So? Because its all in one client they have to make it run all at once? Level editor is in The Player executable. But I dont need the level editor to play graal will I need the player open to access RC? If we do its pure stupidity.

You bring up a good point. When Graal starts there should be a menu that lets you pick what mode you'd like to run in. And you should be allowed to open multiple modes at once. Each mode should have a separate window.

that's a very good idea...
it should be an option added in above 'ignore mass messages'

that would be very helpfull

Marty - Graal v3 doesn't have an offline editor, basically logging on a server will let an admin have access to everything, it's ganis, it's levels, it's npcs, it's RC, etc

Neoreno 09-03-2003 10:57 PM

...Then how are people expected to practice level-making skills?

Hmm.. this definatly presents a problem with upcomming level makers because I'm sure not going to train any. :p

My main concern will you have to be on all of them at once? Or can you like have gani maker and RC up at the same time but not the player account and vice versa? I'll have to spam you on aim when I get home for the details. :o

They will probably be made into seperate weapons, when I finish RC and RC v2 (my improvement on it, right now I am just scripting the current one so Stefan can add the features to let us do what we can right now on RC) I will either work on GraalShop or LevelEditor

draygin 09-04-2003 12:18 AM

But weapons to me would emply that for any of the programs to run a person would have to be on the player account. Very inefficient if they have to log onto a server just so they can make ganis. Because graal takes up a buttload of resources when its running.

zell12 09-04-2003 12:39 AM

Hey kid, I don't want to make levels for a server, just for personnel use, how do I do that then? What if I don't want to log onto a server to use RC (pointless if you ask me), I just get pmed twice as much.

Staff using the Remove Control shouldn't appear in the playerlist, but mabey when you press F12 or soemthing, it shows a list of the staff currently logged in RC and you can click them to send them messages... :o

TribulationStaff 09-04-2003 05:20 AM

The biggest problem remains that if the only way to edit anything is on a server, is that to learn the skills to become staff on a server you already have to be staff on a server.

ditto.

It's already that way with serverside scripting.

Ever wonder why there's a shortage of scripters?

I'm not saying this is the only reason, but it does contribute to it.

a /disconnect command on RC!! :D
and a /autoban command. So then you can have the NPC Server do your dirty work :)

(i.e for autoban, /autoban "reason" "time" and it would fill out the ban for you)

with autoban a autounban, so it basically clears the ban.

And mybe a autocomments comand?

-Time thanks to Excal :D

TribulationStaff 09-05-2003 04:57 AM

/autoban would be nice. Then it would be easy to write a temporary ban script with sendtorc.

Update:

Options is now being worked on / near completion. Sorry it has taken so long for such an easy step to be added but I've been busy with school and have been waiting for Stefan to add some features for it. Right now it is saving the options to a true or false value just and when the menu is opened it is loading it and checkmarking any value that is true. Here is the current menu, what I am looking for right now are more options to add, I believe most people will be pleased with these 4 but I want to add more :)
Note: Do NOT ask for 'Hide from Playerlist', I would think don't accept PMs is good enough

EDIT: No accepting PMs will PM a message back, something to the effect of 'Sorry, not accepting PMs right now', so don't ask / suggest that please :)

Projectshifter 09-05-2003 06:26 AM

I still love my external RC. I'm going to bug Stefan everyday to give NC at least external, and everyday he's going to tell me not possible ;)

Jagen, if the mass message ignoring includes staff masses, that's the best thing to be added to RC ever! :P

azuretek23 09-05-2003 08:30 AM

making the RC skinable based on the server you are logged into would be a tasty idea, I hate the way it looks right now and changing it would be so tasty...

--Chris-- 09-05-2003 08:38 AM

Not going to read all of these post so I'm unsure if this has been suggested....make it possible to check a player's profile from RC, if it already is possible and I haven't noticed all this time then feel free to put a dunce cap on my head.

Yes i agree also on skinable servers for both rc and client. I belive it should be done by if player enters they download the skin afterwards they need to reboot and the new skin displays. Also built in rc? Hellz nom there's no way am going to logg on rc just to be on player? Why should i? This feature for built in should only be for mac since they already have it soo i heared. Why make it bad for the rest of us? I for one don't like this idea of a rc on player. I mean come on add some new features but don't screw it up for the rest of us... Is this a reason for idle rc? Shouldn't there be a time stamp on people who are idle? You can have a script that simply you move your mouse over that person name and it would show how long the person been idle. Other features such as smiley on rc/welcome note (like updated news for staffs) are good features to start with. Gezze i swear if this happens i would quit graal.

I guess you will be quitting Graal. You guys seem to misunderstand what integration will mean. If implemented correctly there will be numerous advantages to both players and developers in comparison to standalone programs. Integration does not mean you have to run client mode to access RC (unless this is the plan, which would be a bad idea). It should mean that client mode and rc mode can be accessed individually or simultaneously using one program. I agree that this will be horrible with bad implementation, but I have confidence that this is inevitably a step forward for Graal. Lets just see what happens before we dismiss the idea.

Ok that's acceptable if it's a shortcut to a few clients when you load Graal Client. But I still don't want this built in crap i mean these ideas seems to be from Mr Python himself i mean afterall he did start the project without asking or letting anyone vote for the stuff? I mean gezze before you go running doing stuff atleast let people vote, secondly he seem like he doesn't want to hear that people still wish to have there external rc. I have seen 80% of people have voted they want there external rc and yet this dude continues on his own little project. Are you the only person who plays graal? I know he came on the board to ask for ideas but adding a built in clinet to graal would suck. I mean if i intend to help out a few other playerworlds and i have rc on 2 servers mean i must get on 2 clients? A built in client should be for mac only now windows. And he said we must minimize stuff gezze this guy want stuff his way. I like a few of his ideas to update the rc but not this one x.x I mean if we must add in more stuff to rc such as skins or emotions...ect wouldn't this cause more lag? Also i notice my rc laggs when am saving backup files of the server soo i guess my client would crash when i try to download 2000+ levels. Yes go ahead Python take away the fun for graal staff x.x

I was under the impression that Jagen is merely the mechanism by which STEFAN'S wishes and requirements are being met. So you can't really blame Jagen for merely doing what Stefan wishes him to do...

Sorry but my nick name Is Jagen, not 'Python', it says so in my profile, and sorry that I'm using Stefan's ideas, not my own, read the post, someone or I have said that Stefan wanted it integrated into the client, I just volunteered to work on it since he's, seriously, if you're going to quit because of making things easier to work with then oh well, no one is telling you that you have to be staff. Why mac when you also have linux? One reason Stefan wants to do this

Advantages:

It will be much more customizeable(sp? It's 5:30 am, I jsut woke up, I'm tired)

It will be much easier to add new features

Instead of uploading and opening the client you will be able to edit, then immediatelly see your changes and test them

Skins would be 100% scripted basically, once the new engine is released you can make gui profiles that define the images and colors and stuff, so skinning would be easy

I get the point that people want to external RC, I have nothing to do with it, I'm just working on my project so Stefan doesn't have to have another thing to finish, he's been staying up till 7am for the past few days he has so much work to do already, I just wanted to help him out, I don't know much c++ and I doubt he'd give me the source for the external RC so I can't really help with that

External RC will still be enabled I think, it just wont be updated anymore and have all the new features the scripted RC will have.

And finally, instead of assuming that I must be evil for wanting to help out and start bashing me, why not offer suggestions to add to it to make it better? -_- I thought I said I wanted constructive critisism, not 'omg he sucks omgomgomgomghestakingaway my stuffzimgsdidf'

draygin 09-05-2003 04:37 PM

Beware the one eyed python.. ermm I mean snake. :p

You're in direct contact with Stefan tell him every one wants the option to not be on player at the same time. So we can choose which one we want to be on. ;)

Oh I know one thing I've always hated! Make it so RC's massing on player accounts are treated as regular mass messages and only mass messages on RC are the ones that go through ignoring regular mass messages. (not sure if with the new set up its one and the same)

marcoR 09-05-2003 09:36 PM

it really couldn't be too hard to make a RC in the client... and OUT of the client, I mean.. you just take the script.. and do some more stuff I don't understand, could you not make TWO versions? what if i'm on a pentium with 16mb of ram, and a 500mb hard drive? hmm? how am I going to run RC... *EXAGERATION!!!*

you get the idea, tho I assume you're going to repeat yourself about how stefan want's it...

zell12 09-05-2003 10:25 PM

Jagen, we made tons of suggestions, we just hate not having the external RC, it is an Administrative tool, not something that should be added in the public client.

adam 09-05-2003 11:32 PM

I must be the only one who likes the idea of a scripted RC? Sheesh.

That's a rather ignorant statment. Especially considering the primary concern isnt wether its scripted or not but wether or not we have to be on our player account to be able to be on RC as well. Which I'm guessing if Jagen is scripting it we will have to but I could be mistaken on that part.

How is it ignorant? Most of the people against it don't understand it. All I'm saying is wait for more details and information before saying it's a bad idea and Graal has gone to hell.

zell12 09-06-2003 01:50 AM

marcoR 09-06-2003 02:36 AM

it uses graal script so you can do fancy stuff with it further on down the road, I assume that's what they mean. (I only say assume because I'm not 110% sure.)

I think its in the new scripting language. Dont forget about that, so there is a chance that "sendtorc" wont be there. (but its vary slim, the command most likey would stay but the name could change :o)

marcoR 09-06-2003 03:28 AM

Adam, are you saying I'm wrong, if so, you could have just say "no" and explained how it works.

WarLord2004 09-06-2003 06:22 AM

Ok how about this...When you load your client and logg on. There would be a feature for external and built in rc. Like you click a options like *ignore mass* whoever wished to use graal with a rc client built in can and people who don't wish to...I mean i see where this is going adding all graal features to the main client. But still like someone stated new people who now started to play graal and wish to test scripts offline or build offline levels shoudl also have a options for *work offline* and *work online* mabey this can work.. But seriously adding a feature like this to graal would lagg, not everyone here has a perfect pc and if they do not everyone has a pefect connect. I use aol = lagg king soo means other great people who i seen work from graal must lagg badly cause of whats running in the background. The external client should be updated as well it seems un-fair you must be on player to logg on rc.... Atleast consider our ideas for updates on external rc. Cause frankly no one likes where this is going to end up i have asked many people and they don't like it. It would be cool to upload levels and see your work done right there and then but i can't handle that sort of lagg.
