your missing my point completely, im not complaining about how lame invisable prozies are, im saying visable proxies are much more fun to use, then again, using the mine detector makes the game extremely tediose too.

We shouldn't dumb down the game just because some kids want to play Rambo with their Appirces.

It wouldn't be dumbing down due to the fact of needing to find decent hiding spots which would require a lot more knowledge of the maps as well as being able to think one step ahead of your opponents.

a) use a stupid class which they wouldn't enjoy playing

Stupid class? I think all the classes are pretty balanced and have weapons that suit them individually.

Dying to sniper isn't enjoyable, dying a lot of the time isn't enjoyable. Are you saying we shouldn't die? That would ruin everyone's fun.

Would players stop playing for just this reason? I somehow doubt that, I just figure that they would learn from their mistakes (In some cases) and would learn how to avoid proxmines.

(Prox literally take no skill just to plant some in the middle of the field and have people run over and explode while you may just hide in the dropship what fun does this allow players to have?)

I totally disagree with this part of your post in so many different ways.

The main point of Zone is to enjoy yourself and have fun. My understanding is that you are saying proxmines should be removed for that reason? Are proxmines not fun to put down and have enjoyment with when you are killing someone else?

Cakes freeze people, and a lot of people hate them because they ruin their game play, but for the people using the weapon, they are having a great time!

So just think about making them even just slightly visible or have some way to notice them, (Look at the votes for Yes to visibility)

Maybe classes could be given better vision in a sense.

The classes could have upgrades such as improved vision (Would make mines stand out), increased speed (With drawbacks like much less power or slower firing), or increased firing (With less speed or power)

It'd be neat if all the classes could be given a standard vision in which proxmines are almost invisible, and with upgrades you could tint the screen to better spot mines but you may not be able to spot bullets as easily.

You could also have classes with a less transparency (Like the grenadier) in which the mines would stick out much more. Maybe it could be made so you could have a helmet (Mine detector) that you could attach without using your hands, but it would make your visibility lower while still highlighting mines.

Proxmines are useless when visible. Hell, if you use proper teamwork with just ONE other person then their useless invisible!

1. All classes don't have mine detector for a good reason. The ones that should have it do.
2. Actually, I personally feel proxmines are a lot more fun when invisible. You just have an opinion about proxmines, what you say isn't fact. You should alter your post.
3. Learn to use periods and commas Mr.RunOnSentance

I don't care for proxmines being invisible, but I don't care for them being visible either. Teamwork is all good and fine, but how team oriented is Zone actually? I see very little actual team work required on Zone to succeed. Zone is objective oriented before it is team oriented.

On Iricia it is very uncommon to find people deliberately working as a team to take bases, and it isn't required for two or more people (This is what I would consider a team) to take the bases. This can be done by one player, and there is little that needs to be done to win the round.

Having a team can help, but is this a necessity in the game play to have players with mine detectors out? Guilds can work as teams, but I find it rare to find a team such as sweep fleet working as a team, with each member understanding what they need to do to win the round, and actually doing it.

my idea is just lets see how proxies do visible for like 1week (the scripting to make it visible wouldn't be hard and i'd be happy to edit it for you)
if they are boring and become completely useless then you can change it back to invisible.

How does this sound to you?

You are willing to compromise because you agree a lot of people don't like it. The problem with one week is that it could work fine for one week, but would it work good for months or years? One week could serve as a test time, but it isn't an extremely reliable basis from which opinions can be taken to decide if that should be done.

Proximity mines completely visible are near impossible to hide, like the bike mines. If they were made transparent, it would be much more difficult to see, but you could still see, resolving the problem of not being able to see at all.

Personally, I like proxmines invisible and I do like that it encourages the little actual team work involved on Zone.

jkool666 01-24-2009 05:03 AM

Make a small indent in the ground where you place a proxmine.

Ravenblade1979 01-24-2009 05:08 AM

Ok this topic is officially going nowhere.

Basically live with it. You and others will get smarter when playing and figure out the areas to avoid that people mine heavily.

team up like jesse said.

bahamutstevetff 01-24-2009 05:10 AM

supernanny, its not fun to die from things where you have no chance of fighting back. getting killed from someone using kv9 or whatever is okay because atleast you know you had the chance to fight back and just got bested.

Ravenblade1979 01-24-2009 05:16 AM

So in other words the people that want this want to make zone lamer then it already is...just making sure I'm hearing this right.

how is it making zone lamer? making it so players have the chance to fight back against the weapon in question?

anubis_wing 01-24-2009 06:23 AM

Honestly, maybe not make them visible but some small notification that they're there. A notification that can be easily missed.

Jesse, you are a *****. Sorry, but Zone isn't teamwork oriented. It's team oriented, difference is, that your teams point is to join up and kill stuff, not join up, have each person be a different class and use the benefits to work together to make some unification bull****. In a server like Zodiac, yes, but not Zone. Zone is about going out teaming up and killing **** as fast as you can (sometimes that means ganging up). The way you're describing it, you make it sound as though Zone players are smart, and realise that "Hey maybe teaming up WOULD be a good idea", well you're wrong. The truth is the Zone players are the kind of people who say "What's moves the fastest, and what weapon is the ***est".

I personally think that adding mine detector to all classes would be a fine and dandy thing to do, why? Because all classes are evenly effected by mines, they all take the same damage, they all feel the hurt. So why limit it to only one or two classes? Each class has it's ups and downs and the weapons that they get reflect the speed of the class. Thus, why should something that hurts everything equally, has the same effect on everything, not be added to every class. It's fair, it doesn't matter how slow, or fast you are mines effect everyone in the same way.

Why not take a suggestion from an outside party who doesn't know anything about Zone?

Let's look at the Combat Knife: S is a melee strike, and D is a toss. Why not work it like that?

Equipping Prox to S results in the current invisible mine. No one sees it, it blows up. But perhaps make the animation for "setting/burying" it longer, and limit how close the buries ones can be to each other without them setting each other off, to prevent invisible mine spamming.

While putting them on D is just "dropping" them. You quickly drop a visible mine, and there's no limit to how close they can be to each other.

No Wang, you're a *****. Zone is teamwork oriented pending on how you play. Mines force that method of gameplay on players. That method of gameplay is FUN. Ever wonder why guilds with smart leaders dominate? The times I do play Zone, thats the method I use and I don't die much.

I will discuss this with Dan and Dante ;P.

Teamwork is actually forced into gameplay through trying to capture, maintain bases (Artic), Capture the Flag, Keep your teams flag safe (Wild Cross), Wipe out the other team whilst keeping your team alive (Gwars) Capturing and maintaining the hill (Hoth), those are the main situations that force teamwork into gameplay, as for mines it doesn't force teamwork in due to the fact that most players just run over mines they don't even bother with mine detectors and how is it forcing teamwork?

Well If you really wanted to force teamwork in then make prizes for actually doing mission objectives not by making invisible mines to blow the crap outta people.

Didn't we come to a compramise idea? Making little bumps in the ground. Or maybe dirt looking messy since someone was just digging there.

You have to accep that. Im not crying if I die, that's just the game.

Jkool understand it! If they proxed b1, and you walk in a mine. I think that we're smart enough to use minedetector for the next time

okay for those of you who haven't actually read what me and jkool have wrote above, it says that we have reached a compromise which allows prox to be slightly visible as mounds of dirt so i would like this thread closed please, Supernanny or whoever wants to close it =]
