Wow stop fighting like kids.

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 01:53 AM

Oh yes, let's pick staff duties on a dead server over having a life.

MysticX2X 06-15-2009 02:05 AM

It's possible to balance both

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 03:03 AM

Yeah, if classic wasn't dead.

it's honestly like you're mentally retarded that you can't understand the simple concept of just stepping down if you're not going to do anything.

no matter how many times anyone says this to you your response is invariably HURR DURR Y SHOULD STAFF DO ANYTHING ON DEAD SERVER? WHO CAERS!

obviously some people who aren't you care and based on their reasoning should probably be the ones listened to.

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 05:20 AM

It's really sad how people seem to not understand the simple concept of what a dead server is and how it pretty much kills a ton of effort from a lot of people.

Perhaps there's some rumor going around that I don't like being a GC, idk.

But let me set the record straight. I don't hate hosting. I sure as hell don't love it anymore (probably due to classic's decline,) but I still find some fun in it. I sure as hell have enough time when I'm not working 30 hours a week. But let's be honest. Classic is dead for over 20 hours a day on average. And when it isn't dead, we barely get into the high teens even with numerous RCs on. Do we get into the 20s and 30s from time to time? Yes. But do we stay that way for hours on end, enable GCs to host event after event after event? No.

I'd love to host events on classic when I have the chance, but the playercount is simply not good enough to warrant me sitting all day on graal. When I don't work, I'd much rather be doing other things than sitting on graal with a playercount of 6. Maybe you find some satisfaction looking at 3 RCs and 2 random people, idk.

If you want to apply for GC and try to do better, then do so. But I'm sure as hell not going to "step down." I can still host and I'd like to host from time to time, but simply put: classic sucks too much for me to sit around and host when I could be doing other things.

Edit: same applies for other people in other staff positions.

Mark Sir Link 06-15-2009 05:22 AM

it's not even the GCs that most people would believe are doing nothing you self-centered ****

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 05:23 AM

Read edit.

DarkCloud_PK 06-15-2009 05:23 AM

tbh it really isnt hard to put graal in the background and idle for a bit if things arent going on at that time. unless you're playing a fullscreen game elsewhere

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 05:36 AM

Hard to play/dev for/host on graal when you have friends over and are playing CoD4.
Also hard to play/dev for/host on graal when you and said friends go somewhere.
Also hard to play/dev for/host on graal when you are playing basketball at 10 pm.
Also hard to play/dev for/host on graal when you eventually go to the movies with a chick who needs to find some time off from her busy schedule so you can go to said movies.
Also hard to play/dev for/host on graal when you are playing xbox on the other side of the room.

Obviously other situations might apply for other people.

DarkCloud_PK 06-15-2009 05:44 AM

then obviously if you dont have time for graal, why linger around and be inactive and let your reputation tarnish?

Luda 06-15-2009 05:46 AM

"sup i got exams"

DarkCloud_PK 06-15-2009 05:56 AM

and my rep tarnished, thats the past, oh well.

Luda 06-15-2009 06:03 AM

If you took the time to read my post around the middle of the page, it clearly said I had time to host most of the time and that I'd like to, but classic isn't host-able most of the time.

And if CoD4 w/ friends isn't funner than hosting a 3 person event then I don't know what is.

MysticX2X 06-15-2009 06:55 AM

Well before you were trying to speak on behalf of inactive Developers. The GC team is screwed and I can understand why your hosting rate isn't like usual around these times. I was just against your logic, not your activity for the GC team.

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 07:03 AM

To be honest man, I really don't see classic digging itself out of it's current hole. We're in really deep. I'd like to see classic rebound and become a consistent 20-30 player server again (or a lot better, however unlikely,) but the fact is that graal has been going downhill for years and many of the people who have the ability to dev don't have the time nor the want at this point.

It'd be great to say "how about every one logs on and gets to work for a few weeks and we'll see what we can get done" but the odds of such a thing are minimal. At this point, its hard enough for a single person (in many cases) to find motivation to work on classic for hours on end, much less the multitude of people required to make classic good again.

All in all, I've put a lot of time and effort into graal and have gotten quite a bit back; lots of memories and the like. But now, when I put time and effort into graal, I seem to be getting less and less back. It's bad to assume, but I can guesstimate that this is the case for many people. Either way, I'm slowly moving away from graal since classic doesn't seem to be getting better fast enough to warrant as much time as I used to spend on it. Perhaps some of you will do the same. Good luck to those of you who don't, for I wish you will succeed.

Pelikano 06-15-2009 09:19 AM

What do GCs have to do with this topic?

BlackSolider 06-15-2009 03:58 PM

*sigh*

This isn't about GCs. This is about staff not spending a large amount of time on a seemingly dead server, whether they be GC, FAQ, dev, or w/e.

acaremon02 06-19-2009 03:34 PM

I am also guilty about not being online to dev,
and it's really hard to do stuff without Adobe Photoshop (or a computer x_x)..
I understand people are frustrated about classic,
and though our ideas are different, our feelings for wanting to help classic is the one and same.

Classic can't survive without POSITIVE ATTITUDE,
like talking about the little things we are able to work on and helping each other out,
instead of trying to stop each other just because we don't like the other person..
I used to be like that too, but I think it's important that we take a look at ourselves and readjust our attitudes towards each other. All of us.

I'm not asking everyone to be a saint or Miss America..
But I think it's time we at least show respect for each others ideas, POSITIVE criticisms, and input.

STOP putting down other people's ideas just because you DON'T LIKE THEM.

On the bright side,
I've been working on Jade's hockey walls and the spider web for the Mod quest. I'll have to fix up the transparency and size when I get home though. Something to look forward to for the Development team, I hope :)

Sorry for the long post with the grammar errors.

BlackSolider 06-19-2009 06:19 PM

Good idea midi.

MysticX2X 06-19-2009 08:03 PM

Midi the dev team and dalton needs you.

acaremon02 06-20-2009 03:21 AM

I suggest we sell land.
If people want a playerhouse, we should sell land by the tiles.
Instead, we should be less strict about the playerhouses that are uploaded.

It could be the first step towards an "economy" on Classic.

MysticX2X 06-20-2009 03:34 AM

No, paying for playerhouses suck. :(.

I believe it's better than letting those rupees/gralats/gelats rot in our bank.
It's important to keep money in circulation, something we lack currently.
At first people will say "no one's going to buy playerhouses", etc,
(not just playerhouses) but once we set up many different things that can be purchased by gralats, new players will be attracted and want to stay on the server to make gralats to get/do what they want.

Also, another thing I want to go over.
It's important to realize that there are different type of RPGers.
There are those who want to join events and competitions,
there are those who'd rather go on quests,
there are those who want to go mining and fishing to make money,
there are those who would rather chat and interact as a community.
Successful video games make sure the game appeals to all of these different types, from simple-looking games like Pokemon to complex MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.
Developers, please take care to remember that.

MysticX2X 06-20-2009 05:42 AM

It's probably something we want to tackle once the economy situation is taken care of. It's a potential idea but I still see drawbacks in it. It's not really as tempting to try making a playerhouse if you have to pay for one. But then again, you don't have many individuals these days even asking to have a playerhouse. All in all, it could be thought of once the economy situation is taken care of where then items can be released based on gralat amount, but not exactly a prosperous idea IMO. You are thinking on the ball though, Midi.

But I honestly don't think an economy is in the best interest of Classic. Rather we should focus on puzzles/miniquests/sidequests scattered across the overworld with the addition of hardline quests to suffice some other cool items/heras. Maybe then players might want to come to Classic, and then GC can revive itself in one manner.

jacob_bald6225 06-20-2009 08:34 AM

Let me state this: You can't have an economy when there is an unlimited amount of money in bushes.

DarkCloud_PK 06-20-2009 09:03 AM

Every server has an unlimited amount of money that can be earned, the bushes weren't really the problem with the economy. Its the lack of pricey things to buy compared with 100K black gralat quest money and admins giving themselves tons of cash, or others tons of cash with no fallback

I agree.
Though each server has unlimited amount of money that can be earned,
it's way too easy the way it is right now..
Same with bombs and arrows.
(Why are the stores selling bombs and arrows anyways when they can be filled up with a few slashes at the bushes? That just kills another economic possibility)

who is going to script fighting fish.
if i do it it will take forever because i am a terrible scripter

MysticX2X 06-21-2009 02:52 AM

Wasn't massokre sort of woking on that? Well he's fired now, but still.

DarkCloud_PK 06-21-2009 02:54 AM

ok i could have given massokre the project, eta 2015

BlackSolider 06-21-2009 06:23 AM

Thought thor was working on FF. In fact, he showed me a glimpse of it one time in a small pond NE of swamp town. Basically he just used the fish to swim/jump around in the water a bit.

But that was a month or two ago, and I have no idea how FF actually works, though I was told it was similar to my graalemon idea way back when.

MysticX2X 06-21-2009 08:45 AM

Graalemon...yay how original.
