AS FOR THE PIC... your looking at it straight on.. there should be a little bit of the top showing, at an angle peoples.. make it 3d, the pole should be rounded at the bottom, not flat, that may help

And theres NOTHING wrong with using black outlines, as long as you know HOW to use them. I for one, <3 black outlines.
