McGee's ideas are good... abit rough around the edges ( the idea of leveling, but not leveling?? ) but good...

Desolators are good, and I guess he explained the class idea better... From FF1, you were a Fighter, then you went to that one shrine place (in Graals case, itd be a shrine where you went when you became lvl <insert lvl here> to advance) and you were granted the ability to become the next class, i.e. expanding your powers like, 10fold...

Satrek2000 12-02-2003 12:17 PM

First, I'd rather not talk about additions like bridges when we're still at mumbling about the general system to be improved.

How about this - it should be easier to implement, methinks: when you level, the exp required for each level increases, as we all know. Also, the exp gained drops. My idea whould be this: first, make it so that you gain ac and speed for leveling agility and, say, cha for personality, to give these skill-groups a point. Also, make it so that the overall level also influences your strength for phys, magic and wisdom. Then, you add a system for these additions (all of them, wc for phys etc) that you only get it every few levels, the number increasing with each step. For examply, you get one each level till level 10, then you get one for 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20, then 23, 26, 29, 32 and 35, then 39 and so on. I think, while it sounds complicated, it might serve as a kind of loose gap, still allowing players to level and gain from it, but keeping them closer together.

Monkeyboy_McGee 12-02-2003 08:00 PM

Oooh, i like the idea of sub-classes! It'd be like Seiken Densetsu 3, one of my all time favourite games O_O
You could have the classes relative to the classes you chose at the start, and you could go to your chosen god in order to change class.

So like, you choose a starting class of...priest, say.
You level up until class-changing level, then choose a god you want to get a class from. If you went to say Govannon or something, you'd change into a Monk class (as in fighting kung-fu funky monks ;) ) and if you went to say brigid, you'd be made like a bishop or something (which would have advanced healing'n'regeneration'n'healing prayers'n'stuff).

Or an alternative, which would be very complex indeed, would be to have different sub-classes from each god, and those came from the start classes.

So it'd be
-priest-
-> Worship govannon
-----> Fighting Monk
-----> Paladin
-----> Some other spoony class

-> Worship Bile
-----> Plague Bearer
-----> Necromancer
-----> Some other spoony class (lol, as you can see, it'd be hard to think up lots of different classes)

etc etc etc, anyway, you get the idea ;)

Satrek2000 12-02-2003 08:07 PM

Hm... if done properly, such a system might help... I think best would be a system where - as it is now - every class can do everything, but with certain penalties. So you could be fighter, mage, priest and farmer at the same time, but only at 25% the efficiency as someone concentrating on any one if these... to set it apart from the actual system, you'd have to alter the exp gained though... and apply some changes to help mages and priests keep up with fighters in combat (i.e. casting speed). Otherwise, everyone would go for the fighting classes. If sub-classes depended on gods, I'd say the gods need a redo - nobody would chose Brigid if it means to be helpless till way up.

I'd have thought Paladins would be more Dianchect

Paladin's are rather more knights, or a 'cross-breed' of Mage and Warrior.

Monkeyboy_McGee 12-03-2003 12:21 AM

Yeah, plus...wait no, im thinking of Aegnus. But yeah Aegnus could be like ranger ->archer, longbowman, scout, sniper or something like that ;)

what if they just warped from one side to the other? sure it would be un-even, but it would work..

*edit* SORRY! i forgot the whole bridge thing was over!

anywho, it wouldn't be a sniper, it'd be a sharpshooter

also, I'm glad you all like my sub-class idea...

i think what should allow you to choose a certain sub-class would be skills (A La AD&D 3rd edition) so, say you had fighting and say a crit hit skill (which uppes your chances of getting crits) you could become a monk.. fighting and Holy Affination ( better chances of the gods liking you and giving you stuff) you could be a paladin (or dark paladin, depending on god :p) it should work like that...

Graal Kingdoms needs:
1. Staff
2. Balance
3. Content

Staff to keep things in working order, be the sponges of problems, host events on a regular basis.

Balance... duh... if I have to explain this then say so...

Content... what makes a game fun and enjoyable for a long time? A lot of ingame things to do, see, and interact with. Not just with kingdoms, but things you can do on your own as well. Content means, levels, graphics, animations, and anything else you can think of. And no... not just a bunch of pointless things just placed all over. Maybe endless side quests... sequence of missions to make certain npcs talk to you.

Y'know what Kaimetsu one said? That the liked all this tiny things build in a game, lick a wall clock actually working etc.
That's what would make the present Graal, without really much effort, a lot interesting. I mean, add some townspeople. If you touch them, they say random stuff, something from a selection of 20 questions, and you can also answers and so on. And if you insult them, they might attack, depending on how insulting the insulting insult is, and their mood. Yeah, it'd be cool if they also had a certain mood, and moved around a bit.

By acknowledging it through saying you'll ignore it? :rolleyes:

Anyway, I agree that details would imptove GK. Townspeople or general folk would be great, if done properly and without much lag.
More furniture and ways to interact might help, too - a vase comes to my mind, a container holding up to 5 flowers which it displays.
Maybe you could give stuff the townspeople and get reactions, so if you give a girl a flower she will be in some way friendly to you - no, not like that - give you some information, or something to eat, that sort f thing.
To mention my all-time-fav, the forts, I'd love to see them with some additional room for interaction, say a room to pray in for priests (people with priest-ranks), where their prayer-energy will load a shield arround the fort to repell enemy prayers, same for mages (hit a target to charge the corresponding shield), also you could have magical weapons fastened to the fort walls, which are strnger than bows and draw from the pool of magical energy supplied...
Make wars a rp-ish possibility. A war system, preventing those killed from rejoining a battle, and add stuff for spellcasters to participate properly (see forts).

There are many good ideas arround, ideas that might work, without redoing the whole class system, they just need to be done... :\

Splke 12-04-2003 06:33 AM

Seiken Dentensu is your favorite game? O_O Wtf man.. I beat that thing in like, 18 hours... :(

Uhh, Now you guys are implimenting gods into the class system, which is a way to do it, but if we're going to have a balanced person, i.e. a warrior who can only fight, not cast 10 icestorms then weild his giant axe then we dont want to impliment gods into classes all-togather...

On the other hand, a Paladin is a Knight who's decesended (sp) down the path of rightousness and holyness, those who worship one god and so on... SO, I spose there could be a pally for any god... o-o

Still, I'm talking an idea of...

Warrior lvl 15 required to become --> Knight

or something among that... then theres the further stage of melee or prayers or magic... something like that... i.e.

Knight lvl 25 to become --> Paladin of <insert gods name>
Knight lvl 25 to become --> Sword-dancer (Magic using melee)
Knight lvl 25 to beomce --> Swordsman (all melee class)

and class' like that to be worked out for each and every class... just an idea yall

Desolator12 12-04-2003 06:38 AM

*starts swearing incoherently... somethimes the word "STAUFER" can be heard*

((band teacher... eeevill... we just had our first night rehersal, and he was just P'ing me Off...god, i'm quitting band next year...))

anywho, I'm trying to work on a fort image... the wall is dine, and the gate is done... i now need a catwalk-like thing and some stairs leading to it... puls a building inside with a flag on it... then there's the scripting....

Geno 12-04-2003 08:07 AM

For those talking about preistage classes, those are interesting ideas the gods one is rather iffy and won't work in rational causes
As for gaining a preistage class my system goes as follow
Lets say our "hero" has reached level 20, which means his can learn a preistage class...Why level 20? Because a blacksmith doesn't become a master after learning how to smith and craft with copper. Priestage classes should be looked at...How your character progresses over time, but anyways. Our "hero" has filled the requirements to train as a paladin and the requirements for legionnaire or can just stay as a fighter. Our "hero" decides to follow the path of a paladin...He then is given several trials and quests which would include a trial of honor and a quest of faith, aswell as a few others...Once these trials and quests are complete our "hero" is and will level up as a paladin from then on out.
Our "hero" will only beable to level 10 times as a paladin (Meaning 20 fighter levels + 10 paladin levels = 30)

Also as a side note: I do have a paladin as a preistage class which would be focused as a fighter but with low level preist spells (like level 1-3 preist spells or so) aswell as preistage class abilties and skills aswell as enhance previous abilties and skills

Well, he definetly made NO sense in the begginning, but the () totally made it seem cool... but a level cap of 30 is like... lame, 50 would be nice... 3 class choices... i.e. Lvl 20 hero + Lvl 10 Paladin + Lvl 10 Swordsman or something... more melee then priest, yada yada... dunno, this should SERIOUSLY be thought about... i like the idea...

Chances also are, you could buy a Classic playerworld, and create this entire thing right?

Considering that Stefen and Unixmad hardly ever browse forums idly like the rest of us, I highly doubt this great idea will reach them, as many before havent... But, it's simply the way things go... Tell him yourself if you feel the need :o

Desolator12 12-05-2003 04:28 AM

As soon as this thing called Christmas is over, and i have the bucks, I MIGHT get space for a playerworld...

when you get a PW, do you pay in one lump sum once, or keep paying until you stop paying and then the serv is removed until you pay again?

I wanted to create a Space-age RP serv (better than Val...oy!) and I did get the good 2 go from the whole playerworld acceptance thing for graal, but i dun have the $$$ :(

eru.. i think its large lump, since most people mass the "Can anybody pay for my server?" without mentionning the fact that it will fail and never become a classic server on the list...

Meh, space-age RP = meant to stay in space... no offense Luke, but the Force isnt with graal... Space age type stuff I find highly boring, and an RP for it would be mearly painful to do... no offense though, if you could pull it off, i'd be glad to see it..

Desolator12 12-06-2003 06:18 AM

actually, i'm hoping on basing it off a RPG that I'm in. It's futuristic, it's not in space, and it has elves, and men, and orkses... BUT, i don't think I'll base it off the RP directly, I think I'll base it off the RPG's creator's comic, Shadowtrash, "The streets are about to get a lot trashier"

though I THINK i'll have to leave the whole "Pizza****" idea out of it, or stefan will raise the ban stick...

Monkeyboy_McGee 12-12-2003 12:21 AM

That'd be quite interesting actually...like, every single thing involving elves and dwarves and orcs and stuff is all medievil-style stories and equippment and backgrounds. To see what becomes of these crazy lil' fantasy races in the -future- would be something altogether new.

Maybe the dwarves could shoot lasers from the tops of their axes...or i could get shot right now for saying that ;)

Amagius 12-12-2003 01:30 AM

My theorem: Elves and Orcs - fighting - burn up by a meteor while Humans were shipped away to Jamaica by the Orcs.

On REAL Topic: Ghostie has always been on the whole RP ideas thing.

Also, Axes with lasers on top is CORNY.
