Cool PKT, great update on the cliffs btw Dusty.
You should add stones that look breakable like Zelda's bombable cave entrances.

I made a little 3d thing out of it, hope it's ok.

That is what Graal 3D SHOULD look like.

I probably will add that later on.

Here's some actual cliffing in action! For those with virgin eyes, turn away now!
There is actually an update, if you can't tell. I edited the diagonals, made them a little lighter, and I think it fits a lot better now.

There are some tiling issues, really only on the large cliffs... but I should note I still have a few more diagonal tiles to use up that will take care of that problem.

Shakram 05-29-2008 02:15 PM

in my eyes the whole thing would be cooler with a little bit more saturation :O
this lesser saturated tiles looks so lifeless :)

Thanks for the comments about the 3d thing.

With the saturation, I am not sure, I sort of like the flat green. And the bench looks better imo.
Maybe the Baddie would look better with a flat(er) skin color?
Not sure.
Looks really nice so far Dusty.
If any color correction at all, I would suggest a photo filter, it's a magic filter, hehe.
Though it's not really nessecary, since I allready like the current colors.

Tileset I've been working on during my free time. The bridge isn't complete yet and I'm not happy with the troughs of grass, so I'll probably redo them.

It is pics1 format.

edit: fixed the thick grass

Love the tile set so far XD

Not sure which is the original, but I prefer the one on the right - although the bench is sort of high contrast.

DustyPorViva 05-29-2008 11:18 PM

I definitely like the saturation edit... though I'm working off the current colors of pics1. If I do a recolor it'll be when I'm done the tileset as a whole, most likely.

Robin 05-29-2008 11:26 PM

When will tileset be done? Looks amazing :)

Small update. The cliffs are getting there!
As for an ETA... not anytime soon! :P

cbk1994 05-30-2008 02:51 AM

The cliffs fail to show depth well, in my opinion. Besides that, awesome!

Stephen 05-30-2008 02:54 AM

I'm not sure why the chimney has to be vertical rather than horizontal, but horizontal may make this nasty symmetry a little more ease for you.

DustyPorViva 05-30-2008 02:59 AM

Eh, I just kind of 'updated' the default Graal chimney's, which were already vertical.

As for cliffs failing to show depth... I honestly don't know what you mean there.
They have to be tileable, thus they can't really be darker at the bottom and lighter at the top(which I'm assuming is what you're wanting). Otherwise, I think they go back more towards Zelda's style of depth, in which the cliffs look much more like objects rather than flat surfaces, due to the way the darken as you go around.

TheFisherman 05-30-2008 03:59 AM

this is looking great, I can't wait until it's finished!

Shakram 05-30-2008 02:16 PM

the cliffs only need a shadow like on my screen to show depth :O
but one other thing... isnt this part on the door wrong ?
http://home.graffiti.net/chrischi4u/doorthing1.png

i did a small edit ^^

Lovely

Darklux 05-30-2008 04:10 PM

I like your tiles dusty, a good compromise between arca and classic style.
Colorwise, I like both versions.

Shadows will be cast to the rear of the cliffs, though. Hence why they haven't been added yet, as there are no rear of the cliffs :P

Galdor 05-30-2008 05:45 PM

a server like this in 3d would be so cool, with like orthographic view and fixed camera so it looks just like the normal 2d servers but would have like real shadows on the objects and other flashy stuff.
or maybe perspective view would be flashier tho, for like rotation of the camera and stuff xP

DustyPorViva 05-30-2008 05:57 PM

That's what I wanted to do with a 3D server.
Basically, it'd be like what Pokemon Diamond and Pearl did. Oh, and Zelda: PH I guess too... I think it'd be cool as hell.

Shakram 05-30-2008 07:06 PM

yeah bird's eye perspective would be cool for graal 3D :O

Well I think the cliffs are done. Well, the huge chunk of just getting the actual tiles done. All I have to do is fix up random bits of floating cliff tiles. I was kind of sloppy with the last of them, but I think it's good enough. I'm tired of seeing brown.

Hot.

TheFisherman 05-30-2008 09:20 PM

Cool! Yeah a server like PH would be so sweet!
Dusty can those tiles be stacked to be even higher cliffs?

Ya. They don't tile perfectly though... it's something I'm trying to fix.

cbk1994 05-31-2008 12:08 AM

Nice! :)

Well, I'm done the cliffs. I've attached a little screenshot that shows it going back and forth between pics1 and my tileset. Right now, the conversion isn't perfect, but I think it would be good enough... though, these problems don't really exist if you make levels with my tileset from scratch instead of converting. I just didn't want to make it where converting would leave you with tons of useless levels.

The higher cliffs don't look that great, but admittedly I never liked higher cliffs that much anyways. They never really looked right.

cbk1994 05-31-2008 08:01 AM

Still looks much too flat.

TheFisherman 05-31-2008 08:42 AM

Doesn't look flat to me, but I can see the grid on the sides of the cliffs, but you probably already knew that. Just wondering, are you going to add tall grass?

The tileset permits for a few different variations for the sides. I lazied out though and just vertically displaced the side tiles and used them. I doubt I could fix it though, as how can you really break the monotony of countless small blobs of brown?

As for tall grass... you mean the swamp tiles? Probably. My goal is to completely revamp pics1.

I meant the ones around the top left corner in pics1, but seeing as you are completely revamping it then I guess you are.

DustyPorViva 05-31-2008 06:58 PM

Already redid them :)
