I'd say the reputation system is pretty accurate at this point, but needs some fine tuning.

DustyPorViva 08-14-2008 06:22 PM

Ya. Problem is it's not very 'detailed'. You either have a red bar or a green bar... very few have more than one green bar. So it's either 'good', or 'bad'. Almost everyone who is not bad is basically on the same scale.

The threshold for those bars needs to seriously be reconsidered, and not just 'fixed' so Stefan can get two bars when he wants to.

Yeah, like the whole 4000 posts/1000 reppoints system to get one more point of rep power.

Yeah, like that's ever going to happen.

Should be every 200 or 250 rep points = +1 rep

DustyPorViva 08-14-2008 09:58 PM

Every 100 points.

Well, the point is to not have it too unbalanced. I think 100 points might be slightly bit too much. Should be pretty hard to get +1 more rep, otherwise eventually we'll have people handing out 20 rep points which is ridiculous. 20 rep points wouldn't be that bad, but it would be highly unbalanced, since regular members would only be giving 1-3 rep points.

Look how hard it is to get over 100 points.

There is no reason time should be a more important factor in reputation power than actual reputation. An inactive member with 5 points of reputation can come back(who had an account from back in 2001), and have a reputation power of 7. For doing absolutely nothing. Bob, however, could have 200 reputation points for being an outstanding member of the community, but be created last year, and have what... like 2-3 reputation points?

I guess you have a good point, I just worry about the POWER REP people who would basically control the reps (people who are "outstanding" and registered in 2001-2002).

Jeeze. Just get it over with and remove this stupid feature. It isn't a representation of anything accurate. The community is small enough to know who is or isn't a "positive or negative" person, without needing a colour coded system! Moreover, it'd give people one less thing to complain about (which isn't the reason to remove it, just a supporting factor).

I actually agree with this.

Those people would be far and few between... but perhaps we need more people who can give some higher rep so everyone isn't stuck under 50 or so. It would suck to be neg repped by them though.

Of course you do. Your reputation is telling new people that you aren't so cool around here.

And I happen to have an IQ of two thousand and five, not that I feel any need to affirm my superiority to the residents of an Internet forum or anything.

I would at least agree with this, instead of moving it.

On a forum I use, I have 7 green (the latter of which is bright green) which is next level on top of normal green. After that there is yellow, and also another way to add the amount of bars - so it goes on for a long time yet. So there is no danger setting the threshhold for new bars lower.

Unpredlctable 08-17-2008 11:10 PM

i have fifteen gemsss

Elizabeth 08-17-2008 11:12 PM

excaliber7388 08-18-2008 01:38 AM

-22, baby.
Although my last 5 reps are either positive, or neutral.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 02:02 AM

whats also annoying is "spread some rep around before giving it to this person again!"

Why? It keeps people from spamming rep to one person

Yeah, that needs to stay.
At least a 5 person buffer.

I do agree that 1 rep per day is too little though.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 02:09 AM

I'm still waiting to be able to negrep you again for a post you made like two weeks ago because it was one of the dumbest things I had ever read. After giving rep to different people every day, I still need to "spread rep".
So, what is it, like, fifty people in between?

It would be cool if you could spread your rep around to a number of people, and you get to choose just how much goes to each person.

For example, say I have 6 rep power, I could choose to give 4 to one person, and 2 to another. ;x

Unpredlctable 08-26-2008 11:28 PM

so hot how someone negrepped me for my last post and didn't leave a name, gj

that would be neat but i don't think that'd be possible or at least easy to get working
