Well, as much as i'd like to stay and finish bashing australia, I have to go to cross country practice, because I do other things besides play graal. Good luck to Shadrock convincing SK to not commit suicide and I hope australia gets nuked while I'm away.

[quote][b]What is untrue about suicide being a permanent solution to a temporary problem?

Nothing. I didn't dispute that part.

Quote:

If I had a right to kill myself just because I thought my life wasn't worth it, you wouldn't know who I am, because I would have killed myself any time I had a bout of manic-depression.
Okay, that might be true.

Quote:

Suicide is against the law, and you cannot argue that that isn't true. But if you have no respect for the fact that suicide is selfish, than what can I say to convince?
Perhaps even the slightest reasoning for why it is selfish?

Quote:

Keep in mind I've said nothing religious. Also, let me point out that funeral costs are an expensive burden to place on your loved ones. Also let me point out that psychological help can be very expensive and those with suicides in the family are much more likely than other people to need long term counseling. Also let me point out that suicide invalidates life insurance. It can also cause a loss of property due to less lenient death taxes.
Okay, those are fair points. Is it then okay if the person works for a few weeks to raise all the cash, and then kills themselves?

Quote:

There are plenty of completely logical reasons why suicide is simply selfish. There are plenty of considerations of emotional and compassionate needs that make suicide selfish. And if all that is negated just because anybody thinks they have a right to kill themselves, than pardon my ill logic!
"Thinks"? A person has a right to do whatever they want with their life. That's a fundamental principle to life. Sure, it might cause heartache to their families, but to stay would cause heartbreak to the suicidee too. If a person would suffer more pain by living than he would cause to others by dying, then how is it selfish?

What a curiously eloquent statement. But why does it trouble you that I think this way?

inaspatz 08-30-2001 08:54 PM

cause I can't understand you. there is somebody who say he is going to commit suicide and you say Ok then die!?!?
He say it cause he need help, talking to him can helping too.

I will ask you again: Would you think so too if your best friend say something like this?

Why would he need help? Suicide isn't such a difficult thing to achieve. You're all missing one thing: He wants to die. You may think it's a bad idea, but you're not living his life. Let him decide for himself.

Oh, if he doesn't really want to die then fair enough. Help him if you so wish. I thought he actually wanted to die.

Don't say such things so easily. Just because somebody thinks differently to you does not mean that they're inherently wrong. Perhaps they've advanced to a level of thinking that you haven't?

Lycia 08-30-2001 09:21 PM

I feel that I should say something here since I tried suicide myself a little over 2 years ago.

I am very glad the drugs I ingested made me fall asleep before I could complete the procedure. I'm also glad that my friend told me to go to sleep and to sleep it off before I ingested anymore.

I am so grateful for the chance to still be here. I think my mom and brother would've gone insane right now if they had lost both me and my father within a 2 year period. See, saving someones life isn't selfish by any means. What's selfish is the thoughts of the person who wants to commit suicide. They aren't thinking about what might happen to other people as a result of their suicide. Someone ELSE may commit suicide because the person that committed suicide did it. You have to look at it from both sides of the coin. You can't just say that the person attempting to save a persons life from it is selfish and thats the bottom line, no. You must look at it from both sides of the fence. Maybe the person committing suicide is doing it to get back at someone for the emotional torture they put them through. That, in itself, is selfish. You can't only look at it from one angle, Kaimetsu. That's pretty biased, and narrow minded.

Suicide is INDEED a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

God doens't give us obstacles we can't overcome. We can overcome everything. It just takes personal strength and determination to get over that hill.

Jack, I respect you and all, but please, don't make fun of someone because of their religion. That is very uncool. Don't do it again.

I don't care what picture he posted. He did it to get a reaction, and thats exactly what you're providing for him.

inaspatz 08-30-2001 09:29 PM

It isn't only my thinking!!! You can ask a psychologist they would told you that it was a cry for help. . . first. . .

I say this cause I have Experiences with something like this :(

But you're not the Lycia who did all that so many years ago. You're glad it didn't happen, but that's not taking into account the feelings of Lycia-2years.

It's a fair point, but who gave those people the right to attach such importance to your life? Let's say somebody came to me and said "Hey Kai, I'm gonna kill myself if you ever eat bread again." Would they have the right to do that? To demand that I rid my diet of all yeasty baked sustenance? I don't think so. Same applies to family - if they grow attached to you then they are simultaneously accepting the potential consequences.

I agree entirely.

Let me clarify. I don't believe that suicide is logical. But then I don't believe that not committing suicide is logical. Neither is better than the other: humans aren't capable of pure logic. I'm not and you're not and I very much doubt anybody is. But if one approach is illogical, and the other is equally so, then why steer a person towards either?

most people attempt suicide to get people to notice them, i take it he needs attention... so erm....give him some :p

Which one? The Australia one and the "FoxIHateYou" one were stupid, but the actual suicide-related one was far from stupid.

They're all stupid. I've noticed that you're alone with your opinion and totally wrong aswell (In a way). We weren't created to end our life when something doesn't go our way. Maybe if he wants to die I shouldn't stop him, but that's your own opinion. We all have the right to our own opinion on things and I choose to try and help SK.

This is a debate between us, not you. You are not needed here so it's pointless to you. Therefore you should just tend to the other threads.

Just because I think differently doesn't mean I'm wrong. The majority isn't always right, and so far nobody has successfully proven me wrong.

Your thoughts are clouded by your religion. Your weakness is your lack of objectivity.

Nobody can prove anyone wrong. How can you say committing suicide is right? There is nothing right about it.

CyanideSR71 08-30-2001 11:30 PM

Poor Shadow Knight... People are more interested in the crocidile hunter and how people talk in the South Bronx than his own death... That's what happens when people don't truely follow Chrisianity... At least in my views...
