What about the idea of having a virtual pet following you on servers? I wouldn't be that hard to add, and there are not a lot of servers doing similar stuff yet.

do something new maybe, not classic ??????

i seen it on 1 server for a time .. but it got removed i think'
it wasnt following the gani you had, just your x&y so it was using the walk & idle ani'
(might been utopia i seen it on? chris?)

Could have been zodiac, I made something similar.

On some ideas, how about trading cards which give you access to some skills games?

I want to play pool (on my mac) plz.

Perhaps also might be cool to have drawing recognition for Zodiac, so to cast a spell, you draw a symbol with your mouse? Not that hard to do (Have been doing similar things with LuaPlayer on DS)

Stick with this, please. No need to milk any more money by unleveling the field

I agree. It's a good way to get money in games like AdventureQuest where you don't really interact with others, but on a MMO game, it doesn't work well.

xXziroXx 06-05-2008 01:22 AM

Example of good ideas:

Card that let you...

* Go to special areas on servers.
* Beta test that new item on servers.
* Changes the way you/other players appear - CLIENTSIDED ONLY.

Example of bad ideas:

Card that let you...

* Changes the way you appear for other players.
* Gives you unfair advantages, ie raises your experienced gained on <servername> by 5%

Also, cards shouldn't be global. Each and every card should have to be accepted on a server by the server management. Note: this would only have to apply to GOLD, CLASSIC and HOSTED servers.

What if you're in an event where part of the point of the event is hiding, and you can see the other players easily?

So long as you can disable cards at a certain time (e.g. during events)

Ziro our goal is to make something interesting, not completely crippled. >_< What is working best (in almost all online games) is stuff that let you impress other people by your look, or give slight boosts.

Any ideas for those "special areas" and "new items" that would fit to the trading card concept?

Only for the people using it. Keep it fair if you don't want to lose customers because they can't afford to be equal.

Could be for example, a special dungeon on Zodiac that drop items that already exist on the server, but maybe with new baddies etc. (as long as it doesn't make the area any easier/harder then other areas for that level range)

Or... special items on Zodiac. Could have recolors/edits of currently existing weapons, and keep the default stats. That would make the item interesting, yet it wouldn't give an unfair advantage. Shouldn't be a edit of a rare or awesome item, since then it'd be unfair. Get what I mean?

I believe you're wrong there. Take MapleStory for example.. I haven't played it more then a few hours myself, but I noticed that all their items that they sell for real money are only for looks. Like different clothing, pets, hats... you name it.

kia345 06-05-2008 02:02 AM

Cosmetic changes are ok, as it doesn't really change the gameplay, or make it unfair to people who can't keep paying. Perhaps a pseudo-RC where they can write files straight to the heads folder to quickly upload their own things, or rights to a make a local guild on that server.

There are tons of things you could that aren't "crippled" or unfair.

DustyPorViva 06-05-2008 02:02 AM

The difference is though, Maplestory is free. So it's only fair that people are allowed to pay for stuff not available to everyone else.

It's not fair that people pay for Graal, yet others can still pay to have other advantages, even if they are looks.

I bet they're making a buck load of cash on just selling cosmetic changes though. It's not unfair in any kind of way, since they're just that - cosmetic.

DustyPorViva 06-05-2008 02:15 AM

It's unfair that we pay for a subscription and yet people are able to pay for more benefits, even if cosmetic. It's not always about actual advantages, looks are an advantage, even if just cosmetic.

My point is, if we're all paying to play, it's not fair that people can still pay for advantages.

As long as people aren't gaining unfair advantages, I'm not fuzzed about it.

kia345 06-05-2008 02:16 AM

Why are they called trading cards if they cost money to trade?

Perhaps, but it seems obvious that Stefan will not get rid of them since he generally does not listen to us. I think cosmetic is the way to go if the cards are here to stay.

Slight boosts are not good. Take gunbound for example. Once upon a time that game was all about experience, skill, and working for your items. Then they introduced cash items...things went to hell. Idiots were buffing themselves up with lame cash items, making it extremely hard to kill them unless the opponents were really good.

I'm all for NPC's that let you impress people, but do try to remember what Graal Online is all about again. The card system should just be "for fun", not a miracle.

Admins 06-05-2008 11:06 AM

The current items are just cosmetic but still you complain
Also I meant slight boosts, not making it unfair.

We would love to also make playerworlds more free and just charge for additional bonus, but the current servers are not really prepared for it yet.

A system with a cheap subscription to get access to more areas etc. and the possibility to buy additional items which give slight boosts is not that bad, again most games do that. Not many people complained that you need to pay for WoW content packs even though you have already an expensive subscription.

We want to provide fun new things to Graal. When I go on servers I often see people using the card effects, so they appearently like them. So lets work together to make the new cards interesting and not discuss about the fact that we must make money, that's pathetic.

A working invisibly effect is not what I would call cosmetic.

I'm sorry but going half invisible and shrinking your pixels making you much harder to see on Zone's arctic map (which is nearly white itself) is not exactly cosmetic.

The problem with slight boosts is that Graal, by tradition, has always been about skill. Skill which you gain overtime. When cash begins to replace skill, people will be upset. Graal has always been a fair game, some of us actually appreciate this.

It just depends on the boosts. If it's a fun little pk item that doesn't really do much and is mostly for show, that's fine with me. I think I speak for everyone when I say we don't want to see people using cash boosts to replace their own lack of skill in pking, events, and spars.

Card users are a minority, most people who don't have them usually don't like them because they are annoying. It's not that bad until people are trying to spar with it or gain some sort of advantage, even if it's a little one.

To come up with a lot of permanently visible effects is not as easy, but there are plenty of other places that you can add them. For instance, light/particle effects when you slash your sword, get hurt by something, lifting rocks/items, etc. Almost like short light effects that people will still be able to show off, but aren't there all of the time.

Crono 06-05-2008 01:46 PM

Maybe some custom walking sounds too? I remember MHX's leaders used to upload their own walking sounds on Delteria.

Custom walk ganis to make you look different than everyone else but not give you an advantage? I sure would. The trading cards weren't bought stand alone anyways, I thought they came with subscriptions.

I'm sure you've seen the bodies and graphically what they're restricted to, so how do you think 'custom walk ganis' are going to be made?

Gelats come with subscriptions, gelat packs are also sold individually, and you buy card booster packs from the shop using these gelats. Assuming player will want to buy cards for the effects they give (and not for the chance of getting them all and winning lifetime gold, which was the reason they sold the first time) I'm sure gelat packs would be a cheaper option than upgrading for nothing and having a few gelats on the side.

Hell no. But players are already paying for that one card that has nothing but a funky light effect around them.

Crow 06-05-2008 02:37 PM

I don't want any pets on Era. Pets overall are a bad idea for cards I think. They work fine for games like M**le St*ry, but thats because everything is the same, every server delivers the same world, quests and so on. Most games do that actually, Graal is one of the few not doing that, and thats the reason I think pets dont fit.

Edit: Damn, page 2 already. Edit in a couple seconds.

I actually like Ziro's ideas. They are pretty cool, beta testing is something you can impress people with. "I already saw this and that and tried out that other thing!!" "Woah, I want to do that, too."

Cosmetic? They aren't. Again the reference to M**le St*ry. You could add player transparency there, but that is because there is no PvP, it is fully PvE. In PvP, size an stealth effects are an unfair advantage.
Also, even "slight boosts" are unfair. Imagine just one single damage more on your weapons on Era. This would be unfair, because in some cases it takes a full hit less to kill somebody.
Also, why complain about WoW expansions? That's a friggin lot of fresh, new content, and you only have to pay for it once. The monthly subscription stays the same.

The actual fact most people like the dwarf and stealth card is because it is harder to fight you in PvP. That's a fact. If you tried playing against somebody using those cards on Era you will know what I mean. Fun is something else.

Admins 06-05-2008 02:44 PM

Well pets would probably only work on the servers where they fit. On Zone there could be robotic pets (mech bomys) and on classic-style servers there could be classic-style pets. I also liked the idea of having a small copy of yourself following you, like a doll.

I hope those pets aren't very good. If it is like a gosh darn spar bot then I'll be worried because of how unfair that would be. Maybe they could use the baes as a little pet and it could carry you a little faster across the map.

Zodiac (for example) already have "follow me puppets" scripted, and introducing a card that would give a pet to you on any server would ruin the purpose of the already scripted ones on Zodiac.

Flying technology cards, each set enables a different type of flying technology. If it costs so much to experience it, we won't forget it as easily, and you guys will still have bread

Then we won't be able to purchase it, no one will have it, and it'll be another 2 years before we get to actually use it.

I dislike the idea of cards that enable you to do something (e.g. flying technology) since then servers can't use that to build something important (can only be for visual, but can't actually be as a transportation, etc)

Shakram 06-13-2008 07:10 PM

in my eyes it would be better if you sell items, effects or what ever
special made for servers (not global) instead of cards which work on any server :O

like on zod :
you can add something that let you level faster for some days
i think nobody cares if someone levels faster than other people because in the end all people are same strong because of the level cap...
there are people who have work to do in rl and if they get money there they can spend it for items like this
because they dont have so much time to play
or like they said before a key to a special dungeon where old weapons drops in new colors or with new skins :O

on other servers you can add different things so nobody has probs with effects which works on some servers but ugly on others
but pls talk to the managers of the servers about this before adding things :)

i have no prob to pay for special things in a game which costs something at all :O
in wow its the same with the trading card game there you can get special things like a turtle mount too...
i can say so far that i will add places for special items on symphonia :)

Yes, we do care. However, something like a gold sword with the same stats wold be fair

If you don't play, than of course don't expect to be as good at the game as others. In life, you don't get to say, "Oh, I was doing something else".

Shakram 06-13-2008 07:36 PM

yeah but wheres the prob to become lvl 60 faster :O
if you play intensive you need between 1 and 2 days to become lvl 60 on zod
lvl 60 dont bring you the lvl 55 equip from tw or the new lvl 60 weps from pyramide
without this items you dont have a chance against the hardcore gamers at all ^^

and no i dont say this because i want to be lvl 60 faster
i have my 4 lvl 60 chars there

Cards should NOT give you an advantage. That is the problem.

Shakram 06-13-2008 07:42 PM

thats why i said cards are stupid ideas ?
its not an advantage if you level faster lol
in the end it brings you only the fact that you become lvl 60 faster
on zod a lvl 60 without the right equip means nothing
if you lvl faster you kill lesser mobs so you get lesser drops too

i dont know if you play more mmos than graal but there are a lot who sell items which give you more exp...

He's right, it doesn't matter if you level faster. In the end if you're a "noob" with a lvl 60 you still suck.
