I don't see why you couldn't make several player / NPC hosted events south of the bridge (small little things, like bomber arena by the wedding chapel, or small races around the southern parts of the GMAP).

I would also see no harm in removing the GC studios and just using a GUI interface for warping to events. You could use the old lounge as the event hub and give the GCs a slick interface that would allow them to setup events from there. Players would get warped back to Sister Gertrude's after an event is completed.

I would restore Swamp Town and Babord to give the players a little more to explore.

Again, small stuff, but it solves these issues Thor deemed massive hurdles. If you want large picture post the quests and rewards currently on Classic, and I could go into quest expansion.

I had also recommended adding more quest's south of the bridge too. The point is, removal of OBS was pretty much offered based on map restrictions? But I was also told it wasn't an offer it would be forced? Either way, sounds like the jackpot you guys were waiting for removal of OBS mode. Because you could have (and had plenty of open area) added more content south.. I really recommended adding mining but since Classic never was a "grind" server.. Or economy based. Which is fine, but the mines, were south of the bridge too :(.. I used to love doing that on N-Pulse.. on GK alone I spent 2 weeks solid in the mines to win a prize, and it was a proud moment. A server should feel people with happy, proud, memories that they can take on with them in life. =/

maximus_asinus 04-15-2013 05:15 AM

Exactly. The south could have been opened up a bit more to include a few quests, small events, possibly a spar arena. A summon /warp system would also allow trials to participate in events as well. You would have a small slice of Graal pre P2P, but you **** it all away.

The_Messenger 04-15-2013 06:43 AM

It should be noted that this whole "suggestion" was infact nothing more than a one-off 'maybe' backed up by no actual thought or details, from someone who had never actually logged onto the server and seen any of the work. It made complete sense to try and persist proposing the original set of plans, as these actually had thought put behind them from the makers of the server, wouldn't have set us back a large deal of time, and were similar to what Era and Zodiac had already successfully implemented.

It was never anything near a concrete offer or something we'd been given any type of guarantee for removing observer mode, Stefan never actually rejected our plans but kept claiming he hadn't read them yet. Claiming that we rejected a concrete offer to remove observer mode is heavily over-scrutinising.

Maybe I am missing something but doesn't discontinuing it and having someone else take over also set you back a large deal of time. What did arguing with stefan actually gain you? He obviously was interested in giving you 1 of your demands, but you wanted to change all of his.. that's not fair. I would have been a every day player literally as I do with GK and the thousands of hours I have logged, but I did everything there was to do on the server. Questing is my heart and soul. When I started playing graal I played N-Pulse.. for the quests. since I had a friend IRL who showed me some of them. Granted the lack of direction made it quite difficult. You have to admit that the quality of Classic was second to none. The problem was that the second you start shouting your not gonna continue yes your gonna scare people off.. At launch you had 100+ people (thats better then Zone iPhone). Players even stayed on long enough to do ALL of the quests again. I was impressed how fast some of them did it. But once everyone that was all hyped up for the server did all the quests the only update we received, was TCG.. we didn't logon to play TCG.. we logged on for the questing.. thats why we did them immediately when we logged on. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened had another quest been added. But since it never happened we will never know. And the sad part is the staff there kept saying there no point, nothing in it for them. And I offered to pay them (up front) to continue to work on the server.. not for my own personal enjoyment, but for the enjoyment of all of us who pay for graal monthly. You guys didn't even give classic a fair, or proper chance.

Look, I know I have come across as an ass in the past. And I am sorry for that, but when your told that graal does not deserve a server of such quality, makes no sense. Who is graal? What is graal? I say its a community of players, a community of developers. Or simply put its a blackbox with a scripting language. But put that all aside, we the players... who paid... do deserve quality content.

Who should take over as Classic's manager?

xAndrewx 04-15-2013 09:05 PM

I'll be honest - no one could replace Thor. It's a shame he's let everybody down.

Scriptless is right though, what did he gain from this? A forum ban lolol

I don't think that any 1 person is qualified to make this decision. Maybe turn the the community for that one.

Thor did a great job. He had a great team. He had a great vision for the server, and I don't know if thats something you can easily replace.

The last active community of Classic spoke (The staff) and they decided it was in best interest to not continue development.

I don't mean staff, I mean players. Just because this group of staff lost hope doesn't mean everyone (players) have.

I shall take the reins!

I think that was his point. The only active members of the Classic community were former and current staff members.

Well, wether we were logged on the server or posted on the forums only. The active community is still here. We just stopped logging on after the promise that no further updates would be presented. We did all the quests, collected the TCG and the only thing left for us to do was events. Looking at the amount of people posting in these forums, to me at least, I see hope in the server still.

Now, I am not saying that current restrictions are not hurting the server because they are, and should be changed.

Look, if Thor and his team don't want to work on the server and think it's a waste of there time then cool, more power to them. But why is it such a bad thing to let someone else who doesn't think it's a waste take over and waste there time? It's there life, and there choice. We shouldn't be fighting because of it, where is it getting us?

Zodiac's playerbase doesn't play classic. They play RPG. You're not getting them.
Era's playerbase doesn't play classic. They play modern/shooters. You're not getting them either.

The only playerbase you have any hopes of commanding is UN's, and that's not going to get either server anywhere. By having two classic servers, you're effectively slicing the already tiny classic playerbase in half and splitting it between servers. That leaves you with what? 10? 15 players each? What's the point?

We saw this with Babylon, and that's why we stopped trying. Maybe if Graal had a sudden surge of popularity again, this could actually be worthwhile. But right now it's not. Graal won't attract a single new player until Stefan removes the asinine monthly cost of playing an already dead PC game.

There is very little reason for anybody to have any hope or motivation in continuing classic. Even if someone does want to "take over the helm," I really doubt a cohesive staff team could be put together that would do what Thor's team couldn't. Should just let what's dead, die. It's a shame, and I'd rather have Classic in UN's place any day of the week, but this is how things rolled out.

What'd I miss?

Remonq 04-25-2013 12:36 AM

If all these people had really wanted to help the server they would have been part of Thor's staff team. What it really boils down to is people just want the power to do what they want to a dead server. As far as I'm concerned there are a handfull of active Classic staff members, and as such nothing will be done to the server without our consent.

Would have helped but I was blacklisted (rightfully so), and I wouldn't have the time to work on the server now anyways. Actually, for the exception of scriptless, I don't think anyone has actively compaigned for control of the server.

That being said, you and your staff team must be pretty naive to think you have any creative control over the server. If Stefan were to say tomorrow that he was taking over Classic or putting someone in control, I doubt he would even consult the staff members who abandoned the project.

Ziplock for manager 2013.

maximus_asinus 04-25-2013 07:41 AM

Okay two people

Kamaeru 04-25-2013 04:10 PM

The vast majority of the new ideas implemented on Classic regarding Questing, content density, content quality, single player experience, etc. by Thor were actually given to him by me. I hung around there at first as a Developer and at other times as a lobbyist attempting to help Graal for a better future, as I saw Classic as the only remaining hope. I am really really proud that Thor took my advice, and I do not claim to have done any of that work.

At the time when I was a developer for the server, there were no resources for developing Dungeons (no keys for doors, scarcely any quest-related classes) and I begged for years to get these scripted so I could develop the server the way it was originally intended. I got frustrated enough to give up and get a real life, but years later I did play through what that team had accomplished, and was very pleased.

Remonq 04-25-2013 07:19 PM

And we thank you for your help Kamaeru. The thing about Classic is that it was headed by Thor, but it was accomplished with multiple minor contributions from various developers. Some would be called in for one project and then do nothing else for the server again. Others were resident scripters, gani artists, and levellers. For the most part

Thor is still Manager of the server. If Stefan wants to replace him that's on him but there is no real point seeing as how the server is dead in the water. If Stefan thinks he can bring back Classic then I will cooperate with him, if he is willing to cooperate with what is left of the server's community.

Minoc 04-25-2013 07:29 PM

Racil is probably the most fitting person to continue Thor's revision of the server.

You don't understand. Thor quit. You quit. The entire staff team quit. Just because you hold onto the position does not give you real power. If there is interest in Classic in the future, Stefan will be looking for people willing to work for him, not the other way around. You guys are gone, you just don't know it yet.

Upload the pre-wipe classic.

Shaun 06-29-2013 05:26 PM

15 years later, I'm still here and Classic isn't. A bunch of us were kids when we were on classic, and now we're all old with businesses and families.
