My 70ms latency is currently above 1300ms. I'm not sure if it's coincidental or the new client.

Admins 10-03-2010 03:36 PM

I have no idea why it would freeze on certain computers, is this only working on Windows? 32 bit or 64 bit? Checked if sound is enabled or disabled? If possible attach your game_console.log to your post.
If possible also try to run the game with "-opengl" as option to see if it's the graphics which make the problems.

Crono 10-03-2010 04:41 PM

Not a problem on Windows 7 64bit.

Security Concern: There still isn't a prompt for OpenURL, reported this ages ago.

If I understand your request correctly then I disagree. A prompt places responsibility on the user. Graal Online (and in extension, the server) should be held responsible. Administrative routine should moderate openURLs; either through punishing unreported openURLs in scripts or strict access restrictions.

You can upload your own TrueType fonts and use them in v6.

In addition, you can click the blue arrow in a quote to be taken directly to the post.

At the least v6 should be configured to run XP at the least because lets face it, Vista was poorly developed and is a bigger problem then its worth and 7 is too expensive for some people to afford.

No one is forcing you to upgrade. Graal runs fine on it, the only bug is that the Graal client stops updating when you drag a window over it—this happens on win7 too. The only difference is that on win7 it doesn't show the various drag frames.

This may not be a bug, but I found out that emitters are not acting the same on V6 than in V5. For example, I've made myself turn into a fireball on Ruins when using boots, and when I was switching levels, the fireball was getting smaller and smaller, with shorter effects and particles.
In V6, it seems to act completely the opposite way, which means on a gmap, as I run through levels, the fireball keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Also, right after I switch levels, particles are "lagging", which means the little flames that are supposed to come directly out of the fireball appear on my screen about a second later.

Sounds like you need to stop the emitter or clear the mods when entering the level as you're re-applying the emitter mods?

That's a pretty severe bug on xp user's ends. Especially with how frequently lots of players move PMs around and what not.

I agree that it should be fixed and not just ignored but Stefan definitely isn't "forcing [the players] to upgrade to Windows Vista+".

The damage is done far before it will even get reported, a whole server could be repeatedly goatsed (or other shock-site/exploit) hours before anyone can do anything about it.

This can also be easily exploited to open hundreds of browser tabs, etc.

PHP Code:

//#CLIENTSIDE
function onCreated() {

setTimer(0.05);
}

function
onTimeout() {

openurl("http://www.google.com");

setTimer(0.05);

I cannot agree. Tricking a user and forcing a user into visiting a shock site (or other illicit material) have the same result - the user is exposed to undesirable content. The only way to prevent that entirely is through strict administrative procedure. We can all agree that the users hold no responsibility if they are exposed to undesirable content via game client... that in itself is a strong argument against a openURL prompt. Perhaps Graal Online needs a better system report and respond to abuse?

In the mean time it may be a good idea to filter openURL requests from the client.

ffcmike 10-03-2010 07:25 PM

I've now noticed that going from one level to another but then staying still causes a line of the previous level to be drawn over the current one, I think this depends on the differences between the new and old position of the player somewhat as it occurs every time in some places and others not at all, it can also be done with or without being on a gmap:

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/3610/levelbug.th.gif

Regarding the playerlist alot of things seem really inconsistent, when you receive a PM you should be able to click the Icon at the top that has been changed into a PM bubble in order to open it, but this now doesn't seem to work half the time, mouse-over hint text also seems to display the wrong thing until you click somewhere on the playerlist.

It's also annoying that you now have to maximise both the client window and the playerlist window separately, they used to be in sync with eachother.

Can you give me servername/levelname/position where I can test it? Is this only happening when entering buildings, eventually the server uses some transparent tiles? There was a blackness-transparency problem in some earlier v6 beta version but should work fine now, but I can check it if you give me the location where it's happening often.

I noticed it the very first time I entered a building (the Bank) from level 14/classic_overworld_graalcity_04.nw on Classic, and was able to repeat this by then going from the main bank level to the room on the right hand side, doing the opposite made a vertical streak as opposed to a horizontal one, although this didn't occur when exiting back onto the gmap.

Having tried further it seems to be happening when entering pretty much every level where there is a black background, but we do not use transparent tiles or layers on Classic, it also seems that moving doesn't make it instantly disappear but actually shifts its position.

Thor, your error sound very similar to this.

That is certainly nothing new, can be caused purely by a combination of quickly entering, exiting and re-entering a level and lag, the level links being that way makes it easier, I wasn't experiencing issues with my client level not being the same as my serverside level, just zoomed tiles from the previous level being drawn in lines above my current level, everything else is fine.

maximus_asinus 10-03-2010 08:28 PM

I cannot close the playerlist if my window is maximized, the options to close/minimize/etc do not show up when I focus on the playerlist.

I can't duplicate the error you're getting Thor, are you doing something special other than entering/exiting a level?

Nope, I was also getting a similar error with say2 messages:

Just tried Graal with OpenGL however and these problems are fixed.

It had a prompt in the V5 Client now it doesn't, you know what works good for a openurl filter, a "do you want to open 'URL' prompt" that's all that has to be done and we don't need to get admins involved with URL approval like we do on these forums.

Okay whatever point you're trying to make, I don't really care.

In it's current state OpenURL can be abused and V5 prevented this with an "Open 'http://example.org' OK Cancel" this is obviously something Stefan had to cut out from his builds due to the External Windows / Scripted Version of certain systems (Options, etc) and other refactoring. It needs to be re-added that's it.

spydrct02 10-03-2010 09:55 PM

I did a quick test in 997mhz again in opengl mode and the result was it's slightly faster than regular mode on v6; 17fps vs 14fps, but the skipping still happens every second. By "skipping" I mean it freezes for a short time then unfreezes. Like this:
------skip---------skip----------skip-------

And for system info, I have:
Windows XP Professional SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 1.83ghz
Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family
SoundMAX Integrated HD audio

Soala 10-03-2010 10:12 PM

Had to switch back to V5 today, I got disconnected about 10 times in less than an hour x_x

ffcmike 10-03-2010 11:14 PM

It was mentioned that this.chat was automatically hiding after 3 seconds, it also seems that once it gets hidden like this it will not display the next time this.chat is set.

Without using opengl it seems as if all emitters are displaying the equivalent of 2 or 3 tiles higher than they should be.

I was testing a few things on a trial and noticed another level display issue as a result of entering Observer Mode and the screen focussing on a player several levels away:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7231/ombug.th.gif

The black square was much bigger than this and had correctly animated flower tiles within it originally but I couldn't screenshot it quick enough, it was without opengl again however.

Hmmm If it's freezing each 3 seconds then it might be the FILENAMECACHE.txt. If you have installed Graal on an external or very slow hard drive then saving the file name cache can slow down the game. Can you try to open game_config.txt and change this value: cachefilenames=false (or open the old Graal and disable file name cache in the options)? We could add an option for that in the new scripted option window, currently it only shows options needed for the Linux version.

We can also add an option to change the default font.

I was getting this same skipping issue with opengl but not without it, filenamecache was however never an issue with v5.

DustyPorViva 10-04-2010 02:26 AM

I've had the skipping problem since I downloaded v6, but it's VERY minor, but annoying. FPS checks can't even notice it because it's so quick, and I have a decent HDD.

Sky 10-04-2010 04:23 AM

Kind of a weird bug but this is the best I can describe it and replicate it:

On GK, when I hold out my shield with the D button, you hold D press ctrl, let go of D then let go of ctrl and your shield will be held out until you either press D again or sometimes it just stops itself. I hope I explained this good enough. :P

MrOmega 10-04-2010 05:40 AM

Using openGL seemed to fix my client freezing when connecting to other servers some how.

Confirmed. Also seems that previously barely visible smoke emitters now have turned pitch black. Same thing happening in OpenGL, but even the fire itself changed behavior there and more or less completely vanished.

It would also be nice with an option to mute/un-mute all sound at once with just one button. Un-muting would restore the bars to the positions they were at before muting.

i'd like to say that, openURL is very annoying without a promt, as on GK, when you spar, there is a "scroll" on the ground that uses openURL, next to the door, that you hit frequently when you get killed because of the pushback when damaged.

The skipping happens every 1 second... it even syncs with my clock ticking. It isn't hard drive usage causing it, it's CPU usage spikes every second it seems. Anyway, I tried the filenamecache to false and it still skips.

Pressing any key also doubles the CPU usage graal uses for me until I let go of it, including movement. This is me on v6 with only me in a level:
slowwwwww*SKIP*slowwwwww*SKIP*slowwwwww*SKIP*sloww www

I'm so tempted to make a video of it, should I?

Sky 10-04-2010 10:29 PM

If you have something highlighted in the F2 menu and you try to get something to add to it, it won't unless you unhighlight whatever you had highlighted. o-o hopefully I explained this right. :P

There are a few things which are done one time each second, e.g. removing unused textures from memory and similar things. May be I can make a special verison which is logging how much time those things take.

Ok, I'll test it if you make it. But what about the overall slowness? It's both slow and skips for me. Is it maybe just like this for Windows XP? Some other people say it's faster for them, but I think they have Vista or 7.

Admins 10-05-2010 04:07 PM
