I can really tell that you're working with Sage. :p

Sage hasn't even been on :(
Those diags were made by me and me only.
But then again, Sage is pretty much my tutor xP

If you guys are going to compete with Era(?)
I think you'll need a better tile.

Of course those give you a headache. That was just the bare minimum of what was made. The basic checkered floor to go with the base walls. If this was "that simple" I think a lot of other player might have done it already. Also, from what I've payed around with, it's not buggy at all :X

Heres what just the tiles look like (don't mind the purple/pink):

http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/1...lprojecdu3.png

We might end up eventually, adding some wall borders and design to those tiles also, but heres the start!

Oh, and tone down the black in the checkered floor tile. At such a small size, the black and white contrast harshly... try a mildly dark dark grey, or tone down the white... or do both.

Is the tile made in just MS paint?

Exactly, I didn't want to go iso, seeing as that may differentiate the perspectives from the regular levels and that by a long shot. So I just did 45 degree angels. Also I will tone that down a bit, it IS kind of a bit much :p

Yop, everything was made in MS, besides the gray angled wall. That had a Noise tool added to it to give it some texture.

Updates
-GUI&Inventory are updated (obviously form Mikes post)
-Bounty system has been mildly started.
-Stats system is being worked on (leveling skills)
-HP and melee base systems are completely done (hit detection is on)
-GMap made 'some' progress since last post
-Tiles are now being added to stay away form Era's style!

Questions, Ideas and concerns are still and always welcome!

Demisis_P2P 08-08-2008 03:52 AM

Personally I wouldn't bother making diagonal wall tiles until there is proper support for tile layers.
And then you can add the diagonals on a new layer with transparency at the bottom, so you can use the one type of diagonal wall on all floor type without making multiple copies on your tileset.

Arch_Angel 08-08-2008 05:07 AM

Yea that would have made things a lot easier. But I already made the base and setups for the rest of floor tiles I add to the walls angles, so its all good now.

It's not that demanding on tiles to make one for the wall to match each floor. Sure, layers would make it easier, but no reason to skip on diagonals. People just need to learn how to do tile layouts efficiently.

And how would you rate my tile layout ability? :\

Update
I made a new Sig for Int!

DustyPorViva 08-08-2008 06:58 AM

Hmm? I dunno, it's never bad until you run out of room... and that really sucks when you already have a whole overworld and many interiors done, and you have to do a whole new tileset layout.

I find a general good layout would be to have a tileset for the exterior, and a tileset for the interiors... and addtiledef2 for changing wall tiles(much like palette swapping), and floors and other stuff that would frequently be different. It means less creativity because you can't use outside tiles inside, and vice versa, but you have SO much more room.

Arch_Angel 08-08-2008 07:05 AM

Yea I already thought about doing that. But we started the OW and such, and have a good bit of tiles. Idk what I'm going to do at the moment.

DustyPorViva 08-08-2008 07:08 AM

If you decide, do it early. In the end, even if you run out of room using the 'normal' method that you're doing now... you can just addtiledef2 when it's needed. It's just more inconvenient.

Arch_Angel 08-08-2008 07:12 AM

Okay thanks, be ready for a PM soon to further explain how to use addtiledef2 :D

DustyPorViva 08-08-2008 07:23 AM

Ok, I'll answer it here...
addtiledef2 is very similar to addtiledef in functionality, except that it's overlays an image over the tile, instead of replacing it.

The prefixing works the same. If you do:
addtiledef2(imagecrap,"ow_",0,0);
It will replace the tiles at the 0,0 pixel coordinate in the tileset for all levels starting with ow_.

Now, you can also do:
addtiledef2(imagecrap,"ow_a01",0,0);
to replace tiles specifically for level ow_a01 an none others. I suggest this whenever you use them on the overworld, so you don't get unintended tile errors.

Arch_Angel 08-08-2008 07:29 AM

I'll play around with it then, doesn't sound all too hard. I did it a bit on Icarus before, but it kinda faded from my memory.

DustyPorViva 08-08-2008 07:41 AM

Remember, the coordinates you use are pixel coordinates, in the tileset image itself.

Arch_Angel 08-08-2008 07:46 AM

Ya I got it

I dont pixel crappy anymore (no offense Angel) haha. But those tiles on that tileset are just old cruddy works of mine besides Angels.. Interitus is looking for skilled Level designers to help work on the 8x8 cities that we are starting off with.

If you are interested in helping out either post on here, pm me on the forums or log on Interitus. I will have you do a few levels to show your skills and see if you can design with the style i am looking for.

Thank you for your time!

Mike

Any feed back whats so ever towards the progress of the server? Or anything?

pooper200000 08-13-2008 11:39 PM

It loooked nice when I logged on. :)

farte6 08-14-2008 05:30 AM

post pictures, show me some progress.

Arch_Angel 08-24-2008 06:13 PM

Okay so here's the scoop on Int. It has been making some progress, but nothing too special. Graphics are still being added daily, but less and less scripts are being added daily, until we've reached the point to nobody scripting. So yes, we are once again in need of a scripter for Interitus. If you do not know it's theme and goal, look back at the previous posts from this thread. Or just log on Interitus for yourself, and I will be sure to give you the tour/wrap on what it is and will be. My account on it is Omaster2, I can be contacted on the server itself, or simply by AIM: aexgraalx. I will soon post updates on some of the things that got done since last time, but I assure you, it's nothing to brag about...

I know this is a really old post to be quoting, but i have to say this is the kind of thinking that brought graal down in the first place, calling other people thieves and finding some way to stop them from using tilesets or graphics.

The fact is, even if someone uses tons of stuff from other servers, they don't have any idea at all on how to put it all together to make a good server that will make it to the classic list, where someone that made all original stuff for their server does make it because their server was not a massive mix of random whatever scattered in for the sake of "oh that looks cool, lets use it" reasons.

Arch_Angel 08-26-2008 05:50 AM

Interitus has been updated a lot in the past 48 hours, believe it or not. Our staff team has been very active, and we got many systems up and going that we did not have before. Hopefully activity like today continues throughout many days on the server. So, let's get down to business and post some updates and have you, the players of Graal, comment or criticize on the server.

Updates:

Players who decide to stay in the Faction Cities and PK or do other various things will have a badge above them. The badge is the logo of their faction. This helps other players identify who they are, and what side they are on. Also, in this screeny you can see the Custom nickname letters we have also. It may become a different font or color in the future, but that is the basic of it at this moment.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/6...creeny1vl1.gif

Next you will see the custom Profiles we have made. The basic template for it, to replace the Default Blue GUI, is completely done. The Profile shows things such as your Kills/Deaths, Nick/Account, Exp, and Rank. The rank shows the badge image of your rank, each level you gain, you get a better badge. Also, your Faction badge displays in the bottom right corner of the profile, showing what faction you are from. The following faction you see below is Defiancy Hold.

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/2...creeny2ga3.gif

The next image is still of the profile, but with an 'About' tab, where you can customize it to your liking. You can display contact info, interests, or even just random facts in this description box. Nothing too vulgar can be displayed, as it reports to the RC and an Admin has rights to be able to EDIT your box, and give you a warning. Keeping the unnecessary vulgarity to a minimum.

http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/4...creeny3il5.gif

And lastly, as far as Systems and Scripts go, a Login screen was made and fully functional. Upon logging in for the first time, you get to choose which Faction you will fight for. You will then be directed to that faction's city. As of now though, you just get warped to the OSL. The Login menu will be added to, as you can see it is pretty bland. If you also look, it has a Info button, where if you click it, it will display the factions goals and background history. Maybe some of its weaknesses or strengths, which could be implemented into gameplay in the near future.

http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/7...creeny4wu1.gif

But as for the info, we need a little background history, maybe a story of some sort. So for all you RP'ers or people who have a creative imagination, we are looking for some history, to add to the Faction Info about them. Contact my Via Forum PM or on Interitus if you would help us out and write us a short story that is uniquely put together. All help is appreciated.

And to finish this post of, some images and tiles are added daily of course, sometimes nothing too big, other times it's a good chunk of new content. So I hope you enjoyed reading over some off the updates, and hope you stay tunes with Interitus. Now let's hear some thoughts about the server and its updates / direction. Try not to make it too harsh, and try your best to be polite in your questions / criticism. :D

It's nice except that despite the innovations it's still a modern themed shooter and you'll be trying to beat the big guys at their own game.

Its not all about shooting. You could even chose a path to have no guns involved.

Yea that's true. We are trying to be different in every which way we can while keeping it fun for the players. Which is why we are hoping the main player-base of the server will be for the Modern Warfare area, and not the Modern city area. Unless, of course, it turns out pretty good. Which I have no doubt it should if we manage to stay active here. :)

More updates to come shortly;

Any LAT's wishing to lend us a hand are more than welcome. We have a lot of level work to do!

Try our best to go for a new style of gameplay in almost any way that we can, while keeping it fun for the players at the same time. Which is why we are not only keeping it a Modern-war style server, but with a variety of other themes that fit into it as well.

In a very harsh way of wording this, our long-term goal is to be one of those servers that other UC servers try to mimic and make it a look-a-like on there server, such as other servers do now. With that being said, that's why I try my best to add/change any tiles that people say are similar to Era, while at the same time, get other things done that keep the overall progression of the server at a good pace. Sorry for the huge run on sentence. :D

Then why aren't you doing an RTS or something? "Pick up a gun and shoot" is still not a "new style of gameplay" even if you change a few things.

You can do plenty of other things with having war involved in the gameplay, other than "pick up a gun and shoot". Just takes some thought... I know it's a rare thing to find amongst Graalians, 'thought', but some of us use our head believe it or not. :\

What are you talking about? You mean Sands of Glory's gameplay? You told me that you were going to eventually "rescript all of the systems so there is almost no sands of glory scripts but keep the same idea".
our long-term goal is to be one of those servers that other UC servers try to mimic
Yet you're mimicking another server to get there?

Or have you completely changed your plans?

Arch_Angel 08-28-2008 01:04 AM

Our plans that you stated about SoG have absolutely nothing to do with this server. I already stressed that this is a completely new and different server. I'm mimicking nothing of another server to get to our goal....o_O

Clockwork 08-28-2008 01:48 AM

Get rid of the ugly faction badges over the player, they'll only be annoying, and it would be better to only include it in the nickname....something like:

Aeko
FactionName

Also, since when has grey (gray w/e) been the univeral color for modern gui? Please...please...choose something different. I swear I've seen that same gui (Or different look-alikes) of it on several modern servers.

Thank you for using ranks <3 ! :D
