Thallen 08-10-2004 03:28 AM

I believe when my account password was stolen, someone tried pulling this same stunt, and got the account globally banned. I guess Loriel gets special treatment though, right?

Same here, except it was only my forum account...something better be done because the clickable link was up there long enough for many people to click on it. Maybe I should ban him....

Maybe you should ban yourself? That's like, a good idea too? Right? Him being a Global, Loriel knows the consequences had he used any information he gained. It's the users fault for falling for such an easy prank. I doubt Loriel, had he even gained a username or password, would even do anything with it. Having and using information are totally different things.

That's sweet (Ha, a pun.) coming from you. Do you mean to tell me you have never made any pranks or tricks against anyone?

Assuming loriel did have such a thing, would it not be more wise to understand that to be a demonstration of how these new thread tags could be misused rather than an attempt to steal people's passwords? The latter could be expected of a lowlife antigraalian, but Loriel is not such.

Some of you folks want respect for your positions, I say: give some in return. Don't disrespect Loriel by categorizing him with the low.

MagicalTux 08-10-2004 09:58 AM

Anyway I'm going to block such things.

Hey, I have before, and I was banned for it. Why do I get harsh treatment, yet global staff doesn't?

Er.. you could of simply pointed that flaw out, instead of trying to use it..

Very uncool, but hey, I guess Thallen's new word 'favoritism' is going to stick with you Loriel. Good job.

Hey, it was a practical experiment with value beyond a simple pointing-out that nobody would have listened to.

That is cool, but why would anyone listen to such lying and slandering folks like Thallen?

Yea, and nemesis was once trusted also....Loriel could have discussed this with MagicalTux instead of putting it on the forums.
Gee, what did we learn on the forums today kids?
We learned how to exploit a bug to steal account/passwords.
Like I said, if a normal member had done this, even if they were trying to "show a flaw", they would have been immediately banned (I wont catorgorize regular members as low lifes, sorry).
Noone is saying Loriel is a low life, but they are pointing out that he was wrong in what he did, and the fact that anyone else would have been banned...........

loriel is the type of global who's quiet and knows how to do naughty things but his leet global powers stops anything from happening to him.

ps.Thallen's banishment on GK was unjust

Doing and having are two different things. Both are illegal, actually, if I remember correctly.

And it doesn't matter if it's "lol ez prank." Not everybody is computer savvy here.

Pot (to kettle): lol ur black lol

In closing, don't take pitty on him just because he's a global. That's called corruption, kiddies. We already have enough of that on graal. Take out the /banhammer.

That would be an interesting opinion, if you had any insight that would qualify you to make a judgement. Which is not the case.

Oyeah, ok, i'll just take your word for it, since i instantly trust some text on my computer screen enough to believe it when it says that :)

No man, suddenly donning a low self esteem and claiming that nobody would have listened to you is not a valid reason.

Kaimetsu 08-10-2004 03:33 PM

This is stupid. Do you people even know what bans are for? What possible purpose could be served by removing Loriel from the community?

Would you trust some other text to convince you otherwise?
And, what the hell would I do with stolen accounts?

That is not an issue of lack of self esteem, but one of ignorance.

Let's not forget, we dont know you...even if we have talked to you on these forums or on Graal for several years, we still dont know you....just like noone really knew Nemesis. When you put that crap on these forums, you put all kinds of doubt in peoples minds, whether that was your intention or not (I would seriously change my password if I clicked on that link, which I will because I dont remember if I did or not now x.x).

You were 100% wrong, why dont you just suck it up, and admit that what you did was not the appropriate way to do things.
You did it on purpose to see how many members would fall for it because you thought it would be funny...now that is real professionalism there from a global member of this community

I will tell you what purpose it would serve, it would tell the members of this community that we are all equal when it comes to the rules....that globals are not exempt from following the same rules that the rest of the community have to follow

Clicking of links cannot steal passwords.
Quote:

You were 100% wrong
You were `` 100% wrong '' repeatly before, and failed to realise that. What makes you think that you can now judge wrongness to that extent?
Quote:

Eh? Perhaps because there is the slim possibility that your opinion, despite the passion you spread it with, is not the only choice.
Quote:

You certainly are able to understand that just saying `` hey, [imgr]-tags can be abused, remove them '' would not have changed anything.
I have been trying to contact Robert to fix this, he apparently ignores me.

Well, if you say so.

I do not think that you are one to speak of professionalism, especially with such a professional emoticon. You still refuse to invest any thought beyond pure flaming into what happened, so your repeated attacks to not prove any point.

I wish that was true.

Not arguing any other point, I would like you to quote the exact rule I broke.

Goboom 08-10-2004 05:29 PM

There is also no proof that that form "stole" passwords from users also if it did steal passwords it would only steal the forum password, its your fault if you choose not to change your forum account password to something diffrent than your Graal Account Password.

All that Loriel really could have done is make the dumb people that fell for this "prank" sound more intelligent by posting for them.

Moonie, you have to look at more than one side of the picture.
The globals now-a-days are too "ban hammer" happy.

Exactly .

MagicalTux 08-10-2004 06:17 PM

Loriel, next time, you should just PM me, it would save you, me and everyone from a lot of trouble.

Now I'd like everyone to calm down a bit. Don't answer too fast, and think before posting. Make intelligent posts, not flood, and stop saying "It's xxx fault" or things like that, it looks like a "Kindergarden" (I forgot the english word, so you'll have the german one... Stefan's influence, probably...)

Ok, let me get this straight then...it would be ok if someone else did the same thing, and it would be the members fault for falling for it? It doesnt make people dumb to click on a link in someone's sig, not everyone thinks that everyone else is out to hurt graal or it's members, I had my forums account password stolen already, one time because I clicked on a link that appeared to be a valid forum link...sound familiar? I am certainly not stupid, but I will never click on another link again, heck, I dont even know that I want to click on any link on the forums again, except that I have to, because it's my job to make sure links are appropriate =/

I see both sides, I really do....but the appropriate thing to do would have been to discuss this in private with Robert, not exploit it on the forums, no matter what the reason for doing it. Loriel, I said that you did what you did for fun because you actually told me that, not because it was my opinion....

Just because Robert didnt reply, doesn't mean he wasn't working on the problem

Goboom, that last part of your post really shocked me...as if to say it would be ok for Loriel to steal the forum account to make the members seem more intelligent...who are you to say they are not intelligent, and why do you make it seem as if this would be right?

I have been on Graal for many years, I think I have learned what is legal and what is illegal, I have seen what people get banned for, and what they have not gotten banned for, and I have also watched some globals abuse things because they know they can...tell me, Loriel...If someone had sent a link on GK or whatever place you work on, that was like the link that you had on here, what would you have done?
Quote:

I am not trying to flame anyone, I am trying to make a point...the point being that a global should not get away with doing something illegal just because he thinks he has a legitament reason for doing so

I don't remember you were on my ICQ list... and I don't see you in.

If you are not on my ICQ list, all messages you send are ignored. Also when I'm at the office (the only place where I use ICQ), only a few people can see if I'm online and can contact me. Other's messages are not displayed.

If you have something to tell me, forums PM is the best way.

You completely make sense here. You know, if we let people get away with doing good things, very good things might happen, and we do not want that, do we?
