Most MMORPG's dont rely on customers to pay the company to develop content for them.

Making content is one of the things that make Graal unique. It's one of the reasons I am still here today.

It RELYS on us for content though. There's a difference.

Once upon a time CJ actually tried manage their servers, adding quality content and such. Now it's just us. Zone was originally playermade and revived by Stefan (i think Jagen helped a bit when he was a global or something) so it doesn't really count in my opinion, and GK is dead.

Actually there are many big games which don't run a forum at all. On Graal the forums are also some part of the support, which costs money.

Gerami, Graal by itself is currently not making a lot of money, please stop discussions about such things, it's just lame.

GPotato is home to 7+ games, all free with optional cash shops, and each game has it's own free forums.

But that fact is you're trying to use it as a means to make money.

Stefan, can you PLEASE at least answer one question for me? Why can't Classic accounts AT LEAST post on the Classic playerworld forums?

Uh, They could make their own content, then those of us who actually enjoy it wouldn't be able to, or be able to buy server space to make our own, and I would probably leave. I don't agree with you at all.

kia345 10-10-2007 10:49 PM

But are they making their own things? No. Look at Zone thriving off Sayian's gfx (or at least they did). Look at GK having people like Raven doing levels for free. All the servers people play are ran by players who aren't being paid to develop for Graal.

Those people do not have to do it. They can say no. Believe it or not, there are quite a few people who actually enjoy doing development work a lot. I know I am not the only one....

It's like comparing apples with bananas. The fact is that you don't get far without buying items, the items sometimes cost more than real life items (15€ for sun glasses?) and the forums are quite a mess in my opinion, the german forums are 95 percent full of complains about lag and bugs.

Once we change Graal more to be based on item selling then we probably need to change the forum access somehow, at least give access to everyone who bought an item in the last few months or so. Right now it is not an option though.

You're not. We're at least two. :)

Thanks for answering my question, Stefan.

Yes you would. It's possible to have Cyberjoueurs make content AND have the players still making content. Just become one or the other makes some of the content doesn't mean they have to make all of it.

Angel_Light 10-10-2007 11:35 PM

I too enjoy working on Graal just for fun. I don't need money for it. Just some noob (Talon, TheFox, Darkenedheart <3) saying ooo wow cool, This is amazing is good enough. <3 you guys.

Also Stefan do have any time frame in thought till your idea could be true?

I meant if Cyberjourers solely made all the content.

Then you're the only one who meant that.

Who else will do it? I never said they didn't enjoy it, but they're not employees, it's not their job.

It's our job for as long as we want to do it. :\

You fail to see that Graal has absolutely NO advertising to even draw in the players like those other games do.
It's business.

I never thought I'd see the day when the Main Scripter of the entire game (which provides us with the abilities to create the game) would say something like that. Congrats, you just made it on the "I-Can-Speak-My-Mind-Event-Though-It-May-Be-Hurtful-While-I'm-The-Main-Scripter" list.

But you see, once Graal becomes a major population, people will WANT those sun glasses for the said money they spent. But, these sunglasses wouldn't cost too much in reality, like, 50$ (adds 50 points_ is the max you can charge, then the glasses are about 3 spent. In reality, it's not THAT much, especially when the community becomes large enough, say, 30,000+ people, who will use the "shop" to get cool items, and that would be their subscription so really, you wouldn't need to pay subscriptions anymore unless after the first month you see company financial rates going down, which then you can add on extra to what you feel necessary. But please, try advertising?
You could atleast round up a group of people to do some work that will make the item's for the items selling on the servers you need so it's not only you and the other globals, which can't do ALL the work.

I did before, and it is lame if some people repeat stuff over and over again knowing that it's just plain stupid. Graal is an online game that is partially charging for playing and also let players create their own world. We provide hosting, client and servers, support and development help. We don't really make money with playerworlds, and you could compare the situation with people that do their own website (and often pay for hosting and tools) and so making it possible for internet providers to charge their customers to get access to the internet and see the websites.
