the season, but turn it on for the playoffs. If they can get a consistent running game, and the D continues to get pressure (with Merriman coming back,) they can easily make another run like last year.

Those are my thoughts. The Giants have a great D but the WRs suck and Eli has more 3+ int games than Jay Cutler + Jake Delhomme combined (for now.) The Eagles O-line is still banged up, as is McNabb. Garcia could keep the team in contention (assuming he plays eventually, as they just signed him,) but I just hate the eagles too much to pick them.

You analyze sports like those douchebags on espn. All you needed to do was throw in the word "intangibles" a few times and you're in.

It's week one. Start talking about teams that look good enough to make it to the superbowl around week 6-7.

It's always nice to make some early predictions so you can look back and judge how (in)accurate you were. As for the ESPN comment, I do watch it quite a bit so I'm not surprised. TBH wouldn't be a bad job to have...

Crimson2005 09-18-2009 06:26 PM

My star player may not feature against the Ravens this weekend after missing 2 consecutive practices. Just gets worse for me :(

BigBear3 09-19-2009 01:35 AM

Somebody post the standings, I'm too lazy to check and then other people can see who's winning.

Eee... 11th place. I forgot to take out Berrian last week and Mason and Marshall sucked. Brees is the only reason I'm not dead last.

BlackSolider 09-19-2009 03:31 AM

It's week two, so half the teams are 1-0 and half are 0-1. Standings are fairly useless until after week 3 or so, but I'll post em here if I remember.
