have you been paying attention? many people prefer to do it offline, for one you don't have to connect to do random stuff, you don't have to worry about being d/c and losing work, and the other stuff

I'm really tired of hearing this disconnect arguement... You don't realize that it is automatic and saves, you won't lose ANYTHING because it updates it as you work... >.<

Then i was right....Basically NO need for an offline editor once the online version is released.

Crono 06-18-2004 12:42 PM

What if you want to undo the save? What if after you place some tiles it looks fugly and you want to revert back? What if the whole level ends up looking like crap and you have to delete it and get the old one there?

What if you're making a practice level (since we have to do it online these days) and some other LAT comes, steals the level's styles/themes/paths/etc, and puts it on his level? Who's going to stop him? How CAN you stop him? People will end up being able to view all your practicing/training.

How about when you're actually using the offline editor? Stefan says the level editor will stay in the 2.x versions but what if the level editor is enchanced on 3.x? What if there's tile layers? What if the tileset just changes and pics1.png is no longer supported? What if the level format changes to .gk instead of .graal/.nw?

What should you do if you have a big ass assignment and your isp just drops on you like a bomb? It's happened to me. Then what.

Save the old level as with the new level....Just give them different filenames and use the one you want.

Crono 06-18-2004 05:29 PM

Why do that when offline solves that problem for you?

Ehh....They just need to keep both...Bottom line...I think the online editor should be an addition...Offline should be kept.

goodbuu 06-18-2004 11:18 PM

Your all missing the point of this.

Crono 06-19-2004 12:14 AM

Thank you for elaborating?

Keep the old Graal version on your comp, it's not that big of a deal. If your "ISP drops" as you put it, I really doubt the playerworld needs your level at that very moment, they can wait until it comes back up =/
Also, if you listened and read what I posted, I'm making it so that you have the option to enable copylevels=true or so to where if you're editing the file ps.nw, then it copies to ps_edit.nw and you actually edit that. Then you do something such as /savelevel to save it completely to the ps.nw, or you do /revertlevel and it will recopy it over. It's not that complicated =/ Also maybe adding of a history so you can "undo" changes... will see about that. I'm planning on putting in a lot of options so each server can go in, set like:
copylevels=false
defaulttileset=newtiles1.png
logupdates=leveleditor_log.txt
Something along those lines, will see how it goes. Will be strings. I've begun working on it, unfortunately it will update it so you can see the changes, but calling 'update level' before 5-10 minutes will erase changes. It seems to only save after that period of time. So to make it permanent, you have to make the changes and wait, therefore I've been experimenting with a few different methods, and also working on perhaps editing of gmaps, but editing of gmaps becomes a little bit more difficult with the old engine (simple with new engine). Anyway, depending of the time I can put into this (also working on recoding the latest aquisition of Projectshifter Group), I hope to have an alpha version this week or middle of next at the latest.

Your fancy plan sounds good but on to your answer.

Read what else I said about graal versions :/.

It -IS- a big of a deal. I just can't explain it properly. -_-

No, I would not like a Global Level Editer.

I would, however, be quite enthused over a Global Level Editor.

Urm...

This is actually Tsu, I'm posting on my friends account at his house. Since moonie banned mine for thinking differently, and even removed my Signature xD I'll be back in about a week...

Anyways, I'm very confused on why you would want to remove the offline editer, but they were going too do it anyways. You'll get used to it. This entire conversation is basically, "OMG WUT IF MY AOL GOES BLOOOUM AND I LOSE ALL ME WORKY/!" Well, basically, it should save the level everytime you edit something. So, it will still be there. they can script it that way.

Um...see you all in about a week.

-Tsu (Thank you Slave for letting me use his account AT HIS HOUSE THAT I AM CURRENTLY AT to post this.)

Are you talking about yours or the v3 one? Either way, I hope you don't mean automatic updating with updateboard2 (I doubt thats what you mean though), if you are, ick. Updateboard isn't exactly something I would like to depend upon to save my work untill I get back anyway x_x. Besides, it still means I have to sign on and work on a playerworld just to be able to develop anything within an updated editor, and that's no fun.
P.S. don't get all huffy before plugging in lost information

Don't worry if Stefan takes out the offline level editor. I got your (and all other level editors) back. ;)

Lucreto 06-27-2004 07:50 PM

*cough* When i was a ****(wtf n-o-o-b is censored o_o?) i thought staff were able to edit the levels online but what did i know >_>. Sounds rather interesting anyways though it dosent affect me since I dont make levels >;P

Malinko 06-27-2004 09:21 PM

I just don't like how RC will be on the game. That means I have to get on player >_<. But I like it how it's transparent, really nice :D, good job to whoever did that.

Level editor, heck if I know, I don't make levels, well outside, insides > outsides.

GoZelda 06-27-2004 09:47 PM

No, I'd rather have an online level editor.

Ack, Lance beat me to it.

I bolded the O, that's fine enough.

Crono 06-27-2004 10:29 PM

Nah. Online level editor = offline level editor trashed. No real reason to trash it other than finally making it possible for them to have 100% claim on all levels to be made :|
