Happy Bastille day to Unixmad
and any other French persons ... Renting a playerworld ... one thought crossed my mind, do the levels that we make and put on our rented server become the property of graal, cyberjourers, even though we are paying the money to have our playerworld online? just wondering Prozac (who just got createve with levelgen to outline 1,600 levels for Realms overworld ... level detailing people for the levels will be needed sorta soon) |

then it is not 'origionally' uploaded on any 1 server =x (not trying to be annoying, just trying to point out situations which might be questionable) |

For example: Someone makes a really good gun graphics for Era that gets really popular and is the most prized gun on Era. Then that person quits Era for some reason and wants the gun graphic to be removed. If this happened it should be entirely up to the manager of Era to do what s/he sees fit. If the manager does what the player asks s/he risks having a riot about people's guns not looking the same, but in turn makes the player who made the gun graphic happy. If the manager chooses to leave the gun graphic on the server then more than likely the player who made it will be mad. So, this is a controversal argument, even though it is mooted because of the GraalOnline TOC. |

What if playerworlds suck to hell and yet they're still paying? Will servers have lower expectations now? I'm pretty sure unixmad won't shut down a crappy server if he's getting alot of money off of it.
I still stand by my opinion, I don't like the idea. Renting a private server, I don't mind. But having to pay for it to go up just..isn't right. It DOES have it's good points, but..too many playerworlds will come out at once. Players WILL spread. Think of it this way, theres going to be like..30 playerworlds. Each of them have atleast 5 staff members. Do the math and thats how many players the other servers will be losing. |

I don't see how anyone thinks this could be a bad idea. So, far I have only seen one downside. That is, if you are manager of a server it doesn't mean as much as it use to. It used to mean you worked hard and went through the PWA to get up. Now it just means you have enough money to pay for a server. |

also, a lot of newbies will be going around to these servers, looking for a staff possition, so they look cool lol even the crappy servers will make people happy =P some people like empty servers... so they can play with just their friends, and not have to worry about others annoying them =) i think this is a good idea all around... i just wish it was a little more planned out before they even announced it.. (seems like they're doing things as they come up, which usually causes delays, because most things don't go as planned) Quote:
=x but i see all these other servers, which are just empty, going up before mine, and it's annoying -_- there should be at least a small overview of the world before a server goes up... but oh well, i guess in the long run these setbacks aren't that big of a deal |

Honestly, I think at least 75% of the new playerworlds will fail. Why? Because most of the people that are managing them are entirely new to managing a playerworld. To just be given the "power" and stuff, it's just going to overwhelm most people. I've already seen it happening, where playerworld managers are handing out RC access like candy, and just running around with their staff tags on.
I just have a feeling that most of these people are either: a) Not serious about making a playerworld that will actually hold a player's attention b) Just in it for the power and popularity Most playerworlds that actually finish will be amateur at best. I doubt all but a few will have enough quality content and quality staff members, to reach any kind of decent standard. I'm not saying ALL new playerworlds are going to suck, just most of them. I'm not trying to insinuate that Unixmad made a bad move with pw renting, I actually find it refreshing, and it was a good business move. So in other words, these pw managers will either be content with having a nice playerworld, or content with having power. |

I could care less what happens, I was just predicting the future of the new playerworlds. |
yep I hear you there:
look at what Sanstrata went through, those of you who were around when it was online last year. I confess to, back then, being a bit power hungry at times. Once, there were more than 30 rc's all in use, one rc per person. There is just no need for that many staff on a server to have rc access. Knowing how to deal with people - to never complain or critisize, and also to never give empty falttery, but look on the positive but honest side of things is a big part when dealing with many kinds of people. Also, telling hackers to stop hacking is not going to work, not in that way. A leader must offer them an alternative that looks to be, and is, more pleasing then their current actions, so that they will stop hacking and spend their time on what benefits you both. Owning a playerworld does have a learnign curve, I made my share of misatekes, so will you, in time. Its just a lot easaier to learn from the mistakes others have made and know what to do or not to do, than it is to make your own mistakes and suffer losses, learning the hard way. But the latter is what most folks end up doing. ok im rambling so il stop now |
Hey, it's July 21, are the old playerworlds going to be added to graal.net today still? :)
|
I wonder what is going to be in the phase 4 (if there is on).
And does the webhosting part of playerworld hosting work yet? You know like so you can host a website about the playerworld (They said there was webspace involved) |
