Part 1:

I think it's about time somebody gave an insight into what has been going on with Classic lately, the server has to some extent though not completely continued to stagnate in the absense of a Dev admin since HRs quitting, and a not completely active Manager, but not everyone has give up yet.

Most people should know Storms first action was naming Ibonic as co manager, he did put alot of work into Classic during his time as Co manager aswell as for a while before recieving that position officially, but the problem was he did not have his priorities right, his biggest project was his spar,
he made some invisible changes to the systems behind the scenes but never attempted to rebuild the Dev team that had been left in ruins, the one thing released during his time was something i had pushed for and worked on, the tutorial, which consists of Tule Village, Storms own tutorial gmap from 2005 which acts similarly to Tyhms inn, and then a few totally new cave levels where the player recieves the warp ring rather than stumbling across it totally randomly in Zols toilet.

Still not entirely sure why Ibonic quit, i just can't see why somebody could get so upset over less than a handful of people criticising his spar, as far as the tutorial gos it was far too hard to get through at first, has since been made much simpler and will probably be made possible for new players to walk right through like returning oldbies currently can in future.

After a couple months of stagnation and a manager aparently visiting Japan, Bell finally decided to sort out the mess and attempted to rebuild the Dev team, Storm had said he would not stand in her way, she did a good job with it imo, was and still is busy with alot of stuff around the whole of Graal, the amount of work she does is incredible, not only were the numbers good enough for Development to occur but the organisation and communication between Development had improved, there was at first alot of momentum and it seemed hope had been put into the players.

On one side of things we had people pushing for 'rapid release', and on the other was for more long term, planned, storyline type content,
alot of these changes were only very small changes, such as original tiles being brought back, midis restored and with the option to turn off, jet skis etc.

It wasn't long before DC and Kevin released a remade rat form 'quest', but it was a disappointment, contained no baddies, and as far as the rat boss gos it did not damage me one time.
(maybe you could edit that to how you like)

From that point onwards the momentum has been lost, there isn't a drive to release things, players don't expect it to happen, several members of the Dev team have disappeared, but that does not mean nothing has been done, quite alot has been done despite it, and would probably be released real soon if we still had our former momentum.

So what has been done exactly?
BADDIES + baddy respawn system + onBaddieskilled Door opening.
I had started on them right from the beggining, progressed quickly with them but for a long time was ironing out small bugs and was trying to be careful to keep lag at a minimum as they are serverside, they worked well enough by the time Rat form was released but there was no respawn system for them.

Sardons Tower 'Quest', with the exception of the boss (which will be totally new) this is complete, baddies are implemented, mini baddies and other scripts like projectile shooters are completed, a new puzzle was implemented into the prize room, alot of you might strongly disagree with the prize being the Knife of Fiends, but we want to scrap the joke of a quest known as the black gelat, and we have it explained well enough within the storyline, it Knife was forged by the gnome Adroit, it caused an accident with Sardon and therefore Adroit was imprisoned, another prisoner is the women who gives you magic, you use the knife against Sardon and when the you complete the tower you go straight to the Gnome Caves as you have to escort Adroit back (who hammers stakes out of the way for you).

Hope classic can be brought up again.
I think the best they could do is adding very classic quests.. smashing baddies, solving some riddles.

I think the olde times was the best proof that people are still interested in that kind of gameplay and want something original rather than everything orientating to 2001 or gk (as in playerworlds using mudlibs).

Nevertheless, good luck bringing it up again!

So we're basically told of a new quest on the way.

I wish something new and repetitively fun would be released. But props to the dev team i guess. Alot of this stuff isnt even storms ideas which is funny.

One can hope...
Ultimately I wonder how much of Classic's staying power was its official status...it's been going downhill ever since it lost its "This is the Original Official Main Server" hat.

For which I blame Antago. :-D
