Roms are perfectly legal if you have bought the rights to play the game.

Yes, but that isn't always the case.

there's always a loop-hole in the system. you've just got to find it and exploit it first.

Then they do that privately, and not on here.

As I recal, I have never heard of a company getting in trouble for having mp3s on their computers, but I know of companys getting in big trouble for having illegal copies of software.

Blizzard actually got into trouble with Sony because of rampant mp3 piracy, if I remember :P

If it was discussion about the game...then it would be fine...but if it was asking for ROM locations...no!

Alright. This, sirs and madams, is simply *****ic.

I use Hyrule Magic to edit my LoZ3 rom, in which I give out to people to play with. That's not illegal. I own the game. It's an edited version and doesn't look anything like LTTP. You are saying I cannot give out my own games to people for free? Nintendo doesn't give a flying **** or they would have gotten jiggy with the people who made the program.

ROMs are the games themselves. There are free roms, just as there are free games. That's like saying anything about the Graal client is prohibited on the forums.

The Graalian forums have stooped down to a new low.

If I'm not mistaken, all you did to LTTP was a graphical hack :p It's still illegal because it contains the original code for the game...if you actually make the ROM (e.g. Homebrewn) then it would be fine to distribute it being that it's your own code. Nintendo probably does not overly concern themselves with graphical hacking tools like that unless they are used for illegal reasons...like editing a ROM and then using a tool to write it to a tangible cartridge and selling it as a new game...that would make them more than angry and it would have you in jail more than likely :)

Because we now have a rule stating you can't discuss warez/ROMs on this forum?

Metal-Slug 06-06-2002 05:20 AM

im gunna need an emulator...........................

( is being sarcastic because i saw them the days he made them, yay me )

Er1c 06-06-2002 05:28 AM

http://www.gbadev.org/ is a website that is all about GBA development. None of the ROMs on there were made by companies or copywrited, and the emulators on the site are freeware.

ROMs and emulation CAN be legal, but in most cases it is not. I think the rule should be revised to only stop talking about/posting links to/uploading files of copywritten ROMs/emulators instead of all ROMs/emulators because there are many cool ROMs that are perfectly legal to have, keep, and use.
