I've been an era player for 5 years, and a system such as that will NOT work. I can't exactly explain why, but that's just how it is.

Doesn't really sound like a concrete defense.

Thanatoses 05-25-2009 07:54 AM

Same could be said about your proposal. Even if the balancing of guns could be point-based (senselessly more trouble than its worth) the same amount of thought, consideration and controversy would be existant.

What would be solved? Gun balancing wouldn't be any less difficult. Therefore the idea would solve nothing, making it useless. I'd suggest you not make underinformed or uniformed proposals.

How would it be any less difficult? It might not be that simple to implement, but it would make balancing weapons in the future way easier. Because one weapon will never have more points than the other, you'll most likely never encounter a gun that is more powerful than the next, statistically. The effects of the statistics themselves may have to be balanced, but that would mean it would universally balance with the weapons rather than individually. Right now I believe stats are pretty much assigned as 'seen fit', so you might end up with a weapon that has shoddy fire rate, but an attack power that way overcompensates and ends up statistically better than a gun meant to be equally as powerful with better firing rate. It would basically be doing what staff are trying to accomplish right now, but hard-coded.

Also, there is no harm in throwing out theoretical proposals. However, there is harm in dismissing them because "I know it won't work", when there is no firm reason to say it wouldn't. So really, your whole uninformed proposal stuff is a moot point. Because really, where is the harm in me making them?

Pelikano 05-25-2009 11:55 AM

As long as the Staffs actually do play the game themselves, there will be corruptions.

That was stocked at 9:10pm eastern, mind you.

I really would like to know this too.

LordSquirt 05-25-2009 03:11 PM

For some reason it won't let me quote Frank, so i'll have to do without doing so. However, this is directed to him.

You know I live in EST timezone also? I don't understanding what you're trying to say. I wasn't the one who chose the time to stock it, and I was only one out of three who bought it. Also, in regards to the Flak, wouldn't that be an unfair advantage against Europeans then. If it was stocked at 9 10 PM EST it would be like 2AM for the Europeans.

However, I think you just got to the main point.
I just don't see why ET Weapons aren't getting restocked again, I mean wtf?

I think they should be made undroppable, but stocked unlimited, so everyone with enough ECs should be able to buy them.
And they should be allowed in Events, I mean buying a Weapon with Event Coins and not being able to use it in Events is pretty illogic, isn't it?

I never understood the purpose of making EVENT weapons disabled in EVENTS and it wasn't one of the things that I liked at all. However, like I said it's not my choice. Also, like I said before I recommended that we should stock the event items, however, that went no where

Frankie9011 05-25-2009 07:53 PM

You just made the point I was trying to make, Squirt.
6:30am EST is NOT when most EST players are online, obviously, because they're probably sleeping. I'd say about 3-4 regular EST people are on at that time (including you and myself), so how can you say thats fair? 2am is a much more reasonable time...

And what I'm "trying" to say is that it seems fishy to me that you'd be up so late considering I always see you get off around 4:30am..

I view things by weighing the pros and cons, the amount of effort put into such a system outweighs the benefits by far. Its an inefficient inecessity, it would by far limit the versatility in weapons and would no way insure balance any more than now. You are looking at weapon balancing in a separate but equal ordeal, that is only pertaining to certain weapons of the same class or status. Weapons of different or superior classes are meant to be BETTER. A shotgun should not at all be balanced with a PBP Shotgun, the gun is of more rarity, power and etc. Which detests your proposal. On era, price, rarity, and purpose determine a weapon's stats. Your proposal would work for ONLY guns that share those factors which are not enough consume this much work.

Most beneficial and efficient method is the current, an Admin with knowledge of the weapons and can properly adjust them as see fit. (By Admin, I do not mean Chris Vimes)

Do not send uninformed or underinformed proposals because we have to waste our ripping them apart. The wasting of the time of others is a form of harm.

As far as stocking weapons, it's always going to be unfair when releasing new ones. Perhaps in the future, it would be best to have an auction of some kind that lasts a day or two so everyone gets a chance.

Squirt is indeed on around 6:30 AM. I've been up then we he is.

Dark_Zeratul101 05-25-2009 10:46 PM

There are also different factors for guns that people tend to oversee. Such as the reach of the gun, the position the gun is on, and the spread itself.

LordSquirt 05-25-2009 11:02 PM

I work the night shift at my job that means that I go to work anywhere from 8PM EST until 8AM EST. Depending on the day/my time schedule you would see me on frequently during that time. However, like I said before I was never the one to stock it in the first place. Also, if it was such a bad time to stock it why were three of them sold like not even 5 minutes after they were stocked. Obviously their had to be some amount of people on for three people to have more than 125EC. I think you would be hard pressed to find someone with that much EC currently.

Indeed.

Which brings me to a question I've often wondered.

Just how exactly did you manage to aquire so many ECs? This happened a while back, as I recall.

You hadn't been on Era very long. Innate talent for era-related events, I suppose?

salesman 05-25-2009 11:06 PM

Unless we make all event items untransferable, selling overpowered weapons in the EC shop is stupid

(which is why I removed them)

edit: I think Squirt's been MVP in like 3 gang Koths too

I hardly played events back then. That's not to say I didn't play events at all, but I hardly participated in them. I gained my EC though being on GP tag. Every 7hours on tag I received one coin. You might look at this and say "OMG ONE EC 7 HOURS IMPOSSIBLE", but it's not. I was on GP tag constantly, only going off for gang related reasons as well as business. I also participated in many gang events and was the MVP of many gang events, which helped me received the 125EC needed.

Aldaris, you're contradicting yourself. You stated it had little to do with staff then stated a reason that had EVERYTHING to do with staff, lol. Era's decline has alot to do with staff, no sense in trying to bury that.

Finally someone knows what I'm talking about.

emoman 05-27-2009 04:41 AM

Why is era going downhill ?

Because honest workers get NO WHERE in era, you can pick flowers and save your money for a month while there are plenty of others getting there guns and money in more diffrent ways

In era, its no longer about skill, its about how much damage, freeze time, and accuracy your gone has. (Although not always)

In era its all about who you know, and how much USD you have on your paypal, not about how much time you put into flower picking and shoveling...
I know of very few honest workers on era who have wealth on that server, i doubt it will ever change

TheJames 05-27-2009 11:18 AM

Be real. What do you thinks going to happen when you put 14-17yr olds behind a computer, and give them some sort of "power" over other players, c'mon...

I've been playing Era since 2002-03. Theres a bunch of changes to Era all the time, but a zebra cant change its stripes, you get what I mean? Its always going to rely on gangs, guns, popularity, and if you have a friend on the staff team. I've sat through so many different changes and different managers its redicilous. Watching people get picked for stuff in which there are other players that are way more dapt to do that job, but they seem to be lacking in the popularity contest. But yea I agree emoman, most guns right now are like redicilous prices, you cant even pick flowers or do whatever to get that kinda mad cash to buy any decent weapon. How are newcommers supposed to get an edge? Once again, popullllaarrriitttyy ;)

No pun intended, but if Graal Ghetto is hitting that many players, Roffle my cakes. Atrius: World at War is going to roxursox.

mhmhm... credit card fraud?

TheJames 05-27-2009 12:17 PM

That doesn't really pertain to this subject. Maybe if the subject was TheJames or something. But just to clear that up, I used my parents credit card to upgrade my account and purchase my server. Later in that month the credit card was stolen off my parents. Thousands of dollars was charged up online on some sort of trading website and such. A bunch of clothing items were bought etc.. So all online charges were held, and marked fraudulent. Just my luck, that was the credit card I used to pay for Graal. Long story short, I had our account representative e-mail me proof. I showed it to Bell and Stefan and they unbanned me. So yea. :asleep:

But really, the corruption and players is what keeps me off the server. The staff seem to not really care for the newbies, and the players are all ignorant ****s that like to mess with new players so they don't log on again.
That is at least what has been my experience.

Pelikano 05-28-2009 11:34 AM

yep I agree with you, the staffs are freaking corrupted

spawning ECs, saying they got them by being on tag for 875 hours, meaning 36 and a half Day, and that in less than a month :]

And if you delete this post to, because of "Stop it..." cbk, then I don't know anymore... haha

I can't think of one staff member who wouldn't be willing to help out a new player if they asked. We do need some kind of noobie course or something though. Something to atleast warn new players of the dangers ahead.

I know you're staff and should defend you and your co-workers, but realistically it'd be truely difficult for a new player without friends to play Era. The staff are unhelpful, completely. I personally am of more help to the new players than the staff, which is pathetic.

Honestly there's been very few times when a new player has come to me asking for help, but when they do I help them.

I guess the new players usually go to the FAQs and GPs first since they're always on tag...and I can't really speak for them since they change so often.

Thanatoses 05-28-2009 09:34 PM

Personally, from my observation, basically all of current Era's Players, are in three categories.

Been Playing For Years : Started when staff were competent (02-04)
Offspring of those players (Meaning introduced to Era by them) which is (05-06).
Finally, a few players who were introduced to Era by them.

All in all, there is a low-number of "new players", 1 maybe even 2 years and under. And it keeps gettin' lower, and you're trying to tell me staff are oh so helpful? Get real.

I don't think the number of new players has anything to do with Era's staff, but it is a common problem with Graal in general.

unfortunately this is true. majority of the players that are playing have been here for a while. there aren't many "fresh meat" players because this server is extremely hard to get started.

and if there are fresh meat players, they have friends that have been playing the game so they get an edge.

Thanatoses 05-28-2009 09:52 PM

I disagree, while it may not be entirely their fault, they did have a part in the matter. The inhabitability of era for new players due to the assistance, or lack there of by the administration / staff team played a significant role as well, I'm sure.

Imagine being new to Era when Daz, TSAdmin, Icarus, or Ocelot were in power. Hell, huh?
Not much has changed since then, so the imagination of tyranny proceeds.

Agree'd..
people say its hard for noobies to get started on this server because of the players supply and demand economy, that we have created.

But this did not happen when someone like Smu was in power, something tells me its staff
