And I think it's high time that regulation was rethought. It was important at the dawn of P2P that no servers have exceptions - because enough people were still hanging around the proverbial parking lot complaining about how they had to pay, it would have caught on like wildfire, hacks would come out - it woulda been messy.

Now the parking lot's empty. So now we can start letting in a few people who didn't pay for a few minutes.

What happened to guest accounts, which were supposed to be the future of the game and have plenty of convincing power for consumers to upgrade accounts?

Crono 12-09-2006 09:03 PM

Guest accounts = bad idea in my opinion but whatever. :(

Tyhm 12-09-2006 09:48 PM

Scrapped, I think.
A Guest Account could either be pretty much the same as a Regular Account, in which case they never upgrade (and become a security risk), or pretty much the same as a Ghost Account, in which case why bother?

Thus, they should do passwords. Pretty much the same as a really annoying regular account.

p2p_Sir_Link 12-10-2006 05:37 AM

I see nothing wrong with switching to guest accounts since they claimed their would be a time limit on playability. Simply offer the accounts something, allow them to save but stop progressing on servers at a certain point (I.E, on Kingdoms, don't allow them to level past 10). Give them an incentive, and if they choose to pay, let them keep the stuff they got while trials.

Coincidence.

Tyhm 01-02-2007 01:04 AM

Whoa, this place IS a whirlpool...Chimpy just missed the latest Ragnarok incarnation, apparently Floydian left right before I became active again, Com013 poked his head in a few weeks ago...

war99k 01-05-2007 04:03 AM

Enough said :\

They "got rid" of classic a loooong time ago Mafukie.

Torankusu 02-09-2007 11:10 PM

I think classic's overworld and key-remembered quests should be integrated into a new revived classic-style playerworld.

I think that the overworld should be changed and it should be set in the future of Graal's history, but not have elements like what graal 2001 did. The economy and lack of questing destroyed it.

For a better example, those who remember the Old Graal quests on Classic can have a pretty good idea of what I am talking about.

Because you guys are all right in a way. Classic can't necessarily go away, it's what brought many of us to this game in the first place. But I honestly don't see a future that resembles anything like what its past once was. And Converting things is going to be quite a bit of work.

Kristi 02-10-2007 01:26 AM

Converting the overworld and all the levels at this point would be a bad idea simply because it is outdated. Classic was not the same thing since 1998. quests were added and things were updated and changed. What Tyhm did to classic was very different then what it was years before it, and it was for the better.

At this point, the quests were too simple and easy and show the limitations of the past we do not have anymore. Why put the effort in to converting something thats way subpar when you can take the same ideas and story and make something new with old concepts, displaying the current power the graal engine has.

The current idea, as it has been for the past month or two, is to make a complete connected story with old concepts and characters alongside more material. Something that was completely written out ahead of time, with every quest relating to one another. Not just random quests that have nothing to do with each other. A full story.

This is what I and a few others thought, so now, this is what is being done. Large progress has been made. At this point you cannot release a quest or two, it just has to be completely redone.

Tyhm 02-10-2007 03:38 AM

Maybe we need a list of what makes Classic Classic.

Nafets river, and the bridge, and Fuitad's house.
Brother's House. The Golden Gate. The aliens that are awesome at maths and say Thank you for making that.
Master Li's quest.
Some form of the lizardon caves.
Some form of the Gnome quest.
Some form of Ninji Castle.
Some form of Avalon and (regrettably, the force-uploaded) Destiny.
Supernick's. Burger Refuge. Level13.
Angel Clan.
The Wedding Chapel.
The Swamp.
The pub in the middle of the swamp.
Kull's Castle.
Sardon's Tower.
Zol's Snow Town.
Zol's Pub.
The Desert.
The Mace.
Bowling.
Vangel's Chapel.
Giant beds.

The genius of the old Classic map was that you could Learn it, and build shortcuts. On Kingdoms, if you need to get from Point A to Point B, the shortest path is a straight line - relatively few barriers, none you can't Just Kinda Walk Around. But Classic, to get to Kull's you gotta go up to Vangel's Chapel, give that guy his boots...To get from the swamp to the Snow Town you can't just go straight, you gotta take the bridge (or Fuitad's water slide) through Graal City, take the path behind SuperNick's/NL's to the dirt area, go through Nearorner/Onnett, across a little ways, up the stairs...

I generally object to Server Wipes. It only results in people re-doing other peoples' work and releasing the same ammount of content after months of work that was there in the first place. If that means continuing with the current system and worldmap, so be it - here's some features that ought to be retained, but by all means, update the Lizardon Caves as long as they're Done in some as long as you update while converting, instead of after...'cuz that sucks.

im taking it a step further where youve used items you've aquired to make shortcuts, like you can climb a mountain and knock down a certain tree if you find it, so you can hookshot to that fallen tree afterwards, or things along such lines.

Infernix 02-10-2007 05:37 AM

Classic is on the list to be removed as well as the other servers. Its just that well, they dont have any servers to replace classic and those other dead servers at the moment. But when they do (if ever) I'm sure they will be removed from the classic list. (May keep classic status though)

Torankusu 02-10-2007 06:39 AM

Wait now, so what is going on with classic? I see Hell Raven saying one thing, and Tyhm listing another.

I'm interested in seeing something like what you guys are talking about come back to Graal.

Tyhm is listing things that are old concepts of classic, what I said is actually happening, since I am in charge of it. Tyhm is a smart man and a previous developer so i am more then happy when he throws out a good list as such

However, Classic is focusing on that medevial zelda feel under my wing, so burger refuge has to go. Eldandy's love shack is coming back. Besides, all good rpgs have a brothel involved quest.

Change the name please. It just wouldn't be the same...

Does this mean things like the Milk Carton body will be removed also? I like the promotion of consistency, but milk carton's running around? Seriously.

Tyhm 02-10-2007 06:31 PM

I feel we disagree on the definition of "Classic". I never cared for many of the anachronisms: burger refuge being one, ATM cards, motorcycles, etc. Some of it can be explained using the timeline that I only partially implemented, where Graal's about 800 years in the future, after we've all nuked ourselves back to the stone age and worked our way back up to swords and simple explosives...but refined gunpowder's proving elusive in this strange new world, making it hard to make anything smaller than a bomb "stable".

So what is Classic? A medeval server like Kingdoms? A staplegunned together server of competing guilds forever reeling from Pachuka's insistence that, having made half the world once, he won't allow his old levels re-uploaded? A world of broken quests to explore with no knowing what links will forever wall you or what quests will waste your time?

Eldandy's Love Shack is a fine name. B52's yo.

I can tell you right now that it doesn't have that feel. What are you guys doing to bring that zelda feel?

Having quests that require you to beat them to get items and story to move to the next. =P standard zelda.

Tyhm, not only is it a fine name. It was what was there before Burger Refuge and a few others. I know you never cared for the anachronisms, but all the classic servers are doing it! I still think of Graal as Zeldaonline, and so I think Classic should emulate the Zelda roots. Most of that list that doesn't contain anachronisms will exist as part of the story. I am actually glad you mentioned Kull. He slipped my mind and fits in perfectly for a plot point.

Infernix 02-10-2007 11:31 PM

Well Im guessing your going to have bosses that dont look like **** and thus that means your going to have some of the best graphic artist on graal.

The original quest, likewise, was 99% Baddies. I mean, literally, there were 5 versions of the main hall, all with different doors open and different baddies present. No flags, no strings, no keys, no door NPCs, all 1-way warps and baddies, with a tiny bit of programming for Kull himself - which I believe was literally "When hit, warp player to next stage of Kull. Once a second, shoot a rockball."

Which brings us to the standing issue of It'd be really nice if the Global Scripters scripted a Basic Baddy for General Use...

Yeah...that was me...I'm still waiting for Stefan to respond to his PM...if I had access to the Kingdoms baddies, I could learn from them and adapt the old clientside baddy script accordingly. Really, it'd just be a question of changing the attack range and so forth; the Dievil/Rabbit/Mushroom/Shellbomy/Evilbomy/TRex practically IS a Lizardon otherwise.

Im scripting baddies to work with my new system. When its all said and done I might make the code public. The baddies have customizable physics and all that nonsense

Tyhm 02-11-2007 02:59 AM

Cool, lemme know if you need the ganis. (I think I've posted them already...but I may not have)

Hehehe, oh man the good ol' days

WHIPENIE4 05-19-2007 12:21 AM

if it has more then 20 players on it, thats considered good compared to the other. well nevermind. its 3rd. But i could care less. The only people I remember play Classic. why bring this up every other month? let it be dead with all 24 of us on it :). If they delete Classic, I delete me :) which everyone would like. so... yeah.
