I just point the players in the general direction and let them go from there, if it's a normal problem of something they don't know about.
If it's a glitch or something isn't working the way it is, then I do my best to help fix it.

That's very kind of you to help with glitches, but why are you staff?!

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:35 PM

Fai is the one who taught me how to play Graal, I was such a major n00b back then, I couldn't even figure out how to drop a gelat(gralat now). But I've been playing along time now, and I've learned a lot by teaching myself things, rather than asking for help.

Edited: Fai is the one who showed me Graal, and helped me learn how to play. But only a couple of things.

Players also learn when they ask for help.

The tutorial teaches you how to play. I think I have disgruntled oldbie syndrome...

Any caring player can do that!

And there's not many of those.

SSmutz 05-12-2001 12:39 PM

THT, just because you've never asked FAQ for help doesn't mean it's not needed.

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:39 PM

And also, maybe people just hate this one "newbie" and don't want them to learn how to play, and he/she really wants to learn? Well, you can ask a helpful FAQ!

TUTORIAL

you should run it before you try graal online.

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:40 PM

Yes I suppose that is true THT, but it doesn't teach you everything, I will have you know.

Most poeple don't want to waist their time with it and just get online and play. 'Cause usually people find out about Graal from friends and want to get online as quickly as they can to meet their friends and then they learn to play while they're online.

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:42 PM

Eek, not a good thing when you're trying to talk to 3 people at once, and write in the forums!

05-12-2001 12:42 PM

It teaches you everything you need to know!
The rest can be learned from signs inside the game explaining NPCs!

I will go watch The Ladies Man now!

Too many exclamation points!

It doesn't teach you how to change your head, body, sword, shield, images. I never even seen anywhere that it tells you how to change those. And most bomy newbies don't knwo how to change thier image, because it doesn't tell you anywhere.

ALL YOU'LL EVER NEED TO KNOW!

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:47 PM

SSMutz, I suppose that is true, but if they really want to learn 'some things' they should take the decency and play the tutorial. Even though it doesn't teach your everything, and on some playerworlds, a browser will pop-up showing you commands.

I'd rather ask someone online, rather than open up a browser and search for it and most likely find that it's not there.

ALL YOU'LL EVER NEED TO KNOW
it's true.
Sorry, but FAQ is BAD

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:51 PM

Oh THT, I have a question, can you give people avatars?

That's an opinion. And it's not like you can just make FAQ go away.

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:55 PM

Better becareful of what you say SSMutz....it just might happen.

SSmutz 05-12-2001 12:57 PM

THT is just wasting his and our time. He can't make FAQ go away just by arguing about it.

activeconvict 05-12-2001 12:59 PM

THT probably has a lot of hook-ups, ya never know....
Personally I think TrueHeaT's a cool guy, he really knows how to debate with someone. =O

Yes, I'm sure everyone considers Stefan, as their "hook-up", or "inside friend".

activeconvict 05-12-2001 01:09 PM

He's not my hookup, I've been violated by him. =(

activeconvict 05-12-2001 01:23 PM

Have you decided on the new FAQ Asst. Chief?

Issues 05-12-2001 01:45 PM

I Agree

This is Blade, and i agree with TrueHeaT 100% FAQ's are not needed, Graal is an ADVENTURE game, you need to learn how to get stuff on your own instead of looking at the staff list, seeing a FAQ, which is used outside of graal so people know what it is, and asking them. 99.9% of the time when I ask a FAQ for something, they give me the excact location or the excact way to get something. Once again i agree with TrueHeaT that FAQ's are usless in an Adventure game. It takes the fun away.

Wow, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Graal is not an adventure game. Event's, PKing, and performing a job, such as fishing, mining, etc, is not adventure. Yes, there are two quests, but everyone seems to figure that out on thier own, but they do ask help on other problems.
And FAQ are not supposed to tell someone where something is exactly. We only point them in the general direction and let them figure it out from there. And if anyone is giving exact instructions (unless its a glitch or program problem), then they shouldn't be FAQ, imo.

Graal has lost it's Adventure elements because of too many staff members. What fun is it when the FUN in a game is created by *****ic Events Team members, and the things you are supposed to figure out are told to you by FAQs. FAQs shouldn't help people with quests or show them how to mine or farm or stuff... They should answer questions about problems in the game or changes in upcoming versions or stuffs like that.

fugitive316 05-12-2001 11:17 PM

I like FAQ.

When people have a question, instead of PMing a Police or some admin thats away, the person can PM a FAQ member.

I don't think FAQ should have any special powers.

Also, if a person is willing to devote hours on hours of just sitting on graal and answering questions, then that person is doing something to help graal out.

Helping graal out...something that alot of people who are complaining about FAQ don't do (no I don't mean anyone in particular).

I already said that we don't help with quests. And I don't see what's so special about learning how to farm on your own if you're going to every single day.

Yes, that's a good way to put it.
Also, the only "special power" we have is that we can appear in the staff list. Not even the Chief gets RC or warpto, but I don't need it.

JungleKid 05-12-2001 11:23 PM

FAQs aren't needed whatsoever. Graal 2001 was designed for the sole purpose of being able to explore it yourself. You are SUPPOSED to figure stuff out on your own. I can kind of agree with the mining/fishing help, but for that kind of help, they can just ask another player to help them out, can't they? And if FAQ is going to be hanging around, why do they need to be on the staff list? Only RCs, Police, and Admins should be on the staff list. Why should useless things like PW Projects Team, Events Team, and FAQ be on it? There is no purpose for any of them.

DUH! There IS nothing to ask about except fishing and mining. And NO player wants to be bugged about that for hours on end. That's what FAQ is for.

I don't see appearing on the list, as a special power. If you weren't on the staff list, I'm sure FAQ wouldn't be as effective.

I think you do get mass messages, but I don't recall a FAQ ever abusing it *cough* ET *cough*.

Warpto? [sarcasm]Even the police don't get that[/sarcasm]

Fai 05-12-2001 11:28 PM

Police SHOULD get warpto, but they should only hire TRUSTABLE Police.

SSmutz 05-12-2001 11:28 PM

Have you (anyone) ever been GP on a large server?
I was a GP on NPulse (when it had around 125 players online), and I was always loaded with questions, most of which had nothing to do with jailing or hackers. But when Geo started hiring FAQ, most of those questions were directed away from me and the other GPs and gave us more time to tend to hackers, and jailed players, etc.
