Following the rules is completely different than what we want to do while blogging. We're fine following rules. Most sites that will host blogs for free have set rules to follow.

The problem is, mods here read the rules, and then have their own opinions of to what extent the rules allow.

I already posted this before. I get tons of my posts deleted for stupid reasons, because the mods don't like what I post. This isn't a matter of me posting porn or something, it's me posting a pretty harmless word, or a harmless phrase and the mod not liking it... and because the RULES are completely bendable to whatever they want, it gets deleted.

The problem is that I can't rant and rave because things are moderated so strictly around here. I mentioned the word masturbation once and my post got deleted... OH NO! I posted the word homosexually once, out of pure jest, and it got deleted and I got an infraction for sexual harassment. OH NO! You see where this is going?

And yet Moon Goddess is a good moderator by Unixmad's standards, and subsequent moderators will be chosen by the same criteria, and will enforce the same style of moderation.

Unixmad doesn't watch Darlene throwing around her rights like a wrecking ball

The lounge does not have that much different rules. You can just post links there

Okay, good argument. I never actually bothered with the lounge because I got the impression that it was all offtopic. If we get to flag our blog posts with several levels of appropriate-for-kids-ness, that would be awesome.

Either you misread it, or I miswrote it. The problem isn't the rules, the problem is the rule-keepers. In short, you.

Moon Goddess has been a mod for long enough that someone would have managed to get Unixmad to reverse her decisions if he had not been fully supporting them, which he is.

Inverness 07-21-2008 08:15 PM

I don't get the impression that Unixmad is on the forum long enough to get more than a general idea of what Darlene does.

And I do get the impression that Darlene does a lot of moderation based on her own preferences and not the forum rules.

That would be ideal I believe.

I didnt misread it, and I know what you meant. My point is that if you cant rant and rave in an appropriate mannor, then just dont

It would be appropriate. By the rules. You on the other might not like it, and deem it inappropriate, as you so frequently do.

Whether something is appropriate or not is an opinion. You moderate based on opinion more often than not.

Boooooooooooooooooooooooring.
I can imagine it now. I write a long blog entry about forum moderation and BAM, it gets deleted because of ONE WORD... but really got deleted because of the topic.

It takes less effort to delete a post/topic rather than editing the content.

I am pretty sure that Moon Goddess is in contact with Unixmad about forum issues often enough that you can assume that she doing a good job at representing his stance on moderation, and the rules are set by Unixmad to support her moderation. Has he ever overturned decisions made by her?

Crono 07-21-2008 08:24 PM

The fact that we even get to discuss this topic shows some progress in terms of Darlene's moderation but in my opinion SHE isn't the problem when it comes to moderation, it's the fact that she defends another mod no matter how outright unjust his actions are.

As far as I see it, Unixmad is rarely on the forum so he has Darlene to enforce rules. And even when he is on the forum its only for Graal announcements and such and never really to communicate (beyond those announcements). So things like complaints about Darlene just die somewhere.

I would be honestly surprised if we weren't allowed to discuss this.

Nataxo 07-21-2008 08:26 PM

idk if i'll use this "blogs"...gratz for the update anyways

DustyPorViva 07-21-2008 08:27 PM

Darlene has surprised me many times in supporting a topic I thought would quickly be deleted. I don't know if she lets them stay just to try to prove us wrong, or because she is sincere in her cause... but they stay.

On the other hand, seeing many of my posts disappear when I thought they were perfectly fine pisses me off :/

I have never done that. If I defend someone, it is because I agree with them

The only reason she doesn't lock this is because it would make us right. You know as well as any of us if we didn't mention her specifically, she would've locked it.

You should be so happy, in The Other Internet Forum posts are rarely at all deleted or even edited, except to append a cute little "user was banned for this post" notice, and then you get to buy another account.

They talk over ICQ and such, as far as I am informed.

We honestly should not, because this is very offtopic already. Moon Goddess should probably just delete all thread branches about this.

When did you start posting here?

DustyPorViva 07-21-2008 08:30 PM

What Other Internet Forums? I'm having a hard time following your post.

kia345 07-21-2008 08:30 PM

Can I be like Darlene and twist was is and isn't off topic? This is all on topic, it regards the blogs and the posting of them

Dude, you are doing the replying-to-the-thread thing again.

I think I am not allowed to advertise them or anything, I was just giving an example of a forum with much less scrupulous moderation.

I don't think so, the 'projects' require organization, the blog is simplier and also connected to the user profile.

No, it is not, it quickly went into ranting and raving about the moderation in general.

Of all the forum posts I've ever made, I would say 88 percent were on these forums, 3 percent on the Valikorlian forums, 3 percent on the Elder Scrolls forums, and the last 6 percent on 20 other different places.

I don't get around the forum scene too much obviously.

I highly doubt Darlene forwards complaints about Darlene to Unixmad.

I do it a lot. You pointing it out isn't going to encourage me to do it any less :P

I have browsed a lot of forums over my internet life and the moderation on these are by far the most strict and annoying.

Darlene159 07-21-2008 08:35 PM

Alright, this thread is not about me, and my moderation. I have already stated that the blogs will be moderated like the forums, unless unixmad states otherwise. I'm not going to argue the rules further.

I hope that some people can get some use from the blogs, be it for playerworld news, or whatever.

No one is arguing the rules.
We're simply discussing them, and how they'll effect blogging.

Seeing as this topic is about the new blogs, I think it's very appropriate to discuss something as important as the rules.

Unix doesn't care. I've sent him things regarding forum moderation, Anti-etc related things, and a lot of other things he may actually be interested in. He has never once acknowledged anything I've sent him.

He didn't even reply to me when I questioned him about my support ticket regarding him practically stealing my money being ignored for, what, a month

Unixmad's lack of communication makes me doubt he listens to anything that doesn't come from a mod.
