Even changing it to green can change a lot of things, especially when working with sprites at a small level. Red is good because it stands out against the skin colors, green would just blend in and 'cause a mess. I'm sure whenever people see green stuff splatter out from a body when it's hit, they know it's blood. I think servers should be allowed more 'mature' content, such as blood, if they force the player to agree that they old enough and such, as any other terms of agreement.

Sound could be a huge factor in this if you did it effectively

DustyPorViva 06-22-2007 06:33 AM

Sound is a definite factor in the horror genre, and even attempting to do a horror server without putting huge effort into sound and music would be idiotic.

lol <3

But i am pretty sure if there is a disclaimer before the player gets onto player. Like saying this is rated M for Blood, Violence and whatever. And they have to agree to the disclaimer then that gets stored in a mudlib so if Graal gets introuble for some odd reason there would be proof that they read the disclaimer. hehe

GK and Era have blood too, what are you guys on about?

Of course they know its blood, but its not blood like human and animal blood, therefore it detaches from reality somewhat to make it more acceptable.

This is the 21st century, nobody with a reality check is going to care. Why the hell would it even need to be detached from reality, its a 2D game. I've always considered making blood effects with the particle system but I'm too lazy. I would make people click some agreement before they were able to turn the system on. If you're old enough to play Graal and use The Internet you're not going to be affected by some simple graphics.

<3 exactly. I mean come on half the things on Graal are far worse than just some pixel blood lol.

I still think a dead rising type of playerworld would be fun, just running around killing Zombies, saving helpless civilians, going on the odd quest, battling wackos, and confronting the military would ammount to a pretty fun server, but that is more action/suspense while your going with horror. I just prefer Zombies where they're more "normal looking". other wise It might be a pretty fun server.

Like 28 weeks later? I just watched that movie last night.

American society considers things like sex worse than blood and gore, etc. And any person who has enough knowledge about a computer to play Graal has most likely visited a website sexual in nature or been exposed to it at one time. I don't like how adults delude themselves into thinking children are so innocent in this day and age.

PrinceOfKenshin 06-22-2007 07:28 PM

You are a great example my friend i would have never guessed you were 14. It does make me mad that parents act that way. Lucky for me my parents don't. They just say "long as you don't repeat what you see or hear then you can watch/play it"

You can tear people open with a chainsaw on Zone and get blood too

I think those who can tolerate the level of profanity (however much policed) on Graal can tolerate the level of gore in this project, considering it being 2D and everything. We all know kids are growing up quicker.

Carmageddon = was a banned game. Unbanned when it changed its blood colour as it was said to 'decrease realism'.

I'm not going to argue much on this, but my opinion is: Non-Red blood reduces realism, there is no real reason or issue with non-red blood. But whatever, is CJs are ok with red, paint the town red.

I don't care, the ESRB is made up of a bunch of conservative idiots who don't really know how the mind of the younger generator works in this day and age. The re-rating of GTASA and Oblivion are testament to that. Its just proof of their stupidity that they actually think the color of blood makes a difference to anyone playing the game.

I don't really understand how anyone can think the color will make a difference, if someone holds a neon-pink gun to your head that you know is a wanted criminal are you going to be any less afraid than if the gun was silver or black?

I would be more afraid because I would think they must be crazy. Crazy people with guns are never a good thing.
